Term 4 2025

Principal’s Report

Mrs Chant

Happy last 2 weeks of the 2025 school year! This year has certainly flown by.

Please see below important events for families.

Christmas Concert

On Friday 5th December, we will be holding our Christmas Concert in the Hall during school hours so that all students can attend and participate. In previous years, only about a third of our students were able to attend the evening concert, so this year we are trialling a daytime event to ensure everyone gets the chance to be involved.

P&C Christmas Raffle

Raffle tickets will be on sale in the Year 1 and 2 eating area before school each day next week until the morning bell.

Concert Details

Our Hall will open at 11:00am, with the concert starting at 11:30am and finishing at approximately 12:50pm — perfect timing for second break. To support all of our performers, we kindly ask the audience to remain for the full performance so every student can enjoy the applause and attention they deserve.

Cool Treats

Classroom teachers have organised an ice block treat for their students (for a $1 donation) once they are back in the class, please remind them to bring their $1 along on the day.

After the Concert

Students may be signed out through the office at the end of the concert, or they are very welcome to stay for the remainder of the school day. If signing out, please see your child’s teacher with the sign-out slip before collecting them.

Thank you, and we hope to see you there. Feel free to come dressed in your best Christmas colours.

Year 6 Beaudesert State High School transition days

Our Year 6 students attending Beaudesert State High School are invited to attend a Year 7 transition day on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd December. Students make their own way to and from the school each day. Our Year 6 team will be at the high school supporting students on the Monday and will return to our school for Tuesday. If you have any questions about the high school transition days, please contact the high school.

Week 8 Parade – Lets try again!

The storm this week disrupted our parade on Monday so we will be holding a re-do on Tuesday 2nd December at 10:00am. We are holding this parade in the morning so we can avoid possible storms that usually hit in the afternoon. If your child was receiving their Gold Pin or Gold Certificate at parade this week, they will receive it at this parade.

Year 6 Farewell Parade

Our final parade for the year will be held on Wednesday 3rd December at 2:10pm in the Hall. At this parade our whole school farewells our Year 6 cohort and wish them all the very best for high school. All Year 6 families are very welcome to attend.

Christmas Door decorating competition

Next week we are holding a whole school Christmas Door decorating competition amongst staff and students with the doors being judged on Friday by our P&C.

Families are welcome to walk around our school to see the amazing doors on display in each classroom and get into the festive spirit with us.

Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 9th December we will be holding our Year 3-6 swimming carnival at Beaudesert pool. Students born 2016-2013 will be attending. All other students will have a regular day at school. Students will walk down to the pool with their class teachers and remain at the pool all day. There will be no canteen facilities open on the day so please pack a large lunch, water bottle and hat. Students are welcome to dress up in their house colours, however, please ensure their clothing is sun safe. Sunscreen is also recommended to be brough on the day, however, students will have access to sunscreen on the day. If you do not want your child to participate in the swimming carnival, please let your teacher know by email before the day so suitable arrangements can be made.

Class parties

All classes will hold their end of year parties on Thursday 11th December. Your class teachers will be in touch around what to bring. We have organised special games for students on the oval for a session which will make this day extra fun for all.

Farewell to staff

This year we farewell the following staff: Amy Love, April Wilkie, Sophie Cahill and Sam Kelly. We wish them all the very best on their new adventure either at their new school or on maternity leave.

Back to School Boost

Dear families,

Our school students are eligible to receive the ‘Back to School Boost’ which provides a $100 credit for each primary school student from the start of 2026.  This $100 credit will assist families with school costs during 2026.  A $100 credit will be placed on the account of all students enrolled in Prep to Year 6 from the start of the 2026 school year. At this stage, it is unclear what will happen if you transfer schools throughout the year, however, if this occurs we will certainly help you communicate with your new state school.

Families choose which cost they will use their $100 for throughout the year.  For example, families may apply their 2026 Back to School Boost towards the cost of uniforms, excursions (including swimming), incursions or other extra-curricular activities.

Please note that the Back to School Boost cannot be used for reimbursement of purchases made at external stores, nor can it be provided as a cash payment to families or students.

Great news for all families,

Final Wishes for 2025

I wish all our families a safe and happy Christmas break. I look forward to seeing you all again after the school holidays.

2025 Student Leaders

Thank you and farewell!

This year has been a fun, memorable and amazing time for us as school captains. We have come across many challenges, new experiences and completed them all with pride. As captains this year we have done many jobs including making sure everyone is safe, responsible, and respectful. We have also run important parades, laid a wreath in honour of our school at the dawn service, and helped out anyone at anytime we possibly could. Our favourite highlights of 2025 was definitely camp and social. At these astonishing activities it was a great time to bond with others and take many photos to create life lasting memories. We have had an exciting past couple of years at Beaudesert State School, however its sad to say that our time here is coming to an end.

