From the Acting Principal

This term is certainly flying by and Ann-Marie will be returning in Week 8 after a well deserved break.

NAPLAN

In Week 7 and 8 students will be involved in NAPLAN testing in Numeracy, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy across Years 3 and 5. For the Parents/Caregivers of students in these years please see information sent home and contact me at school if you have any questions.

Assembly

The last Assembly was a huge success and thank you to all Parents/Caregivers who attended showing the value of community. The students who presented and hosted showed bravery, and it was my pleasure to present this years SRC Representatives.

SRC

The SRC are already working hard on initiatives including creating signs to help students in the yard and the planning of a Jump Rope Jump Off next term for the Heart Foundation.

Training and Development

On Monday and Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending Leaders Day in Adelaide and the Numeracy Summit. Much of the content was centred around our new Public Education Strategy. The infographic below shows you the areas of impact. Staff will be exploring the new strategy and considering areas of focus. You will see more about these priorities throughout the year.

A reminder that Tuesday the 12th March is our Pupil Free Day where staff will be taking part in Kimochis training. This knowledge will be used in the classroom to teach students the language of emotions and assist in regulation.

Small Schools Sports Day

The planning of Small Schools Sports Day on Thursday 4th April is underway and all families have received the consent forms. Forms will need to be returned by Friday March 15th. T-Shirts will be coloured in the coming weeks.

Thank you

Thank you to the Wasleys community for welcoming me to your lovely school over my time as Acting Principal. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and wish everyone well for the remainder of the year.

Premiers Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to: Encourage students to read more books and enjoy reading and improve literacy levels.

The Challenge requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September.

How to complete the Challenge?

To complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge students need to read 12 books between Week 1, Term 1 and Week 7 Term 3. Students complete their record sheet, and pass it on to Allison, our Premier’s Reading Challenge coordinator. Students receive an award in late November.

We look forward to seeing students at Wasley's complete the challenge!
