ROLLERTHON

Thanks to the students and their sponsors for a wonderful morning of rolling and raising. Despite inclement weather, the students in Grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 raised funds of over $1000! This money will go towards reducing the overall costs of the Grade 2 sleep over, Grade 3/4 and 5/6 Camps. Well done to all those who were involved. Thanks to Mrs Salmon for coordinating the day and the staff and volunteers who supported the event with marshalling on a wintery day.

WINTER LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP:

Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 will be competing in the Winter Lightning Premierships at Nhill College on Thursday 15th June. They will compete in football, tee ball and netball departing from Dimboola Primary School at 9:00 and returning by the end of the day. Students will compete against Warracknabeal, Lutheran Combined, St Mary’s Warracknabeal, Kaniva, Nhill St Patrick’s and Nhill College. Students should come prepared for lots of activity on the day ensuring they have plenty of water, snacks and lunch. I suggest that a nice warm jacket may also be a great idea.

Footballers are allowed to wear football boots but should bring runners for travelling on the bus. We thank the Dimboola Football Netball Club for the loan of jumpers for the day of activity. (Coach Mr Sampson)

Netballs will be provided with bibs to be worn for the day and will wear their polo shirts under them. (Coaches Miss Anossovitch and Rebecca Barry)

Tee ballers are to wear school uniform. (Coach Mr Down)

Parents are welcome to attend to watch the sporting day.

The next assembly will showcase the Grade Prep class at 2:45pm This Friday 16th June. It has been wonderful to see many visitors coming to watch the assembly each week.

Congratulations to Tilly Barry, Giselle Clugston, Syd Pilmore, Lucas Williamson,Artie Avery, Roary Hadzig, Edward Schorback and Ryan Williams on being selected to represent the school at the Primary Golf Tournament in Nhill on Tuesday 20th June. I acknowledge the parent volunteers who will assist with supervising the students on the day – Cara Hadzig, Nathan Schorback and Rebecca Barry.

COVID CASES REPORTED:

People may be aware that some positive cases of COVID have been reported at Dimboola Primary School. These are from a variety of classrooms. In an effort to minimize transmission, I encourage people to use good hygiene practices such as washing your hands in warm soapy water, coughing and sneezing into your elbow and to test should you have any symptoms of COVID. For families who have run out of RATs we have plenty in the school office.

We would like to inform you about the release of our new and improved Mobile App for parents, which was launched in term 1, 2023. It is essential that all parents start using the new app instead of the old one for an enhanced user experience.

HAND FOOT AND MOUTH CASES:

Parents and carer are advised that we have recently been made aware of some cases of hand foot and mouth disease in the community. Whilst these cases are not at school, we ask families to be vigilant and monitor for symptoms:

· Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common viral illness that mainly affects children under 10 years old.

· Symptoms include fever, blisters in and around the mouth and on the hands and feet, and a sore throat and mouth.

· The virus is usually spread through contact with the fluid within the blisters, as well as in fluids from the nose, mouth and lungs.

· Symptoms can be treated with paracetamol, rest and staying hydrated.

Hand foot and mouth disease is highly contagious and children should be kept home until all blisters have dried up.

COVID POSITIVE CASES:

It appears as though COVID is starting to raise its head in our community again with a number of cases reported at the secondary college. As such I encourage people to test for COVID if there are symptoms such as a loss of taste, runny nose, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath or fever. Dimboola Primary School has RATs available for families that have run out. Please enquire at the front office. Please continue to utilize good hygiene practices such as

· sanitizing your hands or washing them in warm soapy water before and after eating, after blowing their nose, coughing or sneezing or using the toilet.

· Coughing into your elbow

· Trying to maintain good levels of social distance

· The exclusion period for a positive case remains at 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.

Arriving at school in the mornings

Can Students please be reminded that you are to be at school before the morning bell goes at 8:55am. Classes start at 9:00am

This allows all students to complete their morning routines before the bell goes.

Thank you

CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING AT DIMBOOLA PRIMARY SCHOOL:

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Dimboola Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on the Dimboola Primary School website or available at the front office

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact Greg Sampson, principal.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION PARENT NOTIFICATION:

Student safety at Dimboola Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised at 8:30 am

After school: School grounds are supervised 3:25 pm.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy through the Dimboola Primary School Website or contact the school office. This policy includes Dimboola Primary School’s student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.

SCHOOL TRAFFIC

With school returning it would be a timely reminder to all that:

o Drivers need to give way at school crossings until the pedestrians are well clear of the crossing

o Park in designated spots so as not to create ‘black spots’ for other drivers

o The ‘Kiss and Drop Zone’ at the front of the school is for a quick drop off or pick up.

o Obey the 40kmh speed limits around the school.

o There is a large ‘drop off’ zone in Wimmera Street that has a gate to allow children to walk across the big oval if it is too congested at the front or back of school.

o Bike riders will dismount from their bikes at the front gate (Hindmarsh Street) or the back gate (Church St) and wheel their bikes to the racks.

o Please assist with the education of your child by using the school crossing. Near misses have occurred due to people taking short cuts.

o Bike/scooter riders are to dismount prior to using the school crossings.

BUS PERMISSION NOTES

Bus travelling students will attend a reminder meeting regarding bus travel. Following this, they will be issued with a permission notice which will need to be completed. This outlines rules of bus travel. It is my hope that all children will follow the rules outlined to keep everyone safe travelling to and from school.

Student Enrolment Information Packs

Thank you to those who have already handed back enrolment information. Could you please hand them in to the school office as soon as possible so we can update the records.

Thanks
