Kaya, Parents & Community Members,

Our school celebrated P&C Day last Friday where the P&C generously supplied a healthy morning tea to all students. Prior to the day classes were keen to show appreciation by making cards, posters and artwork that is now displayed in the Library. When we stop and consider the support provided to our school by the truly wonderful P&C, the list is long and the benefits never-ending. A massive thanks to all members of this group – and double thumbs up from a large random sample of children.

Finally, you may have seen or heard from your children about our staff “Celebration of Wellness” week. Our Music Monday was a huge hit with students, staff went “trekking” on Tuesday, we had Walk off Wednesday (WOW plus coffee), Yoga on Thursday and culminated the week in true COW spirit - dressing in black and white. While the activities were fun, recognition of staff wellbeing is vital to a high functioning, productive workplace – my thanks to the organisers and to all staff for being part of a wonderful team.

Black and White Dress-Up Day

As many of you are aware, our school staff have participated in “Celebration of Wellness” this week, which has been filled with exciting activities and events.

As part of this special week, we’re inviting students to join staff in a fun-filled dress-up day tomorrow!  The theme for the day is “Black and White”, and we would be delighted to see as many students as possible participating in this event.  We want to emphasise that participation is entirely voluntary.  There is no expectation to join if you prefer not to, but we encourage everyone to consider getting involved and adding a splash of monochromatic charm to our school environment.  Please note we will not be collecting donations for this event.

Important Information

School Photos

Photo envelopes were sent home last week.  Please ensure your child brings their envelope back to school on their photo day, even if photographs are not ordered.

The school photos for children in Lorikeets will be held on Thursday, June 8th and Kookaburra's to Year 6 will be held on Wednesday, June 7th.

Family portrait envelopes will be handed out to students who present to the photographer for family/sibling photos on photo day.  All family/sibling photos will take place at 8am in the Makuru wet area for children in Kookaburra's to Year 6 on June 7th and Lorikeets on June 8th.

Wonderful World of Work

Room 6 students were very creative with their Mother's Day cards.  Miss Cole had the pleasure of seeing first hand some of the student's wonderful work.

This video showcases the amazing stop motion art projects from the Year 4 students in Room 6.  Students used permanent markers, watercolour paints, model magic clay and cellophane to create their masterpieces before filming using the Stop Motion Studio app on their iPads.  They then cropped their videos to ensure only their art was in frame. This project was inspired by the opening scenes in the Japanese anime movie, Ponyo.

P & C Day

Mother's Day in Pre-Primary

On Wednesday, May 17th, Pre-Primary celebrated Mother's Day by inviting all MAGIC people (Mums, Aunties, Grandmas, Important Carers) into our classrooms to enjoy a breakfast of scones, jam and cream, coffee, painting, and creating amazing crafts.  Everyone had fun looking at the beautiful portraits the children had painted of their mums and reading the information the children had written about their mum's favourite things.  It was wonderful to see such a fantastic turnout and to see everyone sharing such a joyful special morning.

Mother's Day in Kindergarten

The Kindergarten families enjoyed sharing a fun concert and special activities with their Mums, Nanna's, Auntie, Special Person and Dad too!  We sang some of our favourite songs like Tooty Ta, made our Mum's very special "Magic Crowns" that have the power to give them at least 10 minutes of uninterrupted quiet time, and gave them a relaxing massage with some hand cream!

Thank you, Mums and Special People, for everything you do to help us in Kindergarten be the best that we can be.

AQWA Excursion Room 7 & 8

On Monday 22nd May, Room 7 & 8 went to AQWA at Hillary's. As soon as we arrived off the bus we went to the headquarters. Then we explored AQWA in our groups, and we saw all the amazing underwater sea creatures. Our favourite part was when we went to the touch pool and got to touch sharks, fish and a starfish!

After recess, the guide showed us cool facts about different sea creatures. Did you know a flying fish can fly up to 11 meters? Next, we drew the sea creatures on paper and shared all the superpowers that these amazing animals have.

Then everyone had lunch and played on the pirate ship playground. Once everyone had lunch, we practiced being secret agents for our scavenger hunt. Finally, we did our scavenger hunt, and we were able to crack the code. The code taught us that WE are the most important piece to looking after our environment.

It was the best excursion ever; we all had a fun time at AQWA and we would love to go again.

Winter Sports Reports

Glengarry PS v Duncraig PS :  Friday, 12 May

Soccer

We had yet another win this week, this time against Duncraig PS. Ethan and Jayden were our best players as they were good sports and passed the ball. When Ethan fell he would get up straight away.

Jude

AFL

Although we tried our hardest, we lost to Duncraig. Beau and Atticus were our best players. Even though Beau was sandwiched between two players he managed to keep going and Atticus's long kicks helped us to move the ball.

The Footy Team

Netball A

We fought hard but unfortunately, we lost to Duncraig 22 goals to 11. Hana's defending was spectacular and she was always jumping for the ball. Georgia was always in front of her player and got a lot of intercepts.

Brooke

Netball B

We tried our best against Duncraig. Meera was our best player as she shot lots of goals in a row. She was amazing.

Tia

Volleyball A

Even though Tomas put his body on the line we lost a hard-fought game against Duncraig PS.

Summer

Volleyball B

We had a 2 sets to 1 win against Duncraig this week. Bailey was our best player as he was cheering everyone on and caught almost all of the shots that came his way. He was also sharing strategies with the team.

Glengarry PS v Sorrento PS : Friday 19 May

AFL

We won an amazing game, 90 points to 14. Flynn and Nate were our best players on ground. Flynn kicked 4 goals, Nate scored 3 goals plus he had a lot of second efforts.

Netball A

We had a close game but came away with a win 13 goals to 12. Caitlin was amazing in defence. She ran so fast around the court grabbing the ball. She was all round awesome. Lola also shot some goals and was always free to pass the ball to.

Lola

Netball B

We had a great win over Sorrento, 12 goals to1. Emilia was really fast to catch the ball and was always free to pass the ball to. She was also not called on many times buy the umpire.
