Term 2 - Week 8 (20th June, 2025)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Focus Value: : Forgiveness

We accept apologies and give others the opportunity to do the right thing and to have another chance.

Pupil Free Day

Thank you once again for being patient with the unplanned change. As previously mentioned, I am on L.S.L for the final two weeks of school and Mrs Riethmuller will be Acting Principal in my absence.

Life Link Day

Wednesday was St Mary’s annual Life Link Day where we all had the chance to wear our Jim Jams to school. Lots of fun was had comparing Jammies while raising money for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Confirmation

We wish all our students who are about to be confirmed into the Catholic Church the best for this Sunday. I would like to express my gratitude to both Mrs Mac and Father Philip for their guidance over recent months in preparing the children for this auspicious event in their lives. The Confirmation Mass will take place at 10.30am, everyone is welcome to come along to support the children on this special day.

Farewell

We would like to wish Tahlia Gillet all the best moving forward as she leaves us here at St Mary’s to head on to the next stage of her career. The Year 5/6 class will miss you and our thoughts and prayers go with you.

P&F

Our amazing P&F parents have been quietly working behind the scenes, meeting with various manufacturer’s and companies preparing for their next significant project. More info will follow in coming months. I continue to be very grateful for the support both the CSAC and P&F extend to me and the amount of work they put in to make the lives of our students that much better.

School Performance Review

The students speak positively about the new Student Leadership model and show pride in their leadership and appreciate the opportunities to be role models through the committees.

God Bless

Mr Hamersley

Class News

Pre-Kindy

What a wonderful and busy term we’ve had in Pre-Kindy! One of the highlights has been learning about Creation and how God made the world in 7 days. Each week, we’ve explored a different part of the story and the children have enjoyed learning about God’s amazing work.

To help us retell the story, each child has been working on their very own Creation Book. These books are filled with collaged elements and a simple poem to match each day of Creation. It’s been wonderful watching them take pride in their work and create something special to take home.

We’ve also been focusing on building our fine motor skills, with a particular emphasis on cutting. Our little learners have been practising how to hold scissors correctly and are gaining confidence with snipping—learning to make small, controlled cuts in paper. This is such an important foundation for their future cutting, writing, and hand coordination skills. It’s been lovely to see their determination and excitement as they practise this new skill!

We’re so proud of everything the children are achieving, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to grow and learn as the year unfolds.

Special Events

"Bubsie" visit

Earlier this week we were very lucky to have received a welcoming visit from a special replica car "Bubsie". A replica of the very first car to travel the entire way around Australia. The car helped to spread the religious message around Australia and is celebrating 100 years since missionary Neville Westwood first completed the journey. Thank you for visiting St Mary's!

West Coast Fever Wheatbelt Goldfields Primary School Cup

Yesterday, 32 students travelled to Northam to proudly represent St Mary’s in the West Coast Fever Wheatbelt Goldfields Primary School Cup. Both of our Year 5/6 teams took out the top spot in their divisions, and our enthusiastic Year 3/4 team were runners-up in their division. If there had been a prize for the best team chant, the year 3/4 team would have claimed that too!

A huge thank you to our wonderful parents who stepped up as coaches, umpires, scorers, and team managers to make the day possible. Our students displayed excellent sportsmanship, team spirit and camaraderie throughout the carnival—well done to all!

Family Friday

We had another great turnout for our Family Friday today. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and significant others who came along this morning.

Cummins Theatre Show - Whalebone June 25th 10.00am

Whalebone “Featuring dazzling video and computer animations, flying objects and a pinch of circus, this richly visual theatrical experience takes kids and adults alike on a roller-coaster ride.

WHALEBONE is filled with eccentric contraptions, strange machinery and clunky inventions, including the world’s first half- human juggling machine!

Nestled in the mysterious ‘Depository’, meet a lone worker with a mission. In a world where AI and machines are going rogue and making more and more decisions for us, he tries to

safeguard human stories, memories and emotions. Laugh out loud, gasp in awe, and let your imagination soar. Whalebone will ignite the curiosity of young aspiring inventors, as well

as everyone who loves stories and wonders.

It invites audiences to ponder the role of technology in our lives, sparking conversations about what really defines us as humans.”
