END OF TERM 2

It seems crazy to think that we’re already half way through the school year!

Teachers have been busy writing reports over the last few weeks. It has been a joy to read them; seeing the progress the students have made with their learning and also the genuine care and concern of their teachers. When I’m visiting classes, I see productive learning environments, with students readily undertaking challenging learning tasks. Our central theme this year is ‘resilience and persistence’ and I have noticed students using their resilience to tackle new learning each day.

When you read your child/ren’s reports tonight, make sure you pay close attention to the ‘student learning behaviours’ on the first page, as well as their grades. These ‘tick boxes’ will tell you a lot about how your child works in lessons and may provide catalysts for discussions at home: behaviours that are a source of pride and those that can be worked on and improved next term.

Many parents ask what the grades mean on reports. When a student achieves a ‘C’ grade, it means they have demonstrated that they are competent against the achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum for their year level. In order for students to achieve a ‘B’ grade, they must demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of key concepts, a high level of competence in skills and processes and be able to use these skills in some new contexts. Those students who achieved ‘A’ grades were able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of key concepts, a very high level of competence in skills and processes and were able to apply these skills in new contexts.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child/ren’s report, please do not hesitate to contact their class teacher and/or specialist subject teacher.

STAFFING

Mrs Thomas will be returning next term after taking some family leave over the past few weeks. On behalf of the whole school, I would like to thank Karen Wedge for stepping in and taking the Yr4/5 class in Mrs Thomas’ absence. We were so fortunate that Mrs Wedge was available and willing to take the contract at short notice.

Having been at our school earlier in the year for Adam Claridge and as a relief teacher, Karen was already well known to the students and has fit in with the staff seamlessly. She has continued with the planned curriculum, but has also added her own flair and creativity. She has developed good relationships with the class and genuinely cares for their wellbeing. I sincerely thank her for all the time and effort she has put in to ensuring a positive end to Term 2.

Richard Holt, our IT Manager, is continuing his leave next term. Des Murrin has kindly agreed to continue as IT Manager for next term. Des has also fit in seamlessly with our staff and students and we appreciate his expertise and efficiency.

HOLIDAYS

I hope all the children have a lovely school holiday break and that they enjoy spending time with family and friends. I look forward to seeing their bright, happy faces next term, as we count down to camp!
