Principal's Report

Hello everybody,

I cannot believe we are already deep into week 5 of Term 4!

Next Friday the 10th of November, the Grade 6s will be running a car wash to help raise funds to cover the costs of their Grade 6 Jackets. They have spent time working through the logistics and costings of running an event like this and are very excited to be able to offer you all a chance to have your cars sparkle! The car wash will be up and running from 8:30AM – 9:30AM and then from 2:30PM – 4:00PM on Friday the 10th of November. FOS are also running a Pop-Up Café on the same afternoon to help support the Grade 6s. A massive thank you to Adam Mizzi who has kindly donated all of the cleaning equipment for the grade 6s to use! Thank you Adam!

Due to unfortunate weather the planned District Orienteering competition did not go ahead last Thursday. It has been rescheduled to this coming Friday the 3rd of November. Students in grade 3-6 will be walking down to Tony Clarke Reserve after recess on Friday and returning by 3:30PM. Students participating in the orienteering will not be able to order lunch orders on the day. If you have not already done so please jump onto QKR! and provide permission for your child to participate.

This week, parents of students from grades 3-6 will be receiving a notice about the Preparation for Puberty course that the school will be running. We have sought the expertise of Sex Education Australia to deliver their grade 3/4 and grade 5/6 programs here at school this term. This year we have also opted to include a parent information session to be held via zoom. This information session will be a great chance for parents to learn about what is covered in the program as well as how it is delivered. Using the same language as the presenters can help to foster rich conversations with your child during the program. It is your choice for your child to undertake this program. If you feel that your child is not yet ready to learn about and discuss these topics, then we will provide an alternate program for them. As parents, it is always best for you to make these decisions and to encourage talking at home. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you do not want your child to participate. The program will commence with the parent information night on the 13th of November at 7:00PM (Link provided in the note being sent home). Sex Education Australia’s website also has information about the delivery and content of the program: https://www.sexeducationaustralia.com.au/

This week saw the beginning of the transition program for our 2024 Foundation class. Mrs Bowen took four grade 6 students and four Foundation students down to Macedon Kindergarten to chat with some of the students who will make up our 2024 Foundation class. The feedback on these visits was fantastic with the grade 6s being able to remember visits from MMPS students when they themselves were in kinder!

Information is going home today regarding our upcoming Grade 3 Camp! This year the grade 3s are heading off to ride horse and explore nature at Boomerang Ranch, just outside of Daylesford. The camp is over two days, 21st – 22nd of November, and is a great chance to develop resiliency skills as well as developing an appreciation of what the great outdoors has to offer.

I hope everyone is travelling well and taking some time to recharge and prepare for what will be a busy finish to the year!

Thanks, Joe.

As part of our inquiry, Foundation/1 and Grade 1/2 went to the Melbourne Zoo. We focused on minibeasts and endangered animals, but were lucky enough to have time to see most of the animals. The day was great and the children represented our school beautifully.
