ZIG ZAG Public School

Term 3 Week 2

Principals report

Welcome to Term 3

!It’s been a chilly and wet start to Term 3, but all classes have settled in well and are already hard at work engaging with new learning content.

Across the school, students and teachers are continuing to strengthen our Explicit Teaching practices, with a strong focus on embedding our agreed Engagement Norms. These routines ensure every student can focus, participate, and reach their full learning potential.

This term, we’re excited to introduce two new Explicit Teaching routines in Mathematics: Daily Reviews and Problem Solving Reviews, with a particular focus on developing strategies to solve multiplication problems.

Next week, we invite all families to join us for Education Open Day as we celebrate this year’s Education Week theme:🎓 “Ignite Your Potential”

From 12:00pm to 1:00pm, classroom visits will showcase the powerful teaching strategies used daily across the school. We hope you can join us!

Reminders

📌Parent Communication

Strong communication between school and home is a vital part of student success. Please check your child’s Individual Learning Plan to view their current learning goals for Reading Fluency and Sentence Syntax. These are available via the SchoolBytes portal.

🚸 Road Safety

Please, please be mindful of your child’s safety after they leave their teachers from the Walkers Line in the afternoon. Teachers only release students once they see a parent or carer present. Accidents can happen in a split second—let’s all work together to ensure our children are safe.

🚌 Bus Behaviour

We’ve received reports from local bus drivers regarding unsafe behaviour by some ZZPS students while travelling on the bus. This is very disappointing. We are addressing these concerns with students at school and ask that you please reinforce the importance of safe and respectful behaviour during bus travel.

Thank you for your continued support. We have lots of wonderful activities planned throughout this term.

Starting with the commencement of our Puffing Billies - transition to school program, Peer Support Groups and then the 7 lessons from the  Anxiety Project will commence half way through the term.

Let’s make Term 3 a safe, productive, and inspiring term of learning for all!

Whole School Reward

Pyjama Reward Day!

What a cosy and joyful day we had celebrating our whole school’s amazing effort in filling the PAX Good Behaviour Ticket Jar!

Students came dressed in their comfiest PJs, enjoyed a whole school viewing of the Minecraft movie and munched on popcorn as a reward for all their kind, respectful and responsible choices. It was a lovely way to come together on the last day of term and recognise the positive behaviour happening right across Zig Zag!

Zig Zag Public School Football Team

We are so proud!

Our team showed fantastic skill, teamwork and determination in today’s game against Wallerawang Public School. Their commitment to training has really paid off — and it showed on the field!

Great team dynamics, great spirit, and a great game!

Well done team, Zig Zag Public School!

Waste to Art Winners

WASTE 2 ART Community Exhibition & Competition

CONGRATULATIONS ZZPS - AWARDED FIRST PRIZE

This year’s theme was “The Year of Toys”, and our creative Mrs Dudley and all students rose to the challenge with a stunning collaborative piece titled:

‘The Keeper’s Nest: Collected and Connected’

Inspired by the bowerbirds that call our school grounds home, students created a vibrant three-dimensional artwork using discarded toys. Just like bowerbirds, we are collectors — reimagining waste as beauty, and finding connection through creativity and care for the environment. A huge well done to all involved — your teamwork, imagination and sustainability spirit have shone again!

National Tree Day

We rolled up our sleeves, got our hands dirty, and planted a greener future! Our students took part in Planet Ark’s National Schools Tree Day, helping to care for Country by planting native trees and learning how even the smallest actions can make a big impact.

Thank you Lean & Bennett Toyota for sponsoring Schools Tree Day.

Finding Patterns with Number Lines

Our students are having a focus on using number lines to spot and extend patterns in mathematical word problems. Number lines help them see how numbers grow, decrease and predict what comes next.

Puffing Billies

Puffing Billies – First Day Fun!

Our Puffing Billies arrived at Zig Zag today for their very first starting school playgroup session, and what a joyful morning it was!
