August 2025, Term 3 Week 2

A Message from the Principal

What a fantastic start to Term 3 we’ve had at Plattsburg! Firstly, a big thank you and congratulations to all our Stage 3 students who proudly represented our school in the Newcastle Permanent Maths Competition this week. We are incredibly proud of the effort, persistence and mathematical thinking on display—well done to all involved!

Next week is shaping up to be a massive celebration as we recognise both Education Week and Book Week at Plattsburg. On Wednesday, we are thrilled to invite our community to join us for a fun-filled day of learning and creativity. The day will include:

  • Open Classrooms – come and see the fantastic learning happening across the school,
  • cheeseburger lunch for our students and community,
  • Our much-loved Book Parade – with plenty of colourful characters,
  • And a Junk Sculpture Competition, where imagination takes centre stage.
We’d also like to say a big thank you to all the students who have proudly represented Plattsburg at Gala Days and PSSA events over the past few weeks. Your teamwork, sportsmanship, and pride in our school are always appreciated.

Unfortunately, our Stage 1 League Day was postponed due to weather—this was disappointing for our students who were looking forward to a day of fun and fitness at the Knights Centre of Excellence. We hope to see this exciting opportunity rescheduled soon.

This term continues to be full of opportunities and exciting events. Next Thursday, 7th August, we are supporting Jeans for Genes Day—students are invited to wear jeans and bring a gold coin donation to support vital medical research.

Next week also marks the beginning of cooking lessons for Years 5/6 with Mrs Bull. We are thrilled that all cooking equipment has been generously donated by OzHarvest, helping us provide hands-on, healthy learning experiences for our students.

Looking ahead, our Stage 2 excursion to Glenrock Conservation Park is scheduled for Tuesday, 13th August (Week 4). This promises to be an engaging and memorable outdoor learning experience.

There is always something happening at Plattsburg, and we are proud of the opportunities we can offer our students. As always, if you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Regards,

Dave Hopson

Stage 3 Wellbeing Group

Our Stage 3 Wellbeing Group enjoyed their very first session, and what a fantastic start it was! Students joined Miss Charlotte to make delicious marshmallow balls, sharing lots of smiles and positive conversations along the way. The session was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with one another and spend time with staff members they may not usually work with. Best of all, each student was able to take home a tasty treat – a product of their hard work! We look forward to seeing these sessions continue to build friendships, confidence, and a sense of belonging for our Stage 3 students.

Arriving to Class On Time

A reminder that our Breakfast Club is open every morning from 8:30–8:55am. This is a great opportunity for students to start the day with a healthy meal and connect with friends before school begins.

We encourage all students to make use of this wonderful facility—just remember to be finished and ready to head straight into class for a 9:00am start. It's important that no learning time is lost, and we want all our students to make the most of every moment in the classroom.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students be ready for a successful day of learning.

In The Classroom

SEL Program

Some of our students have been participating in a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program with Miss Chrystie, aimed at building important life skills such as confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Throughout this term, students have focused on developing positive communication and collaboration with one another. They have engaged in a variety of activities including drawing tasks, puzzles, and games, all designed to strengthen their ability to work together and communicate effectively in a supportive and respectful way.
