Eastlakes Edition

Term 4 Week 3

Acknowledgement to Country

On behalf of the students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, we would like to pay our respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful andresponsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

Well what a start we have had to Term 4! The swimming program for the first 2 weeks has contributed to improved swimming skills for those students who attended.

Breakfast Club has started and is on every Monday morning from 8.30am to 8.45am in the amphitheatre.  It’s great to see students eating something healthy before class. Thank you to Miss Atkins who initiated this program and has received  donations from local supermarkets and cereal companies.

Last week we participated in Day for Daniel where students learn about:

  • personal safety and what to do if they ever feel unsafe;
  • recognising bodies clues when feeling unsafe and
  • reporting feeling unsafe to your safety team which are trusted people who can help when feeling this way.

We celebrated world teachers day and recognised the amazing work that teachers do each and every day. We received wonderful messages and treats from parents, support from the community and lovely messages of thanks from our students.

Our Stage 3 students and their teachers went overnight camp to Canberra and had the best time! They came back tired yet excited and happy. A huge thank you to Miss Maher, Mr Spencer and Miss Cox for their commitment to this excursion enabling EPS students new and interesting experiences beyond the school gates.

This week we welcomed our future Kinder students for 2025 and their parents and carers at the Kinder Transition Program.  They will be visiting us for the next their weeks and participating in classroom and outdoor activities  while their parents attend information sessions. Thank you to Ms Kutasi who has coordinated and organised this excellent program.

Yesterday we had inaugural handball cup  and what a fantastic competition that was! I was in awe of the way every single student from Kinder to Year 6 participated and found myself swelling with pride to see my students show fair play and good sportsmanship throughout the competition. Well done to all students and congratulations to the stage finalists: Early Stage 1 - Shehroz; Stage 1- Hasan; Stage 2 - Samuel and Stage 3 - Zak.

Special congratulations to the Champion of the Inaugural Eastlakes Public School Handball Cup, Zak from 6-5S!

To finish Week 3 the P&C organised Pyjama Day  and a raffle with amazing prizes from local Eastlakes businesses. Everyone looked very relaxed in their pyjamas!

We also finished the week with the dance performances that were postponed due to the inclement weather last term. I have to say we have some very talented dancers K-6!!

I look forward to the weeks ahead as there is more fun to come...

Majestic Memories

Students from the Botany Bay Network were excited to meet Her Majesty the Queen as she attended a ground-breaking writing workshop at Green Square Library on Tuesday 22 October.

The writing workshop, which brought together aspiring young writers from Years 5 to 8, featured a diverse line-up of renowned authors who served as facilitators and mentors for the participating students.

Eastlakes PS representative was Zak from 6-5M. You can see Zak in the photo sitting at the table with Her Majesty the Queen and the Honourable Prue Car, Deputy Premier, Minister for Education and Early Learning and Minister for Western Sydney. Her Majesty The Queen visited the workshop as part of the current Royal tour and chatted with students, teachers and the authors about the craft of writing.

The visit provided a rare opportunity for students to engage with the monarch as she observed the innovative approaches being taken in NSW public schools in high potential and gifted education.

The Green Square Library writing workshop highlighted the work NSW public schools are doing to nurture talented young learners across the four areas of potential: intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical.

It is part of a broader commitment by the NSW Government to increase educational opportunities for high potential and gifted students (HPGE) and to have HPGE offerings for students in all schools by 2026.

Students from primary and high schools engaged for most of the day with four published authors: Will Kostakis, Kylie Captain, Sue Murray and Yvette Poshoglian.

They facilitated groups of students to explore the concept of "Community" through writing.

The four authors were then joined by other published authors including Matt Cosgrove, Roslyn McFarland, Apsara Baldovino and the Australian Children’s Laureate Sally Rippin for a panel where students could ask them about being a writer and their inspirations.

EPS Handball Cup

The long awaited Inaugural Eastlakes Public School Handball Cup was finally held on Thursday the 31st of October. Students competed in stage knock-out rounds until a finalist was determined for each Stage.

The competition was fierce and highly contested. All students demonstrated fair play and were gracious in both victory and defeat. The whole school cheer squad was a sight to see! It really did embody the Eastlakes PS school spirit and showed what a supportive learning community we are.

Congratulations to the stage finalists: Early Stage 1: Shehroz, Stage 1: Hasan, Stage 2: Samuel, Stage 3: Zak.

A big congratulations to the Champion of the Inaugural Eastlakes Public School Handball Cup, Zak!