We also want to say a big thank you to all teachers and staff members who have helped, encouraged and supported us throughout our journey here at primary school. Best wishes to our fellow year sixers good luck for their new chapter of their life at high school. Even though we are going to miss primary school, at the same time we are also excited to move on and have a fresh start at high school.

This next one is to the 2026 year six cohort we hope you have a thrilling year like we did! We know for sure that you will be great leaders and role models of Beaudesert and have no doubt you will put in 100% effort like we did throughout the year.

Goodluck,

Your school captains, Bronte and Claudia

Classroom Reports

Prep

The Preps have had a huge term so far and are preparing for the big transition to Year 1. We have been exploring the school during play times, eating lunch with the Year 1’s and 2’s and helping with transition days for our Preps of 2026. We’ve had swimming lessons, pancake day and a Halloween disco.

In the classroom we are working hard too! In English we are writing descriptive sentences about a fictional character using phonetic spelling, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We are also reading decodable texts with more confidence and fluency. In Maths we are learning about capacity and partitioning numbers to help with our adding, subtracting and equal sharing. In Science we are learning how things move and having lots of fun creating Rube Goldberg Machines.

With the year coming to an end, we are looking forward to celebrating a hugely successful year for our Preps. We also want to send a big thank you to the parents and caregivers of our Preps of 2025 for all your support during the year.

Please enjoy some recent photos of all the fun we have been having!

Disco Dancers

Classroom and Playground Fun

Swimming Lessons

Year 1

In Year 1 this term we have been very busy with lots of fun learning. In English we have been using Pig the Pug books and Bluey books to create our very own dog character to add into the stories. The students have loved being creative, giving their characters funny names and creative fur colours. In Maths students have been learning how to give and follow directions with their peers and also use location vocabulary to describe where objects are. The students enjoyed collecting data and representing the data in graphs. Finding out what ice cream flavour and sport is everyone’s favourite. As the year comes to an end, we are excited to celebrate a wonderful year of growth and achievement for our Year 1 students. We are so proud of all they have accomplished! We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the parents and caregivers of our 2025 Year 1 cohort for your support and partnership throughout the year. Your involvement has played an important role in their success.

Year 2

Year 2 have enjoyed their swimming lessons in Term 4. Students’ have been developing their water confidence and swimming skills whilst having fun at the same time.

In English this term, Year 2 students have been writing a new event for the story ‘The Wishing Kites’. It has been exciting for our Year 2 students to be involved in the co-construction of their success criteria.

In Mathematics, students have enjoyed learning to identify, describe and create transformation instructions.

In Science, students have been learning about Earth’s precious resources and how to conserve them. They have also been observing their class plants growing in different kinds of soil.

In HASS we have created a digital narrative. Following on from last term’s excursion to the Ipswich Railway Museum, this digital presentation focused on how train technologies have changed over time and how these changes affected people’s lives. Our students used the language skills they have learned to describe the passing of time, in conjunction with the media skills of how we can use composition and sound to help tell a narrative using story principles in a digital format.

Enjoy the fun photos as we wrap up an amazing year, and wishing you a Merry Christmas and safe holiday break.

Year 3

What a fantastic and busy few weeks it has been in Year 3! Our students have been diving into exciting new learning across all subjects and showing wonderful curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm.

This term in English, Year 3 students have explored the wonderful world of poetry. Students have been writing their own poems while experimenting with rhythm, rhyme, alliteration and onomatopoeia. They particularly enjoyed creating their own sensory poem about a setting from the narrative Charlotte’s Web.

In Mathematics, students have been working hard across several key concepts this term. They have been building fluency with times tables and learning strategies such as equal groups, arrays, and repeated addition to solve a range of multiplication problems. Students have practised reading simple maps, following directions, and creating their own map of familiar places. The classes also explored 2D and 3D shapes, identifying their features and sorting them based on sides, vertices, and faces. Finally, Year 3 students learned how to recognise and represent fractions as equal parts of a whole.

This term, Science has been a particular highlight for Year 3 students —especially the delicious experiment! Students investigated how heat can be produced and move from one object to another.  To put this into practice, Year 3 made s’mores using a handmade solar oven. It was a tasty and memorable way to connect scientific concepts with real-world experiences.

