Drummoyne Public School

Term 2 Week 2 Newsletter - Friday 9 May 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Drummoyne PS Community,

Peer Support Kicks Off

This week, we started our Peer Support program, with our wonderful Year 6 leaders and Year 5 co-leaders running small-group sessions for students in Kindergarten to Year 4 every Wednesday afternoon. Over the term, students will work through a module called Moving Forward, which focuses on building resilience - one of our core school values.

A big thank you to our Stage 3 team for organising the program and for preparing our Year 5 and 6 students so well for their leadership roles. It's fantastic to see our senior students taking the lead and supporting their younger peers in such a meaningful way.

Cross Country Success!

A big thank you to our wonderful Stage 1 team for organising today’s Cross Country Carnival. Despite the gloomy skies, the event ran seamlessly - and thanks to the efficient planning, we were able to get through all the races in record time, with students back at school by 12:30!

It was fantastic to see so many parents join us to cheer on the runners and be part of the fun. Well done to all our students for giving it their best on the track.

Snags, Stalls & Stars

A big shoutout to our P&C, parent, student and ex-student volunteers who fired up the BBQs at last weekend’s election sausage sizzle. Thanks to your hard work (and some hungry voters), they raised over $3000 to support our students.

Huge thanks also to Belle, Tanya and their team for putting together our gorgeous Mother’s Day gift bags. A special thank you to our amazing office staff who ran the Mother’s Day Stall on Thursday and Friday - on top of their already busy days.

These special events don’t happen without parent support. Whether it’s flipping snags, wrapping gifts or helping on a stall, every bit of help counts. So next time the call goes out, please consider putting your hand up - it’s all for our kids and these events and opportunities really do make a big difference to our school and community.

Happy Mother’s Day!

This Sunday, we celebrate the amazing mums, grandmothers and carers in our school community. Thank you for everything you do - from the school drop-offs and packed lunches to cuddles, encouragement and endless support. We hope you feel loved and appreciated this weekend - you truly deserve it!

Regards,

John Nguyen

Peer Support

It was lovely to see students across the school participate in the first session of Peer Support for 2025.

The Stage 3 students worked really hard to prepare the lesson and a lot of the time have gone the extra mile to provide their group with stickers, fidget toys and little prizes. We are very proud of their efforts!

Next week in Peer Support children have an opportunity to discuss their personal qualities and strengths. They will identify their qualities and acknowledge how they contribute to achievement. Through activities children recognise they used their strengths to achieve success and can be encouraged to approach future activities optimistically.  Ask your child to describe their qualities/strengths so you can recognise and acknowledge these.

PBL AWARDS

Principal's Awards and Principal's Badges

Students receive values certificates from their teachers throughout the year for demonstrating our values of Respect, Responsibility & Resilience.

    OFFICE NEWS

Important information if your child travels to school by bus?

From 24 February to 21 March 2025 Transport for NSW will be focusing on school student Opal tap data to help plan better bus services. It’s vital that your child remembers to tap on and tap off their Student or Child/Youth Opal card during this time – and every time they travel by bus.

Why is tapping on and off on the bus important? The use of Opal cards is the primary way bus operators and Transport for NSW analyse demand for bus services. When students don’t use their Opal cards, their trip is not recorded. Therefore, buses may appear underutilised. Tapping on and off provides better data to plan better bus services.

How can you help? Please remind your child to tap on and off and ensure your child has a valid Opal card (either a School or Child/Youth Opal card) and remind them to tap on and tap off on every trip.

To apply for a school Opal card, visit https://transportnsw.info/school-travel-apply.  Students may see onboard bus posters and Busways Community Relation Officers at afternoon loadings.  Together let’s get students into good habits of tapping on and tapping off with their Opal card.
