Term 3 Week 7 2023

Principal’s Message

SKYHIGH Production

Every student across the school K-6 is involved in the production which is only 2 weeks away! Matinee tickets are still available at https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1091551. Rehearsals have swung into top gear with all classes actively taking part in the preparation for the show. Teachers are distributing the final pieces of organisation to families this week regarding drop off times, holding rooms, costume preparations and any additional notes to their class performances. We look forward to showcasing the fantastic performing arts talents of our students and staff to you all.

Kindergarten 2024 Enrolments

We are currently in the final stages of coordinating our Kindergarten Orientation program for our 2024 incoming students. This orientation involves preschool visits, individual student interviews, parent information sessions and an extensive 3 week orientation program for students. This year we will also be inviting incoming kindergarten students and their families to attend the school for a school site tour with the principal and student leaders. If you have a child, or know of a child, who lives in the Dudley area and has not yet completed an enrolment then please share the link below to complete the online enrolment process. We don’t want any student, or their family, to miss out on this valuable orientation program. https://ehub.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/schoolenrolment/?schoolCode=1778

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion

Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 students who ventured to the National Capital last week on the biannual Canberra trip. All reports from the venues they attended were very positive with our students receiving a high level of praise and acknowledgement for their behaviour, manners, conduct and attention. Huge thanks goes to Mr Horadam, Mrs Sullivan and Miss McPherson for giving up their own time to give the students this wonderful opportunity. Many thanks to parents and families of your support in getting the students prepared for the trip and the early morning drop off and late night pick up.

Attendance

We continue to see general attendance rates of over 90% for the whole school over the last few weeks. This is a great effort, as historical data suggests that this time of year has always seen an attendance slump at Dudley PS. Just a reminder that absences need to be explained as quickly as possible to the school to avoid the unexplained absences appearing on your child’s academic report. A simple response to the text message that is sent out can address this matter promptly.

To maximise a child’s learning and increase their individual potential for success every school day matters.

Read-a-thon

We are thrilled to see the grand total of fundraising money for the Read-a-thon over $13000 now! What an amazing effort from the 105 registered students. The website https://dudleypsreadathon.goraiseit.com.au/hub is still open to get those last minute donations submitted.

The announcement of the prizes will be done at school on Friday 8 September in a special assembly in the Quad starting from 2:30pm. This is also the day of our technical dress rehearsal for SKYHIGH. The highest fundraising students in each grade will receive a prize, along with the highest fundraising class. The highest fundraising student in the school will have the choice of the major prize (either an electric scooter or a summer prize pack). Many thanks to the P&C Fundraising Team for coordinating this spectacularly successful event.

Community Cooperation Callout

We are seeking the support and cooperation of the school community in keeping an eye on the school site of an afternoon, over weekends and throughout school holidays. We have recently experienced a range of anti-social behaviours around the school site including graffiti, rubbish dumping, small fires and the paraphernalia associated with smoking and alcohol. We encourage the community to feel welcome into the school outside of school hours, however we ask people to be vigilant in reporting anti-social behaviours that they have witnessed to the school, police or directly to the NSW Department of Education Security Hotline on 1300 88 00 21.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Crazy Hair Day

Crazy Hair Day

What a crazy day Dudley Public School had on Friday 18th August 2023. Students and staff came to school with their craziest hairdos and helped raise awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis, Australia. We saw wigs, mohawks, spikes, glitter, tinsel and balloons! An awesome, creative effort from everyone.

The school raised a total of $256.70. What a successful and fun day! Thankyou to all staff, students and parents for their wonderful support.

Shave the Date!

A HUGE ‘thank you’ to our amazing parent community for supporting our cake sales this week. The donations were incredible and the students in heaven with the amount of choice available! We were honestly blown away with your generosity. The total amount raised was an unbelievable $750, which completely exceeded all our expectations!

Jared completed the shave at the weekend and is truly rocking the new look. Well done - Jared - you're a star!

As always, if you have any feedback or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at school.

Sky High Snacks Kiosk

At each performance, we will be selling a small range of snacks and drinks which will be available for purchase during the intermission.

If you are available to help with set-up/selling at any of the shows, please let us know via our fundraising email: Dudley.fundraising@gmail.com.

Did you know?

Every year the P&C contributes thousands of dollars to the school to help fund learning resources and equipment. This year we have already contributed over $20,000 and the P&C has pre- approved

the spending of more funds to go on exciting projects such as new lighting for the hall, the school band, and a new solar panel system! This is why our fundraising is so important. Many of the luxuries that our students get to enjoy at DPS wouldn’t be possible without our fundraising and your support.

The sun has been shining on us and the garden is full of plants sprouting seeds ready for spring. A huge thank you to the families who have donated to our wishlist. We've had 2 beautiful lavender plants, some fantastic tea pots and cups. An extra thank you to Amy who not only donated some beautiful cornflower plants and flowers and then stayed around to help us plant them.
