Annual Music Concert

Last Tuesday evening students entertained an appreciative audience at the annual Music Concert. The proceedings were confidently compered by Gemma Barolo and the items reflected the high standards of which Crafers’ students are capable. Thanks must go to the music teachers who work with our students.

The concert opened with the Percussion Ensemble led by Cara Bilstein. Tight and rhythmic, the ensemble played I Don’t Like Homework, I like Eating Hot Dogs, Quartet No.1 and Quartet No. 2. It was interesting to see the variety of implements that can be used for percussion!

The Percussion Ensemble was followed by Zachary Summerton playing Thunderstorm on the piano. Taught by Rachel Seymour, this was a fiery piece that highlighted Zachary’s high capabilities.

Tahlia Williams string students, Liliana Maystrenko, Gracie Walker and Lachie Topham presented a variety of musical styles, the items being well received by the audience.

To conclude the evening’s entertainment the Beginner Band and Concert Band, under the direction of Mark Hudson, presented five pieces: Power Rock, Stadium Rock (Beginner Band) Wellerman, Havana and Sweet Caroline (Concert Band). Members of the band played confidently, accurately and with a sense of fun, reflecting the hard work they are willing to put into their rehearsals.

Overall the concert was a successful showcase of the musical opportunities students have at Crafers Primary School. Much of this success is due to Crafers parents who are willing to support their children’s musical education. The positive comments from parents at the end of the concert were much appreciated.

Festival of Music

On the 19th September 2024, fifteen of our students performed at the Adelaide Festival Theatre as part of the ‘Public Primary Schools Festival of Music’.

Our school was also represented by Lachlan Topham, Isaac Wang, Harvey Petiet, Zara McGregor and Charlie Ness as part of the Festival of Music orchestras. The Crafers Primary School Band was a guest artist on the 18th September. Thanks to Mark Hudson for his work in having the band at a standard to be successful in the auditions. Also to be recognised are the students who auditioned to be soloists and choreography leaders: Zara McGregor, Charlie Perry, Leila Kenyon, Charlotte Wilkinson Gemma Barolo, and Ella Bowen.

On the 10th and 11th September nineteen choir members performed at the Keith Michell Theatre in Port Pirie as part of the regional Festival of Music concerts. Our soloists and choreography leaders were successful in their auditions to be leaders in this concert series. A huge shout out to the four year four students who joined the choir for the first time to experience a lifelong memory.

The Primary Schools Festival of Music is an iconic South Australian tradition, it engages our students in artistic excellence, cultural diversity and social inclusion through performance in Music and the Arts. The Festival of Music concerts feature year five and six students singing together in a massed choir of just over three hundred students. Highlights of this year’s festival were the tribute to ABBA and the commissioned work by Robyn Habel and Adam Page titled ‘State of the Arts’.

The 2024 Festival of Music was a spectacular event in which our students enjoyed participating.

Thanks goes to all who helped make this year’s involvement in the Festival of Music successful.

Making memories children will remember for life!

The Tricky Teens in Room 2

In Room 2 the students have been grappling with the tricky features of teen numbers. Students have mastered writing the digits in the correct order, saying each number in order, representing the numbers with many different materials and even spelling the number names.

To thoroughly understand the teens we say this:

14 is 10 and 4 more
17 is 10 and 7 more

Please enjoy our "Ten and Some More" Clouds!

Fun with Maths Games in Room 1

In Room 1, we love to incorporate games into our day. Games are a great way to work on fluency, encourage social interaction (turn taking, winning, losing), develop oral language skills and to increase engagement in Maths.

Our games we play include:

  • Tenzi
  • Uno
  • Pairs to 10
  • Smallest Biggest Number
  • Zingo
  • Snakes & Ladders

See us busy playing games!
