North Programs 2025

North has some exciting programs that will operate in 2025.

The first program is our North S.T.A.R. Program. This program will operate for students in Year 4 to Year 6. The program is designed to enhance the learning of student that are performing highly in English and Mathematics and push them further. All students selected for this program will be placed in this class for the first semester in 2025. Students will need to maintain their performance throughout the semester to maintain their position in the class. We are so pleased to be able to provide a program that is designed to extend our students and see them reaching for the stars.

Our second program that will return to North in 2025 is our own Northern Lights Program. This program operated in 2023 with great success. The program was discontinued in 2024 and the resources were used elsewhere. However the need for this program remains. We are pleased to announce that out Northern Lights Program will return in 2025 and will sit beside our Northern Lights classes and operate with a similar model. Students like the North STAR program will be placed for a semester and then evaluated at the end of Semester 1 to determine the needs of the students for Semester 2.

These two great programs will allow the school to cater more for the needs of our students. We will discuss these programs in more details soon.

Kindergarten Orientation 2025

As the term draws to a close, the school begins to move towards our 2025 new student intake. Our new 2025 Kindergarten will commence their orientation program on Wednesday 30 October, the third week of term 4. After three great sessions, next week will be our final Orientation Program for 2024. We thank Miss Laing for supporting our students during this program.

Additional dates for orientation will be held on:

  • Thursday 21 November (Term 4 Week 6)

We anticipate a much larger Kindergarten in 2025 than this year. We look forward to working with our new students and seeing the progress they make throughout 2025.

Please pass on details to any families that you know who are looking at starting school in 2025. Orientation is an exciting opportunity to begin to learn about 'Big School', so we do not want anyone to miss out on the fun.

Thank You P&C!!

Goulburn North PS would like to thank our amazing P&C for the purchase of amazing Reading and Mathematics Resources.

These resources are valued at roughly $6000 and was made possible through the efforts of the 2024 Fireworks. These resources are being used to support teachers with meeting the needs of the new syllabus.

Also a huge thank you to Mrs Cameron and Ms Caffery for unboxing and setting up the resources in a nice easy way for staff to locate and use then resources in the classroom.

Student Leader Program

Our Student Leadership Program is currently being revised for 2025. The initial outline was shared in the previous edition of the Northern Round Up. The new program will include the following:

  • The formation of a School Parliament, which will increase student voice in school programs and initiatives.
  • Our Ministers will be paired with a staff mentor. The two will be involved with developing the portfolio which will increase opportunities for our students to show leadership qualities and be guided by staff in the various portfolios. The portfolios will be related to staff programs and interested eg. Minister for Sport and Recreation working with Miss Franchi.
  • Students in middle classes will elect Members of Parliament. These members will attend parliament and represent the views of their class. As they did in the former SRC program.
  • Ministers will be provided the opportunity to attend the GRIP Leadership conference in the ACT as a special excursion to broaden their knowledge in student leadership.
  • Ministers will also attend a personal excursion to Parliament House in Canberra to experience what parliaments are like. This has not been done in the past.
  • School Ministers will be inducted at Presentation Day towards the end of Term 4.

New School Leadership Program commencing in 2025!!

The new system will reduce the student leaders from 10 in previous years to 8 from 2025 onwards. This will also assist with the current school enrolment trend. 2025 will be our first year of the new system, we will continue to refine and review the model throughout the year to ensure it is meeting the expectations of the program. This may shape how it will be implemented in 2026. We are excited that our students will get more of a voice in the decision making process at school. We look forward to the official opening of the school parliament in 2025 and hope that you will consider attending this event.

Leadership Roles:

2 x Prime Ministers (school captains)

6 x Ministers of Parliament (prefects)

-        Minister for Junior Affairs

-        Minister for Technology, Communication and Functions

-        Minister for Wellbeing

-        Representative for Abercrombie

-        Representative for Goodradigbee

-        Representative for Wollondilly

Stationery Needs - Term 4

As we move into Term 4, we are changing our current stance on stationery needs of our students. All students will be asked to supply their own basic stationery needs at school. The need for students to take some ownership and responsibility in this area has increased over the years. We are hoping that this sense of ownership over the supply will lead to our students taking great care with their supplies. Part of this plan will be that equipment will be sent home each Friday. This will allow our community to review your children's current equipment levels and resupply as needed.

The school has created this list based on basic Kmart resources. This ensures it is accessible and fairly low in cost. You do have the flexibility of adjusting the brands and exact purchases based on what is available and meets the needs of the list.

The cost of a K-3 stationery supply is roughly $13, whilst a 4-6 stationery supply is slightly higher at around $17.

The school will continue to have a small supply to help with meeting the needs of those student who forget their pencil case or who are unable to purchase the required equipment.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact your child's classroom teacher or team leader.

