Welcome back to Term 2. We have had a busy start, with a year 5/6 excursion, SAPSASA Cricket and Autism Awareness Week all happening over the first two weeks. There have also been many fun and engaging learning activities happening in class with many classes venturing outside to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having at the moment.
As we begin to experience some cooler mornings, it would be timely to check that your child’s jumper/jacket is clearly labelled with their name. Naming clothing items makes reuniting them with their owners much easier.
On Wednesday we hosted Norwood Primary School to play SAPSASA Cricket against Dernancourt. It was great to see both teams having a go, enjoying being outside and cheering each other on. Unfortunately, we did not win, but I was very proud of the sportsmanship that our students showed to the Norwood team. Well-done to all involved.
The first Dernancourt Governing Council Walk and Talk was held last week, with 3 parents joining together to walk, talk and catch up. If you are keen to join some members of Governing Council to walk, chat about school and life and share ideas all while getting your step count up, then meet at the crossing at 2:15pm, for a 2:20pm start, returning to school in time for pick up.
Thank you to our Parent Association Members, who have organised and volunteered their time for the Mother’s Day stall for Friday May 10. A reminder that gifts can be purchased for $5 or $10, and classes all have a scheduled time to visit.
Walk safely to school day is on Friday, May 10, and we encourage you to walk to school if you can or park a little further away from school and walk some of the way. I will be at the school crossing in the morning, saying hello to our walkers and working with our crossing monitors to ensure everyone arrives safely.
Lastly, I wish all the mum’s, mother figures, grandmothers and special people and wonderful Mother’s Day. I hope you are able to take a little time to stop, relax and enjoy some family time.
