Principal's News

Dear Families

This week I had the gift of attending the Victorian Association of Catholic Primary School Principals conference in Lorne. The theme ‘Think, Engage, Lead, with Strength' has been captivating, touching and inspiring, with the notion for each of us to continue to move forward in our work with strength. A strong affirmation for the hundreds of principals was our Strength is our Faith and ‘I am strong and full of courage because God is always with me (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV).

There were many significant speakers and truth telling moments. We heard from Saroo Brierley, author of 'A Long Way Home' and followed by the extraordinary movie 'Lion.' He used his own story to challenge us to fully live our journey - the ups and downs, and saying that 'sometimes catching the wrong train, could be exactly what we need.'

Harmony Week - Everyone Belongs

This week is Harmony Week and it is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. We are looking forward to our whole school celebration on Monday. A big shout out to Fleur Koole and Louise Davidge for leading us with our event and to our PFA for your involvement and continued support!

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 and 5 students participated in the NAPLAN testing over the past 10 days, and we could not be prouder of their attitudes and respect for one another during the sessions. Each and every child made an amazing effort and was extremely focused. It was wonderful to see them using the strategies they have been learning in class. The results will tell us how they are progressing. For us the real mark of success is the courtesy they showed and the way they attempted every challenge with confidence and persistence.

Sustainability

Congratulations to the following students who received their badges for the following student sustainability positions today. They have already been very active in their roles, while having the utmost patience waiting for the arrival of their badges - exactly what we like to see!

  • Sustainability Stars: Greta Bateman, Maeve Castles, Estelle Martinelli, Sveya McDonald, Aaron Thomas and Sonny Tropea.
  • ‘i sea, i care’ Ambassadors: Hugo Barnwell, Macy Farelly, Keona Jones, Cynric Raphael, Joseph Shaw, Zeke Solomon-Stephens.

This coming week is the last week of Term 1 and as they say time flies when you’re having fun! A reminder that on Monday we are acknowledging and celebrating Harmony Week (wear orange/cultural costumes) and on Thursday the annual Easter raffle will be drawn after recess at 11.40am. Don’t forget school concludes for the term at 1pm too!

As we begin Holy Week this Sunday, I wish you and your loved ones a time of reflection and renewal this Easter.

Go well 🙂