Year 4

Holy Guacamole here we are, almost at the end of Term 4, the end of 2025 and the end of the Year 4 phase of our Primary School journey!  Congratulations to our Year 4 legends who have worked so hard to get here – woo hoo, what a ride!

Our Year 4 Camp at Currumbin Valley (https://currumbinvalleyeec.eq.edu.au/ ) was of course a highlight for everyone who attended!  The challenges, teamwork, chance to make new friends and the opportunity to connect with, not only our peers, but the Currumbin Staff and of course to nature was awesome and will no doubt hold a special place in our memories of primary school.

Creating the extra chapter (short story) for the Twits text has been hilarious, a little cheeky, and loads of fun – we admit it,  we went a little wild on this one!  Closely connected to this was our Art focus where we had a crazy, creative time, producing our own front and back covers for the Twits books - Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake are so clever (and just a ‘little’ mischievous we think too, which of course we love! 😉)!

In Mathematics we have been challenged by the world of fractions, decimals, multiplication & division – some of these are very tricky topics (of course loved by those ‘maths brains’ amongst us!) and we will need that holiday break for sure!!

Our Science focus - Living Things: Life Cycles & Food Chains was fascinating!  We enjoyed planting our Sunflowers, observing them grow (or not…), most interesting was learning a wide range of new vocabulary, while investigating how groups of living things are connected and how they impact the existence and very survival of one another!

In HASS we explored ‘all things’ mapping: creating, reading and following co-ordinates and of course learning all about the different aspects of a map – we explored our school (actual paper!!) Atlas’s checked out Google earth and looked at Egypt and Brazil in some depth, which was fascinating.

We are not quite done yet though - a reminder that we have our annual Christmas Concert – Week 9, Friday 5th December and our annual Swimming Carnival - Week 10, Tuesday 9th December.

Mrs Myles & Miss Diamond, Miss Wood & Mrs Joseph would like to wish all of our Year 4 students the very best as they prepare for their transition on to Year 5 – we look forward to seeing them all next year and hearing about their experiences throughout 2026!

Have a very merry, safe and wonderful Christmas holiday period making heaps of lovely memories with family and friends everyone!!

The Year 4 Team 😊

Year 5

What a busy and exciting term it has been for our Year 5 students! We have packed so much learning into these past weeks, and we are incredibly proud of the growth, determination and creativity shown by every student.

Here’s a little look back at what our students did in Term 4: In English, students explored the wonderful world of poetry - experimenting with literary devices, crafting and presenting their own imaginative pieces. In Science, we investigated the fascinating ways living things adapt to survive in their environments, making connections between structure, function and survival. Our HASS unit took a deep dive into the characteristics of places and the important interconnections between people, environments and natural processes. Students focused on exploring bushfires, examining how these events shape communities and landscapes. Our understanding was enriched through invaluable visits from the Fire Brigade, Firesticks, and the local council, who shared real-world knowledge about bushfire management in our local area. In Mathematics, students worked hard to strengthen their skills in division, mass and capacity, and collecting and presenting data. They especially enjoyed learning how to create graphs using Excel, adding an important digital skill to their toolkit. A highlight this term was the impressive media artworks students created by combining technology with their HASS learning. Some students role-played news segments and used digital programs to stitch their scenes together, while others crafted air-clay mascots, transformed them into digital posters, built dioramas with accompanying digital storyboards, or produced powerful public service announcements.

Alongside classroom learning, students took part in a variety of special days and school events. We enjoyed a fantastic Halloween dress-up and disco, supported a pancake fundraiser, and saw our Year 6 leadership nomination process take place. Some of our boys were involved in the JC Action Sport Character Development Program, and we strengthened our knowledge of personal safety through Day for Daniel and an accompanying Police Safety Presentation. Students also learned important digital safety messages during the ThinkUKnow online safety session with QPS, and we proudly watched several classmates perform in the Instrumental Showcase.

We can’t believe we are already at the end of the year. The progress each student has made is truly remarkable - they should all be incredibly proud of how far they’ve come. As we wrap up assessments, we’re looking forward to some festive fun with Christmas activities, including preparing for our Christmas concert, and taking time to consolidate all the wonderful learning from throughout the year.

Thank you for a wonderful journey in 2025! We hope you all have a safe and wonderful break over the Christmas and New Year period.

From all the Year 5 teachers.

Year 6

Hi Parents/Carers,

What a year we’ve had! Finishing off this year, we’ve had a few different events!

Social

Last week the students were able to enjoy a fun night with their closest friends, scrubbing up quite nicely, enjoying a scrumptious meal and hilarious entertainment. This event was an opportunity to get dressed up and celebrate their achievements and closing the chapter on primary school. Check out the photo gallery below to see some of the fun from the night.

