Important Diary Dates

From the Principal

Yassou!!

Wow, what a couple of super busy and exciting weeks we’ve just had! We had some fantastic learning activities for Reconciliation Week which you will see this throughout the contents of the special edition of the newsletter. We also have an assembly in week 7 which has a focus on Reconciliation Week and is an opportunity for students to share their learning with you. Today we had a Jump Rope for Heart "Jump Off Day" which was very successful. In fact I’m writing this while being out on the playground and I can see the students putting in maximum effort and having great fun while they’re at it !!  At the beginning of the term I did observe a lot of children unable to skip and heard lots of "I can’t do it" and "I don’t like it" but now I am watching all of our students giving it a go - what great persistence and growth!

As you would know from the letter that went out earlier I am going on holiday on Monday and we have Peri Simpson from Keyneton Primary School stepping in as Acting Principal. Please make Peri welcome. I’m sure you all will and I’ll see you all next term!

Antio sas!

From the Deputy Principal

On Friday 2nd June, Nuriootpa Primary School acknowledged the culmination of two week focus of learning about National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. The day began with an Acknowledgement of Country and a smoking ceremony, by Luritja Ngaurabana man, Kob Schmaal. The students then participated in a rotation of activities: Traditional games, Story Stones-Witjuti Grub, Making a Yarning Box, and The First Astronomers story and activity.

The Nunga group, students from Reception to year 6, helped plan and assist with the running of activities. I would to thank Daniella, demonstrating the value of being brave, when she stepped up to teach how to make the Yarning Boxes, when her video clip did not work.

The feedback from the students was positive and Brooke and I would like to thank the students and staff for helping to make the day successful.
