Explanation of Absence

A friendly reminder to all parents and carers that when your child is away from school you are required under the Education Act to provide an explanation for the absence.

The prefered method of explaining an absence is to respond to the SMS that is automatically sent at 10:00 am for all unexplained whole day absences or late arrivals.

  • It is important that you reply to that absence, for that child, that day.
  • If you use this message the following day it does not link up to your student accuratley and may be missed.
  • Alternativley, you can use the ‘Absentee Form’ listed within the Resources section of the Audiri app.
  • We would prefer that an email or phone call to the school is the least used option to explain absences.

More often than not, an absence is due to illness but can also sometimes relate to family events or emergencies, religious events or unforeseen circumstances. Either way, please endeavour to provide explanations for all instances when your child is absent.

In the event your child is absent for 3 consecutive days and the school has not received an explanation, your child's classroom teacher or Assistant Principal is required to contact you for an explanation of your child's absence. Your assistance is replying to the SMS message the same day would save a great deal of time and work for our classroom teachers.

Late Arrivals - School hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. If students arrive later than 9:00am, they need to present to the office to receive a late slip which is to be given to their class teacher.

The importance of arriving on time:

  • Ensures that students do not miss out important learning activities scheduled early in the day
  • Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
  • Gives students time to greet their friends before classtime
  • Reduces classroom disruption.

Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents

Early Leavers - On occasions where children need to leave early for the day, parents are asked to avoid break times where possible as it can be difficult to locate students in the playground.

Recess -   11:00 am - 11:25 am  and    Lunch 1:10 pm - 2:00 pm

Students also change classrooms during the day for SRE/Ethics, Spelling Mastery, PE and Library so letting us know in advance that your child is leaving early may save you some time when you arrive (especially when multiple siblings are leaving together).

Please come to the school office and staff will phone your child's classroom and have your them come to the office to meet you when you arrive.

Scholastic Book Club

Thank you for your continued support of Book Club.

  • Points earned from your orders are used to help resource our library.
  • New catalogues were handed out last week.
  • Please place your orders through LOOP by Friday 14th June.
  • No orders will be taken after that date

Free home internet offer still open for eligible families

It’s not too late for eligible families to apply for free home internet through the School Student Broadband Initiative.
