In History the Year 4 students have been learning about significant explorers of the past and the difficulties they faced sailing in the 1800’s.

Bookweek 2023

Bookweek 2023 was once again a residing success, with an amazing array of costumes and a fun-filled day full of exciting activities that the students loved!

This years theme was thanks to the amazingly talented illustrator Matt Ottley. "Read, grow, inspire" comes to life in the striking flying hero seahorse carrying young readers through an endless, boundary-less, sunlight lit space where imagination has unlimited scope for growth and infinite possibility.

We definitely saw lots of evidence of this in the fantastic costumes that our students arrived in yesterday!! Thank you to Mrs Discenza for coordinating the day and for all the staff for ensuring that it ran so smoothly!!

P&F Thankyou

The results are in from the Battery Drive! We have delivered 26 pallets of batteries with the assistance of Great Eastern Freightlines to Perth. Which has enabled us to raise $11,889.41 for our School P & F! What an amazing amount of batteries that have been donated from within Merredin and surrounds. Thank you to everyone who donated batteries to this fundraiser, to Great Eastern Freightlines for donating the transport of the batteries to Perth and to Brendon Bartlett for co-ordinating the drop off location within Merredin. Without these contributions this                                                                                                   would have not been possible. Thank you 🙏

Eric Hind Scholarship

Eric Hind was born in Nottingham in England in 1901. He migrated to Western Australia in 1926 and came immediately to the Wheatbelt. In 1928 he took up farming land at Burracoppin and so commenced a lifetime of interest in the Burracoppin Area.

During the Second World War Eric enlisted in the R.A.A.F and served overseas.

In 1953 he was elected to the then Merredin Road Board and continued to represent the people of Burracoppin on the Merredin Shire Council until his retirement in 1989.

After 36 years of service on the Road Board and Shire Council, the Merredin Shire Council presented Eric with a long service award and made him a Freeman of the Shire. In 1990 he received the Order of Australia Medal for services to the community.

Eric Hind was an accomplished violinist who had gained his A.L.C.M (Eng) diploma before leaving England. As an active member of the Merredin Musical Society and Concert Orchestra of the day, Eric was much sought after as a violinist and was willing to perform at any function if possible. Eric also served on the local W.A Symphony Orchestra Committee and was instrumental in getting many concerts in Merredin over a number of years.

In his honor, the Shire of Merredin offers a yearly music scholarship to the value of $1000.00.
