Term 3 Week 4

Last week, we had a very busy and exciting week at Caves Beach Public School as we celebrated both Education Week and Book Week. It was great to see our school community come together to celebrate learning, creativity and the joy of reading. A big thank you to Mrs Tonks for all her organisation and preparation in bringing our Book Week celebrations and parade together. The Book Parade was a great afternoon, with students and staff getting into the spirit of the day and bringing their favourite book characters to life.

Tomorrow, we wish our Year 3 students, along with Mr Lane and Mrs Nebauer, all the best as they head off on their first overnight camp. We hope they have a great time and enjoy the activities and experiences planned for them.

Finally, we wish all students competing at Zone on Friday the very best of luck. We are very proud of their achievements and look forward to hearing how they go.

In 3L, we love getting creative with words! Students have been enjoying reading It’s the Sound of the Thing and exploring the exciting world of poetry. This week, we focused on metaphors, learning how poets can compare two different things to create vivid and imaginative ideas. Students worked incredibly hard experimenting with the idea of comparing a car to a monster, using creative language to bring their writing to life. I am so proud of the wonderful effort, imagination and creativity 3L has shown in their poetry writing!

What a wonderful day celebrating both Education Week and Book Week with our incredible school community!

We began the morning by welcoming families to a Real Schools parent presentation in our hall, followed by the opportunity to visit classrooms.

Throughout the day, our community came together to enjoy a picnic lunch, browse the Book Fair and indulge in some delicious treats from our Year 6 cake stall.

Of course, one of the highlights of the day was our colourful Book Week Parade. From much-loved storybook characters to creative costumes, our students and staff brought books to life with an amazing display of imagination and enthusiasm. The smiles, laughter and excitement made it easy to see why this is one of our favourite days of the year.

A huge thank you to our students and school community for helping make today such a memorable celebration of learning and community. 

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3, students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

• The assessment will be scheduled for our Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students during Weeks 6 to 9 (Monday 24 August to Friday 18 September) with a finalisation week in week 10 (21 September to 25 September).    

• All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment during weeks 6 to 9.

What a fantastic day for our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students at the Touch Footy Gala Day! Our students had a great time competing, showing off their skills and enjoying a fun day of sport with their friends.

A huge thank you to the parents who came along and helped out on the day. Your support and assistance were greatly appreciated and helped make the day such a success.

Please send a black display folder with current band music to rehearsals each week.

Isabella O'Brien - flute and bass guitar - Tuesday

 Fees:

Fees will be collected through the school office for all band members. These will be allocated to your School Bytes account in the next few weeks and include the whole year fee and instrument hire, if applicable. 

These fees can be paid off termly @ $60 per term or in full at any stage of the year. Instrument hire fees are due term 1 to secure the instrument for your child. Instrument hire fee is non- refundable.

Band fee - $60 per student per term.

Instrument Hire fee - $100 per year, due term 1

Reeds:

Reeds are available for purchase with cash only to Mrs Scott or Lance at band rehearsal:

Clarinet - Rico - $3.50 (Beginner students) 

Clarinet - Vandoren - $4.50 (Intermediate - advanced Students) 

Saxophone - $4.50 

Bass Clarinet - $7.50

Students will be supplied with a reed when one is broken so they can continue to participate in rehearsals and lessons.  A slip will be sent home with your child with the cost displayed and payment is expected within the same week.  Happy  music making!
