Reflection

God our Father, open our eyes to whatever may not be just and right in our own surroundings and in our society. Enable us to be of good influence and work in a non-violent way to promote understanding and better relationships that will lead to justice and peace. Amen.

Greg's Message

Dear Parents and Friends of St Anne’s

At last Wednesday’s Parents and Friends meeting, Julie Campagner from our parish spoke about the 2024 parish picnic. Next year the parish picnic will be held at St Anne’s on Sunday 3 March. Please keep this date free. We will need some volunteers to assist on the day. Further details to be advised.

Breaking news…

Congratulations to all three senior student teams who participated in the First Lego League yesterday. Two of the three teams won their division - an amazing effort given they were competing against students aged up to sixteen years of age! A big “pat on the back” also to our Lego coaches;  Lauren Logue, Lisa Redmond, Una Manicle and Tara Smith for their months of hard work, guiding and teaching the students.

CONDOLENCES

Our prayers and sympathy are extended to Tim Allen and his family. Tim’s father, Brian passed away on Wednesday. May Brian rest in peace.

WHOLE SCHOOL MASS

We are having a whole school mass on Saturday 18 November at 5pm. Some students will be reading and bringing the gifts to the altar. See you there!

COLOUR RUN

The current tally is $12,200. Let’s keep boosting this figure - donations close on November 23. Next week’s newsletter will showcase some of the highlights of the run.

So far we have had an amazing success with our Colour Run and what fun we had today!! There is still time to keep fundraising as you have until 23rd November. This will be the last day for donations and to order your amazing prizes. So keep up the fundraising effort over the weekend and see how far we can go! Thank you to our amazing donors so far. Your contribution really means alot to our wonderful school.

WORKING BEE

Our second working bee is scheduled for Sunday 3 December from 2pm until 4pm. This is the Sunday before our Christmas Carols on Wednesday 6 December. We will be focussing on cleaning/tidying up the school grounds, and some minor repairs on fencing. Please mark this date down in your diary. Thank you.

PARKING

Our community is very aware and dedicated to child safety. Parking signs are linked with pedestrian safety. Please observe the parking signs. Last week a parking officer was booking drivers parked illegally on Beresford St.

SCHOOL FEES

School fees for the 2023 school year are now due to be finalised.  Please see the office to arrange payment.

Lego League 2023

Exciting News from the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Regional Tournament!

We are thrilled to share news of another successful year at the "FIRST LEGO League Challenge" regional tournament. Our teams not only made us proud with their dedicated efforts in preparation and enthusiasm on the competition day but also secured two trophies again this year! The Megamindz team earned the Core Values award, recognizing their enthusiasm, spirit, teamwork, and respect for others. Additionally, Loading.. received the Motivator Award for embracing the culture of FIRST LEGO League through team building, team spirit, and enthusiastic participation.

What adds to the excitement is that both the Megamindz and Loading.. teams have qualified for the National Championships! They have been invited to represent our school at the upcoming championships, scheduled to be held in Tasmania on 16th December.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the outstanding effort and commitment of our team, LegoAddicts, who, although not securing a trophy this time, demonstrated commendable performance throughout the competition.

Our heartfelt congratulations go out to all our teams for their outstanding performances and for proudly representing our school. These achievements stand as a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, coaches, and supporting staff. We are immensely proud of our teams for embodying the core values of the competition and fostering a culture of teamwork, respect, and enthusiasm.

To our parents and school community, we extend an invitation to join us in celebrating these victories. Upstairs classrooms will be open for a FIRST Lego League expo on Friday, 24th Nov, from 3:30 pm, providing an opportunity for families to witness the success of all our teams in action.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year's tournament a success. In particular, I would like to express my gratitude to my fellow coaches, Ms. Manicle and Mrs. Redmond, for their dedication to their teams in the lead-up to the competition. Mrs. Redmond's effort to help team Megamindz salvage their code, which had disappeared with a robot update, deserves special acknowledgment. A shout out also goes to Mrs. Smith, who, although not an official coach, took on the mammoth task of leading all three teams with their innovation projects, including bringing in experts for teams to learn from. Her input and the impact this had on our teams' successes cannot be understated.

Finally, we are seeking expressions of interest from parents who would like to accompany their children to the national championships in a month's time in Tasmanida. With sufficient interest, we can send a team to the national championships—an internationally recognized competition that offers the potential for advancement to the international competition in the USA. If you and your child are interested in being part of this exciting opportunity, please contact Mrs. Logue via email llogue@sannkewe.catholic.edu.au by 24th November. Please consider there will be a cost associated by yourselves in organising airfares and accommodation for you and your child.  Your involvement can make this opportunity a reality for our students.

Thank you,

Mrs Logue, STEM Teacher.
