Principal's Report

Dear JPS Community,

Welcoming Mr Kyle to Jamberoo Public School

Our students have noticed a new face around the playground and classrooms over the coming weeks. We would like to warmly welcome Mr Kyle, who will be joining us on a Tuesday and Thursday for the middle of the day.

Mr Kyle will be working alongside staff to support students during class time and in the playground, helping to guide positive play, strengthen friendships and support students in making safe and respectful choices. He will also be assisting with some of our targeted small group activities.

Having additional adult support during break times allows us to provide students with extra guidance in social situations and helps ensure that everyone feels supported, included and safe at school.

We are very pleased to have Mr Kyle as part of our team and look forward to the positive impact he will have across the school.

 Jamberoo Public School P&C Meeting

The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 25 March at 7:00pm at Jamberoo Bowling Club. P&C meetings are a great opportunity for parents and carers to hear about what’s happening at the school, share ideas and be involved in supporting our students and community. All families are warmly welcome to attend, and we would love to see some new faces. We look forward to seeing you there.

NAPLAN

This week our Year 3 and Year 5 students began completing their NAPLAN assessments. Unfortunately, all schools across NSW experienced technical difficulties. As a result, Year 3 and Year 5 tests needed to be run separately, and some students will complete catch-up sessions.

The Numeracy assessment and any remaining catch-up tests will take place on Monday.

Despite the disruptions, students have approached the assessments calmly and positively. They have remained settled and focused, and we are very proud of the way they have tried their best throughout the process.

Junior Tradies

Our Junior Tradies Club has been established as a small, targeted group. In our school, behaviour and wellbeing data indicates that boys have the highest number of wellbeing entries on School Bytes (nearly 6 times as many as girls just this year and for all of 2025). As educators, it is our responsibility to respond to this data with proactive support strategies that build connection, engagement and positive behaviour. Research into student engagement, including findings from the Tell Them From Me survey, shows that boys and girls often engage with school differently and that opportunities involving practical learning, teamwork and positive adult role models can strengthen boys’ sense of belonging and engagement with school. Targeted programs such as this are an approach used by schools to support particular student groups. The program is not about excluding others, but about providing support and positive opportunities for students. Our school continues to offer a wide range of clubs and leadership opportunities across the year so that all students have the chance to participate in activities that interest them.

Jamberoo Journal

Stage 3 girls have been inspired by the HPGE Science magazine and are keen to document school life by creating their own monthly memories magazine. Each student will take on a different role in the production process, from reporters, interviewers and photographers to editors and designers. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, with iPads already out at lunchtime capturing special moments around the school that will feature in future editions. I’m looking forward to seeing how their creativity brings the magazine to life.

ANZAC Day

Jamberoo Community Service

The Jamberoo ANZAC Day Service will be held at 10:30 on Saturday 18 April 2025, the final Saturday of the school holidays. The march will begin at 10:20.

Jamberoo Public School Service

In addition to the community service, our JPS ANZAC Service will be held on Thursday 23 April at 9.15am and will be coordinated by our School Captains and Vice Captains under the guidance of Mrs Dammerel. We are honoured to welcome special guests Terry Stamp and Michael Souter from the RSL, who will join us for this important occasion.

Kiama Community Service

For families who may also wish to attend services on ANZAC Day itself (25 April), the Dawn Service will be held at 5.30am at the Kiama Blowhole. The main march from the Council Chambers on Manning Street begins at 10.30am, and the main service at the Arch at 11.00am. Students are welcome to participate in this march as well.

Kind regards,

Handball 3-6 Sport

Students participated in a Handball Tournament during their sport groups today. Players competed in one-on-one matches, following handball rules, with winners progressing through knockout rounds. The tournament was a fun way for students to practise their skills, enjoy some friendly competition and demonstrate great sportsmanship.

Congratulations to Finn, Leo and Arthur who were deemed the handball champions!

Junior Tradies - BBB Club

Eden – On Thursday we pulled apart the old garden beds and dug up the soil. We learned how to use a hammer and hammer nails into the wood. We also had a challenge where we had to try to get five nails in a straight line with as few marks on the wood as possible. Leo won the challenge for our group.

My favourite part was digging up the soil and pulling the old wooden garden beds apart. The program is fun and it’s a good experience to learn life skills.

Gus – Mr Reed, Mr Kyle and Benny Stewart helped us pull the garden beds apart and showed us how to use the hammers. Jack won our hammer challenge in my group. My favourite part was all of it. I liked the challenge because it was a competition to hammer the nails in properly. We were picking up worms in the garden and we even found a legless lizard!

We think it’s good to learn how to help out and do more things around at home. We also enjoy the conversations and the challenges.

Kindergarten Reading Information Session

At Jamberoo Public School, we know that parents and carers are invaluable partners in supporting their child’s learning. Children achieve the greatest success when the same approaches, language and strategies are used both at school and at home.

