Plattsburg Public School Newsletter

May 2025, Term 2 Week 4

A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families who attended and supported our Parent Teacher Interviews on Wednesday evening. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect and collaborate around student progress and wellbeing. Your engagement makes a real difference in strengthening the learning partnership between school and home.

Thank you also to the many students and families who consistently wear our full school uniform and arrive on time, ready for learning. Wearing our uniform with pride and being punctual supports a strong school culture and a positive learning environment.

Our classroom and playground wellbeing programs remain a strong focus this term. These initiatives continue to build positive relationships, resilience, and a sense of belonging for all our students. Thank you to our staff for their commitment to supporting student wellbeing across the school day.

We are currently placing a strong focus on school uniform. Our school colours of maroon and yellow represent the identity and pride of Plattsburg Public School. There will be some updates to what is considered acceptable school uniform, and we will be providing clear communication about what items can be purchased through the school and local stores that support our colours.

To support this process, we invite all families to a Community Meeting on Thursday 29th May at 2:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity to hear more about the upcoming uniform changes and provide feedback.

Semester reports will be distributed later this term. Please check this newsletter for updates, links, and important changes related to reporting and school information.

As always, we encourage you to continue communication with our school office and staff as needed. Your support and partnership are greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Dave Hopson

Second Step Social and Emotional Learning Program

We want your child to be as successful as possible at school. Success in school is not just about reading and maths. It is also about knowing how to learn and how to get along with others. We will be using the Second Step program in your child’s classroom to teach these critical skills. The Second Step program teaches skills in the following four areas: 1. Skills for Learning: Students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task, and be assertive when asking for help with schoolwork. 2. Empathy: Students learn to identify and understand their own and other people's feelings. Students also learn how to take another person's perspective and how to show compassion. 3. Emotion Management: Students learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong  feelings, such as anxiety or anger. 4. Problem Solving: Students learn a process for solving problems with others in a positive way.

If you have any questions about the Second Step program, please do not hesitate to contact the school or Miss Jasmine for more information.

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday, Plattsy kids participated in National Simultaneous Storytime at 12pm. Which meant that we read the same book at the same time as over 2 million students across Australia. The book this year was ‘The Truck Cat’ which was a lovely story about a cat who lived with his owner in a truck. Well done to all for being part of such a big event!

Chewing Gum Not Permitted In School

Please be reminded that chewing gum is not permitted at school .We appreciate your support in reinforcing this message at home to help us maintain a clean and respectful learning environment for all.Regards,

Clothing Pool Donations

If your child had a growth spurt and no longer fit into some of their uniforms, you can donate them back to the Clothing Pool. If the uniforms are still in good condition, please drop them into the office anytime.
