Message from Julie

Today brings Term 3 to a close. It has been a busy and rewarding term for students and staff, but the last two weeks have been extra busy at Dernancourt.

On Wednesday September 16, 33 Year 5 and Year 6 students performed in the Primary Schools Festival of Music. They left school at 11:45am and headed to the Entertainment Centre for a rehearsal with students from other South Australian public schools. The rehearsal was followed by the performance at 7:30pm. I was very lucky to be able to support the students, alongside Amy Farquharson for the day. The student’s behaviour at the rehearsal and at the performance was outstanding, and they represented our school well. I felt really lucky to be supporting our students at this event. There were a few tired students the following day, with the performance finishing after 9:30pm. There is a photo below of our performance night. The choir also performed a song from the concert at today’s assembly.

Our biannual colour run was held on Friday September 18, with students fundraising for our school in the lead up to the day. It was really lovely to see many families, including grandparents here for the afternoon to watch everyone be coloured in near perfect weather. Fundraising closes today.  Please keep an eye out on communication channels as to when you are able to support your children to select their prizes. Thank you for your fundraising efforts, we will share the grand total for the fundraising next term. Thank you to Kieran Ryall, the fundraising team and governing council for their efforts. Thanks also to those parents who were able to help on the day.

A reminder that ALL students need to be wearing a hat at breaks. With the weather warming and the UV increasing, hats are required at recess, lunch and when outside. The holidays are a great time to check that your child has a named hat in their bag ready for Term 4.

I wish you all a wonderful school holidays with your families. I hope you all get to spend some time in the sunshine and doing activities that help you to rest and recharge for the term ahead.

SCHOOL VALUES

Values Journey

We are excited to share the next step in our Values journey, with our three logos for Respect, Kindness and Teamwork now finalised. These logos were thoughtfully designed by our students, making this an especially meaningful part of the process. Our work will now continue with valuable input from staff and students as we define what these values look like in action across our school community. As we embed these values, we look forward to seeing them lived each day in the way we learn, work and connect with one another.

AFL 9's

Girls AFL 9's

During week 8 we had 3 teams representing Dernancourt School at the Norwood Cup at Hectorville. We had two year 3/4 teams competing during the day with modified rules and no scoring with focus on participation and fun. Congratulations to nine of our year 3/4 students who won a goal kicking competition and winning themselves each a back pack. Big Congratulations to our year 5/6 girls team who started the day slowly with two defeats before coming home strong to make it all the way to the grand final and finishing Runners up for the day. Crows AFLW player Grace Kelly also attended to speak to the students, sign items and take photos. Please stay tuned for more information regarding a school girls football team expression of interest for term 4. As always big thank you to all our volunteer helpers on the day for coaching, supervising and cheering on our students.

Flag Rugby

Week 10 saw us travel to Banksia Park International High School to compete in a Flag Rugby Carnival held by the NRL. This year we had a total of 41 students attend across year 4-6, with there being two girls' teams and two boys' teams. Our students grew upon their skills that they have developed in our PE lessons throughout the day. As always, we are grateful to have these opportunities which also can't be possible without our parent helpers on the day coaching and supporting our students.