Japanese Day

On Friday, 28th November, students were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in many aspects of Japanese culture. They took part in a traditional tea ceremony, enjoyed rounds of sumo wrestling and karate, and even had the chance to test their musical and rhythmic skills on Taiko drums. It was a fantastic day that concluded with a tasty bento box for lunch.

Graduation and Transition Day BSHS

Week 9 will be a busy one! We begin with BSHS transition days on Monday and Tuesday. Later in the week we have our farewell parade on Wednesday and our graduation is on Thursday night. The kids are so excited to formally celebrate their achievements with their closest loved ones. We are so thoroughly proud of all of our students and cannot wait to see their growth in many years to come!

We wish all year 6 students a wonderful end to the year, a safe holiday and magnificent transition to high school in 2026!

LOTE - Japanese

This term in Japanese, our classes have been learning more hiragana which is the Japanese writing system. I am really impressed with how well the students know how to read and write them.

We have also been exploring some Japanese sports and games, both traditional and modern. Our Year 5 and 6 students can read and write sentences such as “I play football everyday”. Doraemon has been visiting the classes that have shown the best participation and behaviour during lessons. Congratulations to the following classes so far this term: 4A, 6B, 5A, 5B, 3A, 4/5C and 3/4D.

Doraemon had a lot of fun in 5A – check out the photos below.

Design Technology

Digital Technologies

It has been an exciting and productive term across Digital Technologies, with students from Prep to Year 6 exploring how the digital world works and building the skills they need to use technology confidently and safely.

Prep students have been busy investigating the data all around them. Using iPads and the Seesaw program, they have recorded information, explored personal vs. public data and discussed what information is safe to share online. They have also developed important early digital skills, navigating iPads, searching, and using the keyboard to type, backspace, enter, and add spaces.

In Years 1 and 2, students have focused on representing and processing data. They have explored what data actually is, identified examples in their everyday lives, and practised sorting, organising, and presenting information. A big part of their learning has been understanding the difference between personal and non-personal data and why it’s important to protect information that belongs to them.

Our Year 3 and 4 students have just completed their semester unit by creating their own multimodal PowerPoint presentations. Throughout the term, they explored the many forms data can take; text, numbers, images, audio, and video and how the same information can be represented differently depending on its purpose. Students also investigated how data travels between digital systems, building their confidence in both understanding and using everyday technologies.

Finally, Year 5 and 6 students wrapped up their unit on digital systems through a comprehensive multimodal PowerPoint project. They have developed a strong understanding of how digital systems work together, how data is represented including binary code, and how information is processed and transmitted. This unit has strengthened their ability to use digital systems securely and deepened their understanding of how binary underpins the representation of text, numbers, and images in the digital world.

STEM

Over the past four terms, twelve chosen students that were picked last year participated in STEM, learning how to strategise, create, and construct.

We have built many creations over the thirty-five weeks, some of them being robotics, woodworks, and paper manufactures. In term one, we learnt how to build robotic figures with LEGO, mastered in how to control them and participate in races between each other. We made paper helicopters and frisbees in term two, which is what’s we called Flight. Term three, we were able to all go to a historical museum where it held most of Australia’s history with trains and steam engines, we all enjoyed and valued our time at the Railway Museum very much.

On the last day of term three, nine STEM students and three grade sixes (Jesse, Myah, and Cooper) went to an E-sports competition. We all had been practising for the five weeks before that. Our lovely vice principal Miss Gauld drove us 1 hour to the Marsden State High School to compete. Karla and Myah competed in Crash Team Racing, Poppi and Ella competing in Just Dance, Braxton competing in Brawl Hala, Jessie and Cooper competing in Rocket League and NBA, Harvey competing in FIFA. Our school won the schools cup with the most points even though it was our first time competing in an E-sports competition. Jessie and Harvey both won the best gamers award, with them both coming in the quarter-finals in Rocket League, NBA and FIFA , Braxton and Myah making it to the semi-finals in Brawl Hala and Crash Team Racing, and Ella making it to the grand-finals in Just Dance.

Term four was our last term, and considering we only had five weeks, there was a bunch of fun activities. We worked in teams to save Sir Harley Houndstooth the third, building him huts that weren’t able to survive cyclone Alfred 2.0 and a bridge to get food. On the last week, Mr O’Brien bought us our chosen snacks so we could have a last week party.

I speak for the other eleven STEM students when I say this, we thank you very much for giving us the opportunities of participating in this program and wish for the future STEM kids to have just as much fun as we did!

Jorden
