Principal's Message

Welcome Back

Good morning everyone! I hope that as you are reading this, you can look back on a relaxing and enjoyable school holiday break. Although I acknowledge many parents and carers still work through the school holidays, I hope your households were a little more peaceful and laid back without the wrestle of getting children out of bed, dressed with bags packed, lunches done and off to school early in the morning. Perhaps you were even lucky enough to get away for the long weekend for a mini-break. Either way, I am sure the break has done wonders for our students and that they will be ready and raring to go for the final term of 2023. We look forward to seeing them all again bright and early tomorrow.

Digital Devices policy

Many of you would be aware of the NSW Minn’s Government’s commitment earlier this year to ban the use of mobile phones in schools. This new policy was drafted and released last term with the implementation to begin in all NSW Public Schools on Day 1 of Term 4. Under this policy, there are a number of options for schools to select from to meet the Premier’s aim of preventing the use of mobile phones in schools. For our school, our current procedure of ‘Off and Away’ is an acceptable approach under the new policy. This approach has worked very well in our school with those students electing to bring a phone to school respecting the rule that they are switched off and away. We have therefore elected not to make any further changes to our procedure, but please note that students are still expected to switch off and store their phones, smart watches etc before entering school. This new policy has wider implications for High Schools. Those of you with older siblings at Lambton High would have received a lot of information towards the end of Term 3 with respect to their approach, using lockable YONDR pouches. To review our Student Use of Digital Devices and Online Services procedure, please visit the school webisite (click here).  Of course, if you have any questions or would like clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

2024 OOSH Enrolments

Just before the holidays, the Lambton OOSH team advised us that 2024 enrolments for new families open on Monday 9 October. The enrolment form can be found on the OOSH website  https://www.lakemacnewyoosh.com.au/locations/lambton/

for interested families. Please note previous communication about limited spaces due to a number of staffing challenges in the early childhood industry.

Looking forward to seeing the students and hearing of their holiday adventures tomorrow. Have a great week!

Debating News

Congratulations to Acacia who has been selected as a member of the Hunter Debating Team to compete at the Primary School State Debating Championships for three days in November in Sydney. The decision was extremely difficult and only one student per school was selected from many extremely strong debaters, who worked very hard over two trial days at Belair PS.

Best of luck to the Hunter Debating Team and Acacia.

Mrs Malloch (Debating Coordinator)
