St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 9 (18th September, 2026)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Learning Journey

Thank you to those parents that visited their child’s classroom during Tuesday’s Learning Journey. The teachers put a lot of effort into preparing the students and the activities, so it’s fantastic when we see so many turn up.

Senior Centre Visit

As you are aware, we have a class roster where the children regularly visit the Senior Centre. This week, the Yr 1/2 class spent time talking and painting with the elderly. If ever we needed confirmation that what we do here at St Mary’s is worthwhile, this comment, heard at the end of the visit from one of the children, sums up what we are trying to achieve.

“Mrs Grant, I felt so happy and my heart was so full, it almost bursted”

Disco

Special mention to all those mums and Dads who have taken the time to prepare for our first Disco tonight. We are all looking forward to a great evening.

Footy Cards

Just a little reminder that unfortunately Footy Cards have to stay home now. The same applies to personal items brought to school: best to keep these at home lest they are lost.

Climate Survey

The Climate Survey closes later today. If you haven’t yet completed it, please do so and you might win the Cafe voucher on offer.

Assembly

Next Friday our Pre-Primary Class will be presenting our end of term assembly. Everyone is invited to come along.

"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings." – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

God Bless,

Special Events

Interschool Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic day of competition, camaraderie and sportsmanship at our recent Interschool Athletics Carnival against Merredin College!

The competition was tightly contested from start to finish, with students from both schools giving it their very best across the track and field events. There were many outstanding performances, with students demonstrating determination, resilience and a wonderful sense of sportsmanship throughout the day. It was fantastic to see students encouraging and supporting one another while embracing the competitive spirit of the carnival.

After a closely fought competition, Merredin College took out the Overall Shield by just 11 points!

A special congratulations to the following students on their outstanding individual achievements:

  • Junior Girl Runner-Up: Tully D
  • Junior Girl Champion: Abigail B
  • Junior Boy Runner-Up: Bayden A
  • Junior Boy Champion: Hunter C
  • Senior Girl Runner-Up: Tahlia G
  • Senior Girl Champion: Ava W

We are incredibly proud of the way all of our students represented St Mary’s. Their enthusiasm, determination and willingness to have a go made for a wonderful day.

A huge thank you to Merredin College for hosting the carnival and to our staff and parent volunteers whose time, energy and support helped make the day possible.

We were also treated to some very special “half-time entertainment”, with St Mary’s and Merredin College coming together to perform a fantastic flash mob! The performance involved all students from Years 1–6 and was a wonderful celebration of friendship, collaboration and community between our two schools.

Congratulations to everyone involved on a terrific carnival!

Musica Viva

The children enjoyed an engaging visit from Musica Viva. They listened attentively and participated enthusiastically throughout the performance.

The students explored music through body percussion, using their hearts, ears, bodies, and imaginations to create and respond to different sounds and rhythms. They particularly enjoyed activities such as Heartbeat and Snake Charmer, where they used their bodies to keep rhythm and express musical patterns.

The children experienced a variety of musical styles and tempos, listening to music that was fast and slow, smooth and energetic, as well as heavy rock and patterned rhythms performed by "Big Boy."

It was wonderful to see the students actively involved, confidently joining in and developing their listening, rhythm, and movement skills through this exciting musical experience.
