Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.
This term, our students have had the opportunity to participate in so many extra curricular programs and they have increasingly taken up the challenge, which is so excellent to see. We offer these programs in the hope that students who choose to take part, identify their areas of passion, increase their skills and feel a sense of achievement. Students have excelled in Debating, run races at school Cross Country and Zone competitions with fantastic results, engaged in Maths Games and Olympiad competitions, Ukulele and Dance workshops and so much more! Our students consistently represent our school with so much pride and we regularly receive positive feedback about their engagement, behaviour and performance. Well done Rozelle!
WINTER FLU
Over the past fortnight and as we approach winter, the school has seen an increase in general illness which has impacted both staff and students. At the start of this term, the school organised flu vaccination for staff and pleasingly most took the opportunity to roll up their sleeves. If your child is unwell, they should not attend school. This can help reduce the spread of colds, flu and other viruses. Should your child become unwell at school, the office will phone parents and you will be requested to come and collect them as soon as possible.
SANDSTONE UPGRADE
You will have noticed the scaffolding in the Darling Street playground area increasing over the last few weeks. The Department of Education has commenced an upgrade of the sandstone façade beginning on the right side of the school. They will slowly work their way around the main building and down alongside the play equipment area. The scope of works will include repairing and replacing the sandstone which means measuring each piece, ordering and cutting to size, fixing in place and finally cleaning. As with any construction there will be a period of disruption.
Commencing Monday May 27, the scaffold area will continue to be erected to run alongside Block A, down towards the play equipment covering the entire building. During this time, the access gates nearest to the Darling Street playground will be inaccessible to ensure a safe “drop zone” for students, teachers, and parents. The temporary exclusion zone will be in effect for a maximum of two weeks (May 27 – June 7). Parents and students will need to use the side gates near OSH and the Merton Street gates to access the school grounds.
STAGE THREE DEBATING TEAM
This term our Stage Three Debating Team will compete in a local school’s friendly competition again this year. In total, they will prepare for and compete in six debates. Ms Rolland is working closely with the team as they prepare affirmative and negative arguments. This year, our debaters are being mentored once again by Oliver Misko, a senior student from Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay. Oliver is doing a wonderful job guiding the team and sharing his expertise.