To support this partnership, we warmly invite all Kindergarten parents and carers to attend a short information session focused on reading in 2026.

During this half-hour session, we will share what reading looks like in our Kindergarten classrooms and explain the approaches and language we use when teaching reading. Families will also be provided with practical tips and simple strategies that can be used at home to support their child’s developing reading skills.

The session will be presented by Mrs Behl-Shanks, Jamberoo’s Assistant Principal – Curriculum and Instruction, and is designed to help families feel confident in supporting their child’s reading journey.

Session times:

• Tuesday 17 March – 8:30am–9:00am (School Library)

• Thursday 19 March – 2:25pm–2:55pm (Sneaky Room, next to the uniform shop)

All Kindergarten parents and carers are warmly invited to attend.

Please RSVP by Thursday 10 March, indicating which session you are able to attend.

We look forward to partnering with you to support your child’s success in reading. 📚

Sporting Opportunities at Our School

Jamberoo PS is committed to providing students with a range of sporting opportunities throughout the year. Recently, we have shared several opportunities for our stage 3 students to participate in enrichment activities and representative sporting events. Unfortunately, in some cases we have not received enough expressions of interest from students to register a team. Some of the sports that have been recently offered include: AFL, Rugby League, Basketball and Girls League Tag.

These events are fantastic opportunities for students to develop their skills, challenge themselves, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team. Sport also provides valuable experiences such as meeting new friends, trying something new and stepping outside of our comfort zones.

We strongly encourage families to discuss these opportunities with their children and support them in giving new activities a go. Participation not only helps students grow as athletes but also fosters resilience, teamwork and a positive school spirit.

We look forward to seeing more students embracing these opportunities in the future.

Kind regards,

Mrs Lando

Class Spotlight

Wombarra

Kindergarten has been enjoying the story We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. As we explored the story, we learnt that narratives have three important parts, a beginning, a middle and an end. To practice this, we created our own class story called “We’re Going on a Principal Hunt.” During our adventure we searched through different parts of the school including the sandpit, the vegetable garden, the mini forest and the sneaky room. After lots of marching and searching, we finally found Miss Louttit hiding under her desk. The students proudly wore crowns they had made and marched through the school while singing the familiar chant from the story. In mathematics, we have been learning about length and how to compare objects. Students have been practicing the important skill of lining objects up carefully to see which is longer or shorter. In writing, the class is doing a wonderful job learning to record sounds. We have been practicing writing CVC words (three-letter words with a vowel in the middle) and have even started attempting to put these words together to form simple sentences. Last week, students also took home their home readers and have been practicing their blending skills to read new words. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they develop their early reading skills.

Bimbala

What a busy fortnight we’ve had in Bimbala! In Geography, students have been learning about different weather events and exploring how technology can be used to check weather forecasts. A highlight was planning what we would need for camping trips in a range of weather conditions—although some very creative choices of food made us all smile! In English, we have embarked on a persuasive writing project. Students are learning how to plan their writing, organize their thoughts, and structure their arguments effectively. We've had lively debates on topics like “Dogs are better than cats” and “Students should have a three-day weekend.” As the project continues, students are focusing on presenting their most important argument and supporting it with points, evidence, and examples. Our upcoming topic, “Who is your hero?” is sure to bring out some inspiring writing, and I look forward to seeing what our students produce. In Mathematics, our focus this week is on place value. Students have been reading, writing, building, and understanding numbers up to three digits. Using MAB blocks, we’ve had lots of fun building structures to represent given values—for example, “Build a house that is 847.” Well done, Bimbala!

Mr Reed

Library

Welcome to the Library in 2026!

Library lessons will take place for all classes on a Wednesday. Please ensure students bring a library bag on this day to help keep our books safe and in good condition.

We encourage all students to borrow each week during their library lesson and to return their books the following week, supporting regular reading habits both at school and at home.

Reading plays a vital role in a child’s learning and development. It helps build vocabulary, comprehension, imagination, and confidence, while also supporting writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills across all learning areas. Most importantly, reading for enjoyment helps children develop a lifelong love of books and learning.

We’re also looking forward to welcoming our new library monitors and assistants this year, who will play an important role in supporting the library and helping create a positive, welcoming space for all students.

We can’t wait to inspire students to become enthusiastic readers and to enjoy spending time in our library space!

Mrs Green

Garden Club

Our Garden Club is in full swing! Small groups of enthusiastic children have been busy propagating our autumn and winter crops. Recently, we have planted flowers, onions, lettuce, and kale, bringing new life to our garden.

Thanks to a generous donation from the CWA last year, we will begin to repair our school garden beds. To continue this great work, we’re hosting a mini garden bed workshop on Saturday, 14th March, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. We’ll be dismantling old beds, constructing new pine garden beds, and filling them with fresh soil.

If you’re handy with tools and happy to help, please get in touch with the office staff or Mrs Mahoney. We’d love your support in making our garden flourish!
