IMPROVED ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

You will now receive a daily email if your child has an unexplained absence. This will ensure that you are notified promptly if your child has not turned up at school. It will also assist us with our record keeping for absences.

If you receive such an email, you can reply to it, directly. Alternatively, you can ring the school or notify us of an absence via Audiri. To avoid getting an ‘unexplained absence’ email, please notify the school of your child’s absence before 9.30am. [Please note that the department requires us to explain all absences.]

In order to ensure accuracy of communication with parents, we have adjusted some of our other procedures. When a child arrives late, they can no longer just take a yellow card for themselves; these cards are now kept behind the desk and are handed to students by a Front Office staff member. If the Front Office is temporarily unattended, the students will need to wait until Mrs Thiele or Ms Angwin have returned. This is to make sure they are entered correctly in our computer system. If a late child bypasses the Front Office and does not collect a yellow card, their teacher will ask them to go to the Front Office to be recorded accurately.

And, just a reminder: if you are collecting your child/ren early from school, please go to the Front Office first and get a pink card (one for each child). Give the pink card to your child’s teacher: this will let them know that the student has been recorded by the Front Office staff as an ‘early departure’.

From time to time, errors may occur, so we thank you for your patience as we streamline our processes and overcome any teething problems.

ASSEMBLIES – TERM 4

Next term, we will only have two ‘class assemblies’. These will be hosted by the SRC and two or three classes will present at each one. Therefore, we ask that parents not attend these assemblies, as the number of people present would then be greatly increased. Thank you for your consideration.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

This term has been very busy! We’ve had Wheels Day, Science Week, Book Week, PAT testing, the Premier’s Reading Challenge, the Premier’s Be Active Challenge, the Festival of Music choir performance and many class-based activities. Plus, of course, we’ve had swimming all this week for the R-5 students. I know the teachers and SSOs are looking forward to a well-deserved break and I hope the children all have a lovely break too. Term 4 is going to be busy too, so I hope everyone comes back rested and ready for learning!

Festival of Music 2024

On Wednesday 11th September, 9 of our choir students performed on stage at the Adelaide Festival Theatre as part of the Public Primary Schools Festival of Music.

The Primary Schools Festival of Music is an iconic South Australian tradition. We engage our students in artistic excellence, cultural diversity and social inclusion through performance in Music and the Arts.

The Festival of Music concerts feature Year 5 and 6 students singing together in a massed choir of just over 300 students.

This year we commissioned Robyn Habel and Adam Page to compose a set of four songs entitled “State of the Arts”. The audience participation was fun, and something very different.

During the concerts there were several Guest Artists from public primary and secondary schools, other choir items that presented different musical genre, and two pieces that specifically showcased the talents of the orchestra.

This year Festival of Music included the ABBA song ‘Waterloo’, to mark 50 years since ABBA had won Eurovision with that song.

It was a spectacular event that our students enjoyed being a part of. We were very proud to see our students representing our school so well. It was a wonderful experience for all involved.

What's Cooking ........

Last week Ms Richardson and Caro made Dadar Gulung (Indonesian Coconut Pancakes) with the Year 2/3 Class. We mixed pandan extract and coconut milk with the flour and egg to make the pancakes. The coconut mixture was made with palm sugar, pandan extract and shredded coconut. Once everything was cooked we rolled the coconut mixture inside the pancakes. They were delicious!

Hello,

Wow, another term is done—three down, one to go! Where has this year gone? With the end of a term, particularly Term 3, there seems to be a sense of nervousness in the air as the end of the year feels just around the corner. There’s chatter about end-of-year plans, organizing, and ordering supplies for 2025. For parents, this can be an unsettling time because we come to the realization that our children are growing and learning at a rapid pace. For some, it may mean the end of the primary school era, while for others, it may be the beginning of their school journey.

Last week, I went with the Year 6s to a High School Transition Seminar presented by the Schools Ministry Group and hosted by Tanunda Primary. There were a number of local schools present, and it was great to see our young people begin to make connections and meet others who are also going through this time of change. They could see that they weren’t the only ones and started thinking that this next step may not be as big and daunting as some first thought.

When we experience change, it often brings fears, worries, differences, new friends, bigger choices, and challenges. The presenters encouraged the students to face these challenges with an open mind and gave them this golden rule:

“IF YOU CAN’T CHANGE SOMETHING,

YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE HOW YOU THINK ABOUT IT!”

We were asked to consider our limiting beliefs about ourselves. What doubts, negative thoughts, and limits do we put on our abilities? We need to change our fixed mindset to be open to new experiences and have a “can-do” attitude to achieve our goals. Yes, we will face setbacks and knockdowns, but it’s how we bounce forward that matters. We all experience challenges and low points, but how we rise from them and move forward is where our real growth comes from. I truly believe that we are never given more than we can handle.

As I have said before, I want to reiterate that you never have to face these challenges alone. There is always a team around you to support and pick you up when you’re low. The presenters reminded our students of this, and from their comments that day, I know that was a significant takeaway for them. Yes, high school will be daunting; yes, change may bring worries and fears and new beginnings, but we don’t need to face it alone. There are support people—friends, teachers, family—who are on this journey with us. Who is on your team? Do you feel like there’s someone to catch you? I encourage you to reach out and thank those who are on your team.

Our family night on Friday was a great success. The weather was cool but perfect for sitting next to the fire roasting marshmallows. There were lots of smiles, chatter, and the best part—we all left with full bellies! A big shout-out “Thank you” goes to FOG for pulling together such a fun night. We look forward to hosting more of these events in 2025 to bring people together.

Enjoy your holidays, stay safe, and see you next term!

Cheers Jo