Weekly Round Ups

Term 4 Week 1

Term 4 commenced on Monday of the first week. We are aware that Term 4 is going to be our final term of learning and we are looking forward to all the wonderful things we have planned this term.

Topaz took advantage of the wet weather. Rather than postponing sport for the week, they brought out the hall hockey equipment and went into the hall for some fun.

Our flexible adjusted duty roster has now provided some opportunities for students to engage with a variety of different programs. The first was the Runner Club. Our group of budding athletes ran down the track outside the school. Improving their health and getting some great exercise at the same time.

Onyx was right back into learning, with some amazing work with angles. They even took advantage of our whiteboard table tops and shared their work with their classmates.

Overall, week 1 was successful and busy. We anticipate that this will continue throughout Term 4.

Term 4 Week 1

Term 4 Week 2

Our champion athlete Eli, made his way to Sydney to compete in state for High Jump. Eli managed an incredible jump of 140cm placing him 5th overall. We are so proud of this amazing Northern Star.

A huge 'Thank you' to all those that donated wonderful and delicious cakes for the 'Day for Daniel' Red Day event at the school canteen. It was a brilliant turn out with many great offerings that our students really enjoyed eating.

Our Northern Lights Travel Training finally paid off. Mr O'Keefe took our NL students to the golf course for some driving practice. Such a wonderful event that all students really appreciated.

World Teachers' Day was at the end of this second week of term. All staff were treated to a pizza lunch and thanked for their efforts at supporting our students at school each and every day. "Hat's off to Teachers!".

The Life Education Van came and visited our school. This was from a grant obtained earlier in the school year. This meant that all students had the opportunity to visit the van at no cost. All students went and behaved wonderfully.

Our students dressed up for in Red for Day for Daniel. Such an important event to raise awareness in this area. Students raised money for the foundation. Diamond and Pearl created a wonderful mural for this day as well.

Finally our senior students ended the week with some Public Speaking. We heard some amazing speeches delivered by students in each of the Stage 3 classes. Well done to all students for 'having a go'. Public Speaking is a challenge at the best of times.

Term 4 Week 2

Term 4 Week 3

Percussion play is installed at North. We thank the P&C for their contributions in this jointly funded project with the school. We will no doubt be hearing all the great music that our students create now for several years to come.

Our small groups got together and made a delicious damper for the first time ever. They even managed to try it with Vegemite and thought it was 'different'. We hope that it wasn't thick like jam when they did this!

The Order of the Eastern Star (OES) organisation haven been busy fundraising throughout the year. They like to donate to local schools each year. This year North was the lucky to school to receive their donation. This will be used to support our school with some amazing resources. Thank you again OES.

Halloween returned and our school got into the spirit with some dress up activities. This ended with the spooky disco under the COLA! Many students also went out into the community for trick or treating. Overall a great day was had by all.

One of our student leaders organised a hand ball competition to end off the week. This was a wonderful experience with many students entering the competition. The winners are featured below.

Term 3 Week 4

Term 4 Week 4

Our fourth week of term was a much quieter week. However this allowed for all classes to continue their focus on weekly learning.

Our Northern Lights spent the week cooking their favourite dessert - Ice Cream. It was delicious and they even managed to mix in some delicious treats into their ice cream.

Kindergarten Orientation continued into its second week. Some of our new students were sensing that school is a long day, with many of our new students feeling the fatigue of a full day. However, they had an amazing time and even enjoyed the opportunity to visit a classroom and see what it was like on the inside. They were amazed by the size of the space in the room!

Term 4 Week 4

Term 4 Week 5

Our fifth week of term has started on a busy way as it was also Remembrance Day. Our student leaders conducted a small remembrance day service that was respectful and touching. We were very impressed by the way our students participated in the event.

The major visit this week was the 'Convoy for Kids'. They brought the wonderful 'Steering the Future' trailer and several other rigs and shared these with our students. It was a massive highlight. The way our students got to sit in the cabin of the rig was awesome! We do apologise to our neighbour on the air horn that was blasted throughout the school day!

Our K-2 students went off to Canberra to watch the Pevan and Sarah Show. This was followed by an amazing trip the National Arboretum. A massive 'Thank You!' to the wonderful team of teachers that went and supported the students on this excursion.

The council recognised the talents of all student leaders from across the region this week. Our School Captains and Vice Captains went to the reception and all received a certificate of appreciate for the work they have done this year in their respective schools.

Week 5 brings about our third Kindergarten Orientation Day Event. The change in times was aligned to the start of the school day. Our junior students even came out and shared first break with the rest of the school for the first time. Such a wonderful experience was had by all.

Our Northern Lights students start their day with some acrobatic tumbling. This is a wonderful way to get rid of some big energy before starting their day. We are developing this further in 2025, with the addition of some big hall equipment to create obstacle courses for our students.

We ended our week with a special assembly where our students dressed as their future profession. This resulted in many amazing thoughts on the future and a visit to North from some previous students.
