From the Principal

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

Principal’s Morning Tea

It was an absolute pleasure to spend quality time with the 15 students who have achieved Gold this year. Today, the 15 students were provided with a Principal’s Morning Tea to celebrate their 2023 achievements. I look forward to recognising and celebrating the successes of the next group of students who receive Gold. A second morning tea will be held on Thursday 21st September, followed by more next term.

Kindergarten Orientation

The Jamberoo students and staff are very excited to welcome the Kindergarten students of 2024 to our wonderful school. The three orientation sessions kick off at 2pm and the dates are listed below:

Wednesday 6th September

Wednesday 20th September

Wednesday 11th October

Fathers’ Day Stall

Thank you to the P&C for organising this week’s Fathers’ Day Stall. I’m sure there will be many appreciative dads enjoying their gifts this Sunday and hopefully a well-deserved breakfast in bed.

Debating

On Monday 28th August, the school’s debating team consisting of Nyasa Nakhate, India Binks, Atticus Coffey and Reece Mills, came up against Wollongong Public School in the inter-zone finals of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. The team unfortunately were narrowly beaten in what was a hotly contested debate.

Thank you to Mrs Behl Shanks for the tremendous amount of hard work she put into the debaters, thank you to the parents/carers who have supported the team and a huge well done to Nyasa, India, Atticus and Reece for having such a successful debating year.

Parent/Teacher Communication

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a positive and productive learning environment for all students at Jamberoo Public School, I wanted to address an important aspect of our partnership: communication between teachers and parents regarding student behaviour.

At Jamberoo Public School, we believe that open and constructive communication is vital to the success of our students. We value your input and understand that addressing negative

student behaviour requires a collaborative effort between our dedicated teaching staff and you, our supportive parents and guardians.

We recognise that navigating challenging behaviours can be a concern for both parents and teachers. To ensure a consistent and effective approach, we encourage teachers to engage in proactive and transparent communication with you whenever any behavioural issues arise.

Here's how we aim to foster this communication:

1. Timely Updates: Teachers will promptly inform you if they observe any concerning behaviour. This proactive approach allows us to address issues early on and work together to find appropriate solutions.

2. Sharing Strategies: Teachers will provide guidance on effective strategies to manage negative behaviour and promote positive alternatives at home. This collaborative approach ensures consistency in addressing behaviour expectations.

3. Parent-Teacher Meetings: During these meetings, teachers can provide more in-depth insights into your child's behaviour, discuss any concerns and jointly explore strategies for improvement.

4. Resources: Our school will provide resources and materials that offer insights into understanding and addressing different behaviours. These resources will empower you to effectively support your child's behaviour development.

5. Supportive Environment: We encourage open dialogue where parents and teachers can share their observations and concerns openly. Your insights into your child's behaviour can greatly assist our teachers in tailoring their approaches.

Remember, we are all on the same team when it comes to supporting our students' growth and development. By working together, we can ensure that every child at Jamberoo Public School receives the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding behaviour. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way. Thank you for your continued partnership in creating a positive and nurturing educational environment for our students.

RUOK? Day 2023

RUOK? Day 2023 is Thursday 14 September and is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, are you OK? Leading to starting a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling.

By taking the time for an RUOK? conversation and genuinely listening with an open mind, we can all help the people in our world feel supported and connected. Let the people in your world know you’re here, to really hear, because a conversation can change a life.

The school will be participating in RUOK? Day on Thursday 14th September and appreciate our Jameroo families also taking the time to ask someone, RUOK?

Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey

Over the next few weeks, students in Years 4, 5 & 6 will participate in the Tell Them From Me Survey. The survey is designed by the Department of Education and is completed by thousands of students across the state. The data that is formulated by the survey is used to provide schools with vital information for future planning, strategic directions and to gain an insight into student learning, engagement and wellbeing. A parent opt out note was sent home to Jamberoo families on Monday. Please return the note by Friday 1st September, if you wish for your child/children to NOT participate in the Tell Them From Me student survey.

2024 Enrolments

If you, or anyone else you know, is planning on enrolling a child at Jamberoo Public School next year please get in contact with the school at your earliest convenience to organise enrolment forms.

Regards,

Mr Chris Speirs
