The Millsy Flyer

Monday 27th November Term 4 Week 8

From the Principal

Student Success:

Our Year 5 and 6 students had an amazing excursion to Canberra recently. I was impressed with their knowledge of Australian Democracy and the thought provoking questions they asked when visiting venues. Congratulations to Harper, Jenna, Hunter and Kobi who received a Kili Biin Binn Aboriginal Education award today at our Warners Bay Communality of School Award Ceremony today. Well done!

Presentation Day:

Our Presentation Day will be held on Friday 8th December at 10am at Warners Bay High School. We look forward to seeing you there.

Kinder Orientation:

It was wonderful to see our 2024 Kinder students at the teddy bear’s picnic last week. The students met their buddies and had a chance to picnic with their fluffy teddy bears. The Kinder Expo will be held this week for parents.

Build Update:

The new classrooms are currently being painted internally and being fitted with cabinetry. Not too long until they are finished! The construction of a covered walkway between the primary COLA and C Block will also begin this week.

Year 6 Pool Day:

Year 6 are off to the pool this week for their end of primary school celebration. We are sure they will enjoy the day.

Volunteer’s Morning Tea:

We invite all parent volunteers to come along this Friday to enjoy a thank you morning tea with staff, 11:10am – 11:50am in the school hall. We appreciate everything our parent volunteers do for our school so would love to see you there.

Assembly:

The end of the year is a time of celebration and at WBPS we make time to acknowledge the achievements of our students. This year we are trialling a separate assembly for the Gold Millsy and Principal's Reading Challenge Platinum awards in the hope it will help us to better accommodate the parents and carers attending our Presentation Day assembly at the high school on Friday Dec 8. The Celebration Assembly for Gold Millsy and Principal's Reading Challenge Platinum Awards will take place at school under the Primary COLA from 12:15pm this Friday 1st December.

Library News

Book Club Issue 8 closes this Wednesday (29th November). All orders will be processed after the closing date and will be sent home with students as soon as they arrive at school, normally late the following week. Scholastic encourages parents/carers to place orders via their Loop Ordering System (Loop) but payments can also be made through the school’s office. This is the final issue for 2023.

Principal’s Reading Challenge

Students who completed the challenge this year and achieved platinum status, will receive their platinum award and book prize at the Celebration Assembly this Friday. Beginning at 12.15pm in the COLA, I look forward to formally acknowledging and celebrating our amazing readers for 2023.

Time To Return Books

Borrowing has finished for 2023 and it is now time for all students to return their books. Class teachers will be reminding students with notes sent home to parents/carers as well. Should books remain outstanding at the end of 2023, restrictions will be placed on borrowing for 2024.

Book Fair 2023 Thank You!

A huge thank you to all families for your support of our book fair last week. Our sales exceeded all previous years with every dollar we will now receive as rewards being used in 2024 to purchase new books for students to borrow. I would love to see students coming to me with requests and suggestions for books they would like to see added to the library!
