Welcome back to Term 3. Already, we have another very busy term lined up with many activities in place. Congratulations to our student leadership team and Room 5 who have run our assemblies this term. Room 5 students gave us all a very good insight into growth and fixed mindsets. I have always used the saying….I can’t do it yet! Something very important for all our students to be aware of and keep this in their mind at all times!
This term we have welcomed 2 amazing teachers from the flying squad. Mr Keighley who has been working with the Year 6 students and Miss Potvin who has been in with the Year 4/5 class for the first 2 weeks of the term. We are now making very good use of their expertise and utilising them throughout the school for relief. Mr Keighley will be leaving us at the end of week 6 and Miss Potvin will remain with us for the entire Term 3. We also welcome Lisa Mahoney who has joined us as an international recruit. Lisa will be commencing our Early Learning Program and working in each of our Kindergarten and pre-primary classes. Along with our 3 teachers, we have also welcomed Miss Lynch who is with us until the end of week 6. Miss Lynch is doing some Education Assistant work.
We had some very successful events since our last edition of our newsletter. The whole school learning journey night was another fantastic opportunity for our community to come into the school and see what the incredible work that the students have been doing. Thank you to our P&C who fed many hungry families on the night. We held a very successful NAIDOC event, and it was wonderful to see community members attending our event. A big thank you to Mrs Bateman and Ms Bree who worked very closely with me in making this event a success. The parents that provided a tasting dish on the day – we had the best spread Newman has ever seen! Thank you also goes to the many families who turned up on the day to assist in some way. A MASSIVE THANK YOU to 3 of our amazing businesses in town who supported this day. SportsPower, Woolworths and IGA.
All students in Years 1 – 6 had a special visit from a retired Eagles player – the one and only Nic Naitanui. The students had the opportunity to ask questions, do warmups and kick the footy. Another MASSIVE THANK YOU to Brooke Wilson – BHP for bringing Nic to our school.
Students in Years 3 – 6 have also had the opportunity to work with Softball WA. They came to our school to run clinics for the students. Another very successful event for our students.
I can assure you; the students have all settled back into school and have been working like little troopers! All classrooms should now have sent notes home to parents inviting you into the classroom at different times during the week. If the suggested times do not suit you, please speak with the classroom teacher to arrange another suitable time. We encourage you to come into your child’s classroom to further support their learning.
School photos for 2024 have been completed. Once these are returned to the school, the teachers will send them home with your child. Should you have any concerns with your child’s photos, you will need to contact the company that took the photos. We as a school, cannot help you with any concerns.
Our School Board would like to invite any interested parents to our open meeting on the 20 August at 6.30pm in our school library. Come along and see how the school Board assist with the governance of the school as referenced in the diagram below.
Keep an eye out for other events coming up at the school. I will send home a “save the date” note as a reminder for Term 3 events.
Our priority is always your child and in developing a close relationship with our school community where we all work together to provide the best educational opportunities for all children at Newman Primary School. Please remember to make yourself known to your child’s class teacher and don’t hesitate to seek clarification on any questions you may have. Your child’s teacher is always the first port of call. If further clarification is needed or you would like to discuss other areas, please do not hesitate to contact me.
