Northern Round Up

Term 1 Week 10 - 2025

School News

We made it - Thank you

A massive 'Thank you!' for the amazing term of learning at North. We have had to achieve so much in such a small period of time. Our students have returned to school and settled in very quickly and the term has been full of memorable moments.

A huge thank you firstly to the super staff of North. We often refer to the Northern Stars in our social media posts, yet the key players in elevating our students is our dedicated and caring staff. Without these amazing people the students would not be provided with the opportunities we see throughout the term.

We thank our caring community for the support they provide our school with. The donations and time provided to assist in our school events goes a long way. We are so appreciative of the things you contribute to our school.

We also thank the students for their wonderful efforts to rise to the challenges they have been provided with.

So we ask you all to enjoy the Autumn vacation and take the time to recharge your batteries and rest up for another big term of learning in term 2.

Thank you all very much.

Be aware of what emojis your children are using.

Emoji's are becoming more socially accepted these days when communicating. However, have you every really thought out the symbols being used by your children? This interesting article sheds a new light on this emerging area on what to look for and consider.

As we enter the holidays and your children are communicating with their friends online, be aware that these symbols can have double meanings.

The link below will discuss more.

Fireworks Volunteers

The Fireworks is a monumental event that our school has now operated for over 35 years. It is a highlight of the community and allows our school to raise funds that are then re-invested back into the school. This event replaces the need for voluntary contributions that other schools often call for. However, for this event to be a success we need your help.

If you are in a position to donate a small portion of time to support with the running of this event. We ask you to let our Community Liaison Officer Ali Condylios know via email.

Any small portion of time can make a huge difference to the success of the event. We are very thankful for any time you may be able to provide.

Ali Condylios is our Community Liaison Officer (CLO) and works on Tuesdays to support our school and community. She can be contacted at the address above.

School Uniform as a focus in 2025

We are so proud of our school and are keen to maintain our current momentum. We would like to refocus our attention back on the need for our students to wear our uniform each day. The Behaviour Code for Students outlines an expectation that all students will '...meet the school's agreed uniform policy or dress code'.

Our focus will shift in 2025, with a renewed expectation for students to wear their uniform each day. The inclusion of the 'commemorative shirt' will continue in 2025. However the regular uniform that is now purchased from Lowes looks amazing. We want to ensure that the great school of North, is represented through the uniform that all students wear each day.

To assist with this focus, our new 2025, Reward System will be reflected with this focus in 2025. More details below.

School Ministers 2025

Ministers of Parliament 2025

Congratulation to our new 2025 Ministers of Parliament

Our new 2025 Ministers of Parliament as announced at Presentation Day:

  • Prime Ministers and School Captains: Noah R and Noah D
  • Minister for Sport and Recreation: Charlotte G
  • Minister for Technology, Communication and Functions: Mia C
  • Minister for Environment, Lands and Health: Zoe F
  • Minister for Wellbeing: Hamish H
  • Minister for Education: Laurell H
  • Minister for Junior Affairs: Isla B

School Parliament Official Opening

We look forward to the official opening of the '2025 School Parliament'.

In addition to the newly elected ministers, each class at school will elect their own 'Member of Parliament'. These Members of Parliament will be the voice of each class in 2025. Members of Parliament will be able to raise issues of concern and put forward motions at parliament.

Our House Captains will also be involved in Parliament. Each House will have the 'Representative for ????', such as 'Representative for Mulwaree'.

This exciting new initiative will enable our students to have a voice in the school and help shape what students would like to see and be involved in.

Our community will be invited to the official opening of the first Parliament of 2025, around mid-2025.

So, keep a look out for the dates of when this will occur!

Stationery Needs - 2025

As we end the school year and prepare for a new one, our current stationery list will remain in place for 2025.

All students will be asked to supply their own basic stationery needs at school. The need for students to take some ownership and responsibility in this area has increased over the years. We are hoping that this sense of ownership over the supply will lead to our students taking great care with their supplies. Part of this plan will be that equipment will be sent home each Friday. This will allow our community to review your children's current equipment levels and resupply as needed.

The school has created this list based on basic Kmart resources. This ensures it is accessible and fairly low in cost. You do have the flexibility of adjusting the brands and exact purchases based on what is available and meets the needs of the list.

The cost of a K-3 stationery supply is roughly $13, whilst a 4-6 stationery supply is slightly higher at around $17.

