Welcome back to what is going to be another exciting term filled with a variety of learning experiences and other significant events. I love Term Three. In the first week, we always join with the other Rockhampton Catholic schools and colleges to celebrate NAIDOC Week with the annual mass. Then the week continues with the three-day gathering of all the Catholic primary schools from the diocese for the Challenge Cup rugby league and netball carnival at St Brendan’s College Yeppoon. The rest of this term sees many opportunities to celebrate a variety of elements of school, including Science Week, Book Week, Catholic Education Week and Literacy and Numeracy Week and the Feast of St Mary of the Cross.
As school life is getting busier and calendars are filling up, we are posting a Weekly Notice of events each Friday as a reminder of the following week’s main highlights. This might help to remind children of any extra items they need for school, family members about an upcoming prayer assembly or if some crazy socks need making or buying over the weekend. Calendars fill up, so the aim is to provide a weekly snapshot of what’s coming up soon. The Weekly Notice will be posted on the Audiri App, so families should receive an app notification.
Next Tuesday, 18 July at 5:30 pm, we invite current and prospective new parents to join us for the Prep 2024 Information Evening in the hall. This is a brief overview of Prep at St Joseph’s Wandal and an opportunity to explore the Prep learning spaces and ask questions. If you have a child for Prep 2024 or know someone who is looking to enrol, this needs to be completed as soon as possible. Prep Enrolment Interviews will be booked at the Information Evening and conducted in the following couple of weeks. All the Rockhampton Catholic Schools will send out Prep 2024 offers on Friday, 18 August.
Seminarian Peter Doherty has been in formation at the Holy Spirit Seminary since 2019, and this year has been spending time in our school visiting classes and sharing reflections at assemblies. You may recall from earlier in the year, Peter presented the school with ‘Joseph’, the teddy bear for our students to care for. On the recommendation from the Rector of the Seminary, it has been recommended that Peter receive Diaconate. Bishop Michael will ordain Peter as a Deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton at St Joseph’s Cathedral on Thursday, 20th July at 11:00 am, all Parishioners are invited to this joyous occasion for Peter and our Diocese.
Have a great week.
Mrs Bernadette Brennan
