Principal's Message

Dear Community

This week we had our school photos for 2023 and I would like to congratulate all of our students for the responsible way they handled this disruption to their learning routine. We can’t wat to see the final pictures! The last date for ordering photos at the discounted price is 8 June 2023, after this date they will be charged at standard rates.

Over the next month watch out for further details around some of our upcoming events, including:

  • Speak up Finals for 4-6 students on June 13
  • School Cross Country event for PP-6 students on June 19
  • Book Fair June 21-22
  • Interschool Winter Sports Carnival for selected 4-6 students on June 23

Dress Code

I would like to highlight a few sections of the Scarborough Primary School Dress Code. The policy can be found on our website at the following link, and below are some sections to prompt a gentle reminder for some of our students who have been coming to school with some inappropriate items of late.

Student-Dress-Code-Policy-2020.2.pdf (scarboroughps.wa.edu.au)

  • Rationale: Scarborough Primary School believes the wearing of a school uniform promotes a sense of unity, pride and community, and discourages competitive dressing amongst students. Parents are encouraged to purchase all items from the uniform shop to support the P&C
  • Other: Students are permitted to wear stud style earrings or small sleepers. Makeup is not permitted. Excessive amounts of jewellery are not permitted unless for religious / cultural reasons. Permission for this should be sought through the Principal. Long hair must be tied back for health and safety reasons. Hair accessories should be simple. Shoes must be enclosed, safe and practical. No thongs / crocs etc. are to be worn unless for medical reasons or during in-term swimming lessons.

Cyber Safety

Over the next few fortnights, there will be a focus on cyber safety in each newsletter. In this fortnight’s cyber safety section, we will be focussing on the topic of screen time.  Cyber safety is a topic that we touch on as part of our Protective Behaviours curriculum at school, however, it is helpful if these important messages are also understood and delivered at home too. The information and link below come from the eSafety Commissioner.

There is no magic figure. The right amount of screen time can depend on a range of factors like your child’s age and maturity, the kind of content they are consuming, their learning needs and your family routine. It can be easy to focus only on the clock, but the quality and nature of what they are doing online, and your involvement, are just as important.

Consider your child’s screen use in the context of their overall health and wellbeing. For example, is online time getting in the way of their sleep and exercise? Is it impacting on their face-to-face connections with family and friends? The answers to these questions will guide you and help strike the right balance of online and offline activities for your child.

For more information on how to support your children in managing their screen time and information on what to do if you are concerned, please click on the link below.