The school will continue to have a small supply to help with meeting the needs of those student who forget their pencil case or who are unable to purchase the required equipment.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact your child's classroom teacher or team leader.

Weekly Round Ups

Term 1 Week 6

Week six whilst quieter than most weeks, allowed our Northern Stars to focus on their learning.

We began the week with Shrove Tuesday or as others know it as Pancake Day. Some of our students had the opportunity to make pancakes to experience this event.

Onyx has been super focused this week. They learned about living things and got to create some interesting living things with the play doh. Not only was their work focused this week, but they also had the chance to develop fine motor skills with scissors and work with their buddies in class Fluorite.

Northern Lights used their new kitchen to create pizza bases from scratch and then to make delicious pizzas. They are now master chefs and can take this amazing recipe home to share with their families.

Our week ended with the P&C cooking a BBQ on the Saturday to raise money and sell raffle tickets for the 2025 Fireworks. We hope you can all come and see the wonderful event.

Term 1 Week 6

Term 1 Week 7

Week 7 had another focus on Reading. Our Little Legends continue to read with their buddies in Fluorite. Our Reading Buddies also took place between Sapphire and Amethyst. Our focus on reading is very evident across our school.

The Little Legends of Onyx are also developing their literacy skills with phonics, writing and reading. We are seeing some amazing growth, imagine the levels they will be at when the end of the year comes along.

Northern Lights continue to cook up a storm. Last week was pizza, this week its is nachos. The students all turned their noses up at the 'Mixed Beans' that were mixed into the nachos, yet despite the different ingredient not a bit was left over! They are grating, cooking and slicing with ease. Amazingly the washing up is completed by our seniors without any arguments!!

NL Diamond shared their symbolism with the concrete across the school. They mixed up chalk and mixed it with water to form a paint paste. This was then used to paint Aboriginal symbols on the concrete. Such a wonderful experience that these students are doing even in later weeks to continue this enjoyment.

Term 1 Week 7

Term 1 Week 8

Our busy term continues in Week 8. Our Little Legends in Onyx are putting together awesome patterns with pattern blocks and showing a continuous growing pattern in a sequence.

Northern Lights Diamond have been learning about caring for a fish and this has resulted in the construction of a class fish tank. That tank has been cycling for a while now and is ready for their fish. As part of their Travel Training Program our adventures went to the local pet shop and got their new class pet.

Northern Lights have continued their wonderful programs and this has led to the making of Apple Pies and custard. They created these from scratch and learned how to use healthy ingredients to make a delicious treat. They have also been completing a mini unit on Vikings. They have explored language, history and art of this era.

St. Patrick's Day arrived once again and our school was 'Seen in Green'. We had some much fun learning about this traditional day with the wearing of green.

The week ended with Harmony Day. We started in Green on Monday and ended with Orange on the Friday. We are inclusive and welcoming to all that come to our school. This day highlights the need for acceptance and tolerance of all.

What a busy week we have had.

Term 1 Week 8

Term 1 Week 9

Just when we thought the busy side of Week 8 was gone, along comes week 9.

We started with some community service. Our Ministers went downtown and delivered some fliers for our Term 2 Fireworks Event. We have an exciting new sponsor to share with everyone soon.

Our Table Tennis Tables arrived and we thank our amazing helpers from the Bensley family and Hobden Family. These additions were jointly funded between the school and P&C. They are very solid and will last forever. We cannot wait to share these with our students.

Our Ministers then all bundled up in Bluey and drove to Canberra for the GRIP Leadership conference. The day was wonderful and inspiring. The students have all got some great ideas for the future.

Term 1 Week 9

Term 1 Week 10

Whilst our term is 11 weeks our final week for our Newsletter has arrived. The weather has changed and Autumn has arrived. This was marked by our trees dropping lots of red and brown leaves onto the ground and our students enjoying the chance to throw the leaves and create leave piles to dive into.

Our Northern Lights Diamonds set up their Easter Challenge. This was then distributed around the town for our community to hunt for. Fireworks tickets were on offer to those that found the eggs around town.

Northern Lights also got into the spirit of Easter by creating their amazing hats for the event. We are so proud of their amazing designs that they will share in our parade in Week 11.

The Table Tennis Tables are now in place and ready for use. Our seniors spent their afternoon using the table to test out their hand eye coordination. Perhaps the Minister for Sport will create a fund raiser in Term 2. These are such solid additions to the school and will last a life time. We thank our P&C for these tables and Mr Hobden for helping to put these together.
