Term 4 Week 1 Newsletter - Friday 13 October 2023

PRINCIPAL’S THOUGHTS

Messages from Mr Ackerman

Welcome to Term 4

A warm welcome to Term 4 for all families, particularly those new to the Drummoyne PS community.

I would like to thank all the staff, students and families who have made me feel welcome as Acting Principal of Drummoyne PS. This is a lovely community and I have enjoyed catching up with many students to hear what they love about this school. My thanks to Mr Dill and Mrs Colb for an extensive handover. I look forward to working closely with staff as we get ready for another fantastic term and ensure we finish 2023 in a positive way. We have many great initiatives and events planned over the coming weeks, please keep an eye on our Audiri Skoolbag app or School Bytes emails for all the important details.

Our significant work this term includes a focus on leadership with our Year 5 cohort as they get ready for Year 6, thanks to Ms Page for all her work in this area. Our staff are also focusing on end of year student reports and the upcoming presentation days, such a busy time in schools. Our planning for 2024 continues as well, with Ms Walsh leading our Kindergarten orientation and transition programs. I hope to catch up with our new students and families over the coming weeks ahead.

With our October P&C meeting next Tuesday, Kindergarten Orientation night on Thursday and the P&C Disco on Friday, I hope to catch up with many families and community members. Please come up and say hello.

P&C Support

The referendum is on this Saturday and voting will be open in our school hall. I encourage you all to support our P&C as they host a sausage sizzle in the COLA. Thanks to our hard-working P&C for organising this fundraiser.

2024 Enrolment

Will your child be enrolled here in 2024? If you have a preschooler that is not yet enrolled please contact the school office or see our school website for enrolment information: https://drummoyne-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html. If your family circumstances have changed and you are not continuing at Drummoyne in 2024, please ensure you have contacted the office so we can accurately track our student numbers. This applies to all students in K-5. Thank you to all those families who have already reached out to us. With accurate student numbers we can confidently plan our classes and teachers for next year.

Parent Feedback Survey

Each year we seek your feedback on how we can improve our school. This helps our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on your child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

Our Drummoyne Public School Parent Survey (utilising the Tell Them From Me “Partners in Learning” survey) will be asking parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 20 minutes to complete and is completely confidential. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Class of the Week - 5/6O

In PDHPE lessons class 5/6O students researched what sugar is, where it comes from and the effects sugar has on our bodies.

We also explored the marketing of high-sugar products.

Finally we designed new canteen menus that have 25% or under of occasional foods and 75% of healthy food choices.

Product recall from Father's Day Stall

The LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch with strap (Product) purchased for the recent Father’s Day stall is defective in that it is unable to handle charging currents higher than 1A.

This means that if the USB cable is used in common third-party fast chargers, or high power chargers, there is a risk that the USB cable could overheat and catch fire.

If your child purchased an LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch, please return the charging cable to the office in a sealed envelope marked with your child's name on it.

To replace the returned product, Moon & Back will provide suitable replacement USB cables to our school in the next 21 days and we will send home the new replacements for customers who return the defective USB cables.
