Holbrook Public School

Quality education for all, in a secure and caring environment

ISSUE 12: Term 3, Week 3 - Monday, 31 July 2023

From the Principal's desk

This week for Education Week, we celebrate an impressive 175 years of Public Education in NSW. As we reflect on this remarkable journey, we invite all parents, caregivers, and community members to join us for a special event - Open Classrooms Day, on Thursday, 3 August 2023.

At 11:00 a.m., we will focus on enhancing literacy skills in all classrooms. Following that, at 12:00 p.m., we delve into the world of mathematics, sharing the daily teaching and learning in our K-6 classrooms.

To add to the festivities, we encourage everyone to bring a picnic lunch to share with their children during the short lunch break, bringing our school community together.

Furthermore, this term, we have significantly emphasised promoting positive behaviour for learning across the school. Our students enthusiastically collaborate to fill the 'Star Card' bucket, a tangible representation of their collective efforts. As they accumulate stars through their positive conduct, they move closer to earning a well-deserved whole school reward - a 'Free Choice Dress Up Day.' This initiative has sparked enthusiasm and teamwork, as students are driven to contribute positively to their learning environment.

Last week, our Kindergarten students celebrated a fantastic milestone - 101 days of learning at Holbrook Public School. Thanks to the P&C, they enjoyed a delightful cupcake party, accompanied by the joyful presence of many families united in celebrating this significant achievement.

Have a great week, and I look forward to seeing you this Thursday to celebrate Education Week at Holbrook Public School.

Louise Purss-Semple

Principal

Polocrosse

During the July school holidays, Ollie and Georgie Cardile travelled to South Africa to play Polocrosse in an Under 14 “Barbarian” team against South Africa. Their team was made up of 3 UK girls, 2 Zambian Boys, 1 South African girl and 2 Aussies, Ollie and Georgie. In a 3-match test series after losing the first game, the Barbarians made an unexpected comeback to win the series 2-1. Ollie's loan horse, Hot Chocolate, was awarded the best male horse of the tournament. It was an incredible experience riding so many horses and learning from some of the best coaches in the world.

101 Days of Kindergarten celebrations

Flyaway Gymnastics

On Friday, my class went to the hall to do gymnastics with the Flyaway Gymnastics coaches. There were lots of activities in the hall at Holbrook Public School. My favourite activities were the mini bouncy tramp and the red bouncy ramp. The kids showed their 4 C's such as care, consideration, courtesy and cooperation.  I can't wait to do gymnastics next week.
Ethan Atherton and Zayne Liddell

On Friday, we went to the hall to Flyaway Gymnastics at Holbrook Public School. It was the whole school doing gymnastics but not all at the same time. We went in the morning. We took turns doing different activities. We took our shoes off to jump on the mini trampoline. I like balancing and rolling on the mats. We are doing gymnastics for six weeks.
Ruby & Bella Mohr

On Friday, we did gymnastics in the hall at Holbrook Public School. The whole school got to do gymnastics. We played musical statues to warm up our bodies. The coaches from Flyaway Gymnastics helped us; their names were Jess, Oliver and Alicia. My favourite part was the mini trampoline. You had to jump up high 3 times and do a tuck with your legs and land in a motorbike landing. We get to do gymnastics next week too. I loved it!
