Term 2 - Week 8 (28th May, 2026)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Focus Value: : Forgiveness

We accept apologies and give others the opportunity to do the right thing and to have another chance.

Year Two/Three Senior Centre Visit

Yesterday the Year Two/Three class visited the Senior Centre. This kind of outreach is incredibly valuable for both the children and our Seniors. The conversations that were happening between both groups was wonderful to see.

Feast Of Sacred Heart Mass

Well done to Miss Sutherland Scott and the Year 4/5 class on a well prepared Mass this morning. It was also great to see lots of parents attend as well.

Cross Country

Best of luck to the Interschool Cross Country team who headed off to Bruce Rock this morning. I’m certain they’ll return happy but a little bit muddy!

Confirmation Mass

Don’t forget, everyone is welcome to attend our Confirmation Mass on Sunday at 10.30am.

Therapy Pony Incursion & Footy Clinic

The students have some exciting activities on next week.

On Wednesday Leesa Murray will be bringing her Therapy Ponies, Legend and Cowboy, for class sessions with the children. The sessions will support conversations around emotional wellbeing, self-regulation, kindness, connection, and looking after our mental health in a way that is engaging, developmentally appropriate, and fun for students. Students will need to wear enclosed shoes for these sessions.

On Thursday, the Pre-Primary - Year Six students will be participating in  Footy Clinic sessions during their sports periods. If children would like to wear football boots for the footy clinic they can bring them along.

Family Friday

Next Friday is Family Friday, put it in your diary. We welcome all family members into school to spend time looking at your child’s work.

P&F

Our amazing P&F committee met on Monday night. The work our parents do in this group is amazing. We thank them for their latest support in purchasing a TV for the Science room.

Special Events

Life Link Day

The LifeLink Day Schools Initiative was established in 1999 to encourage a “practical demonstration of Faith” by asking students, teachers and schools to organise a special fundraising event for LifeLink Day, with the proceeds aiding people in real need within the community. At St Mary's we held our annual Life Link Fundraiser, which was our Pajama Day Dress Up Day. We are pleased to announce we raised $204 dollars!! Well done on another successful Life Link fundraiser!

Interschool Cross Country

Today eighteen students travelled to Bruce Rock to proudly represent St Mary's at the Interschool Cross Country. Despite the cold conditions, spirits were high and all students demonstrated outstanding determination, sportsmanship and resilience throughout the day.

St Mary's achieved an excellent result, finishing a very close 2nd overall out of 8 schools on 82 points, just 7 points behind the winning school. This was a fantastic team effort, with every student contributing valuable points and representing the school with pride.

There were many outstanding individual performances, with a large number of students finishing in the top 10 of their respective age groups. Special congratulations go to:

  • Jack Gray – 1st Place, 8 & Under Boys
  • Maggie Gray – 2nd Place, 10 & Under Girls
  • Zeke Goosen – 1st Place, 10 & Under Boys
  • Mitchell Mills – 4th Place, 10 & Under Boys
  • Ava Webb – 1st Place, 11 & Under Girls
  • Tahlia Govender – 2nd Place, 11 & Under Girls

Congratulations to all students who competed. Your effort, commitment and positive attitude made St Mary's proud, and this excellent result is a reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by all competitors.

Class News

Design & Technology

We are extremely busy in Technologies this term. All students are focusing on Design and Technology. Working in pairs, each class has been given a project to complete by the end of the term. Students are working through the design process including research, design, production, modification and evaluation. This week most students are finishing off the production phase and are starting to test and modify their creations.

Below are some examples;

Students are making a chosen Paper Roll Animal. Each animal must have some identifying features such as a tail, mane, legs etc.

Year 1/2

Students are making a rocket that must meet design criteria including 4 rocket features (nose cone, body tube, fins and window) and must stand alone.

Year 2/3

Students are making a rocket that must meet the design criteria of including 4 rocket features (nose cone, body tube, fins and window), must stand alone and be within a height restriction.

Year 4/5

Students are making a marble run that must stand on its own, include a ‘bridge’ and a ‘tunnel’ in their design.

Year 6

Students are making a marble run that must stand on its own, include 3 changes of direction, lasts at least 10 seconds, and has a receptable at the end.

Thank you to those families that donated construction materials.

Beanstalk at Cummins Theatre Sunday 5 July

Everyone knows Jack’s story, but what about the giant’s? Do we really know what happened that day when Jack unexpectedly barged into the giant’s kitchen? Was it the grim fee-fi-fo-fum bone-crunching tale we’ve all grown up with, or is there a different story waiting to be told?

Beanstalk is the hilarious retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk told from the giant’s point of view. Step into Brian’s cloud-making kitchen where he cooks up carrots, fluffy clouds and a few stories from his not-so-easy life as a giant.

Funny, unapologetically playful and utterly charming, Beanstalk will have you laughing at the antics of a loaf of bread (Jack), reeling in horror at the squishing of a tomato (a villager), and marvelling at the clever trickery that brings the magic of cloud creation to life.

Bookings can be made in person at the Visitor Centre or online through bit.ly/CTBeanstalk

Win Big. Give Back. Help Build Westonia’s Playground.

Westonia is a small town based in the heart of the wheatbelt, built on mining, young and old farming families and people from all walks of life. This little country town is full of community spirit. In recent years, we have seen a big growth in young children and babies in our shire. Whether they've grown up here or are new to our town, we want to do our best to support them. One way we can do that is by providing a safe area for them to come together with friends and family to play, grow and learn.

We’re holding this fundraiser to help raise funds and support our vision of a brand-new playground that will help our children thrive. For just $100 you could be in the chance to win a brand new 2026 Hilux SR as first prize and a brand new 2026 Polaris Ranger 1000 Premium as second prize.
