Letter from the Principal, Kelli Johnston

Introduction

Dear Families,

First Eucharist – Saturday 17th June

On Saturday afternoon we gathered as a community to celebrate the Year 3/4 students receiving the Sacrament of First Eucharist.  The afternoon was a wonderful celebration. The students presented themselves in a truly outstanding manner.  Their reverence, participation and engagement in the afternoon was indicative of how well prepared and proud the students were to be taking this step in their faith journey.

We sincerely thank Father Thomas and Deacon Peter for their unwavering support and warm welcome, as well as Mrs Marialisa Mandarino REL Leader, the Year 3/4 team, St John the Baptist staff, school families and community for creating such a memorable occasion for our First Eucharist candidates.

Congratulations to all of our First Eucharist candidates.

Prep 2024

We thank all families for submitting their enrolment forms for the 2024 school year. This is an exciting time for families as we start preparations for welcoming our new preps throughout Semester Two.

Letters of acceptance have been sent to all families who have enrolled their child for the 2024. We ask families to return their acceptance offers by this Friday June 23rd 2023. This will allow us to start forward planning early in Term 3.

We ask any families who have not yet submitted their enrolment forms to do so as soon as possible as places are limited.

Semester One Reports

Semester One reports were emailed to families on Friday 16th June.  If you have not received your child/rens reports we ask that you contact the office.  Reports are an opportunity to reflect on student growth and how students are progressing in their learning. Familiarising yourself with your child/rens report is always beneficial prior to attending interviews.

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews

Parent/teacher/student interviews will be held on Tuesday 20th June and Wednesday 21st June.  We encourage all students to attend interviews with their families. The focus of interviews is to celebrate the hard work students have undertaken throughout the semester, as well as the growth they have made as a result of their hard work.

Interviews will be held between:

     Tuesday 20th June 3:30-6:00pm

     Wednesday 21st June 2:00-7:00pm

We ask that families please be aware that school will finish at 1:30pm on Wednesday 21st June.

Families can book their interviews now through SOBS - SOBS Link

A friendly reminder that if you have a PSG for child that this includes your Parent/Teacher Interview. Families who attend a PSG do not book an additional Parent/Teacher Interview.

Instructions can be found at Help Articles

Term 3 Staff Long Service Leave

At the commencement of Term 3 Mrs Deborah Butler will be taking a period of Long Service Leave from Monday 10th July - Friday 4th August.  Prep BM will be well cared for by Mrs Fleur Sabilinski and Mrs Marialisa Mandarino.

Mrs Ursula De Corrado will be taking a period of Long Service Leave from Monday 17th July - Friday 28th July. During this period of leave the wonderful team of SJB will collaboratively support each other during Ursula’s absence.

We wish Ursula and Deborah all the best for their period of leave and travel. Both Ursula and Deborah’s Long Service Leave are an opportunity to enjoy time with family, as well as, relaxation and rejuvenation after many dedicated years to education. We wish Ursula and Deborah fabulous times away and look forward to them returning to school with many wonderful stories of adventure.

360 Feedback

As a newly appointed principal, like all new principals I am in a period of rapid learning and growing. I always thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to learn, grow and improve.  As part of the Principal Induction Program, I will be participating in 360 Feedback.  Some of you through your various industries may have an awareness of 360 feedback or other feedback processes.  The 360 Feedback is an opportunity to receive feedback from a number of stakeholders and their experience in working with the person seeking feedback.  The stakeholders I will be seeking feedback from include School Leaders, staff, external leaders including MACS Leaders and Father Thomas, families and students. Over the coming weeks a number of families and students may receive an email requesting that you complete feedback in your experience of working with me. This feedback is anonymous and then provided collectively in stakeholder groups.  I hope that should you receive an invite that you take the opportunity to provide feedback.  I see the  opportunity to receive feedback as an opportunity to reflect and develop further as a person and professional. If you receive an invite and would like to ask me anything you are very welcome.

Wishing everyone a wonderful final week ahead and all the best for a well deserved Term 2 break!!

Kelli Johnston
