Hi all,
I hope everyone got to enjoy the long weekend, surviving the very hot weather, and taking time to relax and recharge!
Tomorrow is the beginning of this year’s NAPLAN testing period. Students in grades 3, 5, 7 and 9 all across the country will be sitting the four NAPLAN tests on various days over the next two weeks. These tests will be conducted online as well as on paper (grade 3 Writing test) and look to measure students’ growth over their school lives. Grade 3 and 5 students will be sitting the Writing test tomorrow, the Reading test on Thursday and the Conventions of Language and Numeracy tests next week. If your child is in grade 3 or 5 and will be absent at any stage across the next two weeks, could you please let their teacher know so that we can accommodate catch up tests.
We are excited to be hosting our first Working Bee of the year this coming Friday, the 15th of March. Our working bee late last year was such a success that we have followed the formula and will be holding it after school from 3:30 to 5:00pm. FOS are kindly providing a BBQ for all of the hard workers! A board has been set up with photographs of the jobs that are to be completed; please feel free to come and put your name to a job in preparation for the day. If you are unable to be here on Friday, you are still able to put your name down for a job and complete it at another time that is more suitable for you.
Our grade 3-6 students will be competing in this year’s MMPS Cross Country Trials next Monday. They will be heading down to Dixon Field in Gisborne to test out their long distant running skills in preparation for the District Cross Country competition being held later in the year. Good luck to all of our runners! If you are able to help out on the day (9:30 – 11:30pm) that would be amazing as we need a minimum of 6 helpers to be help supervise along the course.
We have been made aware that a few cases of impetigo (school sores) have risen in the school community. Parents and carers are advised that students should remain home until appropriate treatment has been commenced and that sores that are on exposed surfaces must be covered with a water-tight dressing.
It has certainly already been a very busy term and it will continue to be all the way up until Easter, if you have any questions at all about events coming up or would just like to touch base regarding something, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
Joe.
