A message from Julie

Dear Parents and Families,

Tonight we have our celebration of Confirmation and we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our candidates, their parents and teachers for their excellent preparation.  We would also like to express our gratitude to Fr. Gerard for his support and assistance to the children and staff. A special mention to Fr Tony Kerin for celebrating this sacrament with us.  We also need to thank Nina Grieve and the year 5/6 teachers for their diligence and great organisation.

Congratulations to the following Mum's who won the Mother’s Day raffle.  Enjoy your prizes!  A very big thank you to our wonderful Parents and Friends Association who organised this.

1st Prize- Shelley (Jacob in year 3/4)

2nd Prize- Jersy (Janessa in 3/4)

3rd Prize- Amelia (Samantha in Prep)

It was also wonderful to see the many mum's who came along to our Mother’s Day breakfast and shared some time with their children and caught up with other mum's.  Many thanks to Andrew Luke from Jellis Craig for his generous sponsorship of coffee vouchers for our special women present, from Miss Peppercorn.  We apparently broke their coffee machine with the amount of coffee served on Monday!

Last Friday a selection of students from years 4-6 participated in District Cross Country. The students had a wonderful time and showed such great persistence.  Five of our students will go onto the next stage and we wish them all the very best.  Hope the weather is kind! Thank you to Miceala Debney for her support and organisation.

Just a reminder to keep your children home if they are ill.  You can record your child’s absence via Audiri (formerly known as Skoolbag app).

Look after yourselves and have a lovely weekend.

School Camp Update

Year 5/6

This week Senior parents received a letter and detailed permission form regarding the YMCA Camp Wyuna (Queenscliff) experience from Monday 10th July to Wednesday 12th July, 2023.  We hope to see many families at our Camp Information Meeting on Friday 9th June at 9.15am

Year 3/4

We ask all families to please ‘Save The Date’ for our Middles overnight camp from Monday 7th August to Tuesday 8th August, 2023.  This will be during the middle of Term 3.  Further information will be provided to families.

Skoolbag has a new name and logo!

SkoolBag has moved to a new name and new brand - Audiri.  The app is free and is a convenient way to stay up-to-date with newsletters and school communication and completing absentee forms.

The brand/logo change should update automatically on both phone platforms and tablets.

If you have not yet downloaded this app, then this is your opportunity to do so in 4 easy steps.

1.Open the Apple App or Google Play Store, search for Audiri and install the app.

2.  Create an account and follow the prompts.  A confirmation email will be sent for you to confirm your account.

3.  Open the app and click Add/Remove, enter St Luke the Evangelist and select our school.

4.  Tap the + icon to add our school.  Now you can see our school under My Schools and Services.

Sports News

Well done to all Year 4, 5 and 6 students who competed at the District Cross Country Championships at Jells Park last Friday 12th May - you did us proud!  A big thank you to our parent helpers; Charlene, Mandy, Lilli and Briana for volunteering your time as checkpoint marshalls around the course.  And a special shout out to Ethan K, Thomas K, Emily D, Olivia D and Lachie S for finishing in the Top 20 runners in their age group!  These five students will progress through to the Monash Waverley Division Cross Country event on Wednesday 31st May.  A fantastic personal achievement!

Good luck to ALL our Year 5 and 6’s who head off for a massive day of sport at the upcoming Syndal District Winter Round Robin on Friday 2nd June.  Students choose to play either AFL, Soccer Rounders or Netball, and will compete against other schools in our local area.  This one is always a highlight on the Senior sporting calendar!  Have fun everyone!

Aurora School Visit

This year our Grade Five students are participating in an exciting initiative between St Luke's and Aurora School in Blackburn South.  Aurora offers support to deaf and hard of hearing children, and deaf/blind children, in their Early Education Program and inclusive Community kindergarten, which integrates hearing children from the local community.  Some aims of this program for our students are to develop leadership skills and a greater awareness of diversity and ways of inclusion, as well as making connections in our local community.

Staff from Aurora came to visit us and run a deaf awareness session with our students prior to our first visit, and so far we’ve visited our buddies at Aurora on two occasions. The children have naturally buddied up and interacted easily and happily during both visits.  None of us have wanted to leave and we are really excited for our next visit on June 5th.

Family-School-Community Partnerships

Some of our Year Fives share their experiences of our visits to Aurora:

At Aurora, Emily and I met the preps and took care of them for the hour we were there! We took care of one particular student called Nora, by helping with her subjects like art and play! We had a blasting time playing and learning sign language with our new buddy, Nora. We both found their school very interesting. We can’t wait to go back there!!

Emily and Grace ♥️

All the Year 5 students walked to Aurora School, to become buddies with the preps, who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Our buddy, Eshaan, was very quiet but loved copying the actions we were doing which was very wholesome. Before playing games we all huddled on the floor to read a story for Harmony Day about how even though everyone is different and might be from different places, we can still come together to have fun! Afterwards, we went outside and  played on the tyre swing and drums. We also ran around with Eshaan and made little paper people. It was so much fun to play and interact with the preps and we definitely would love another opportunity to meet the kids again and to see the big smiles on their faces another time.

April & Camilla ♥️

Going to the Aurora foundation is the best news we have heard yet. This is where the year 5’s got to interact with younger children who were deaf. Doing activities anyone could do felt more special when it was with children who communicate through sign. Some of the activities provided to do were craft, reading, play and much much more. Having the privilege to do things with deaf children is a pleasure, and heart-warmer. Everyone had a blast, and can’t wait to come again. For a ball of laughter and fun for everyone, who participates in this. It was a memorable time for everyone.

Ella ♥️

MACS DIgital Ambition Consultation

If you are a parent of children in a Catholic primary or secondary school in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, you are invited to share your voice to contribute to the Digital Ambition Plan for Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS).  Your views are critical to ensure that technology reflects the needs of students and school communities into the future.

Technology is changing at a rapid pace and the plan needs to reflect the changes as well as stay true to the direction of Catholic education.

Please see the following flyer invitation to have your say either via a survey or to attend an online forum on Monday 22nd May at 7PM, delivered by staff and in partnership with Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools.

School Housekeeping

Children arriving after the bell or leaving early.

As part of our wellbeing care of children at St Luke's, every class engages in a morning routine at 8.50 am.  This quiet, calm time allows children to gather together in a circle, to greet each other by name, to pray and/or enter into some Christian meditation and get ready for the day.  Please make sure you allow enough time to get your child to school BEFORE the student entry doors close at 8.50 am.

If children arrive after the gate and student entry doors are locked, parents/carers are required to walk their child/ren to the school office and sign them in on the VPass iPad.

If leaving early (before the end of the day), parents/carers are required to sign their child/ren out on the VPASS iPad.

WINTER UNIFORMS:

With the colder weather coming on, please make sure your child has his/her school jumper EVERY day. Many children are choosing to wear a rain jacket instead of their jumpers. The rain jacket is for outside use only.
