Eastlakes Edition

Term 1 Week 9

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

It’s hard to believe that there are only a few days left in this term—where has the time gone? We have accomplished so much in teaching and learning, and already we are looking ahead, planning enthusiastically for Term 2.

Despite the technical issues experienced nationwide, I’m pleased to report that our Year 3 and Year 5 students completed NAPLAN assessments smoothly, with no disruptions. Well done to all involved!

A reminder to our Year 6 families that high school enrolment forms should be completed as soon as possible if you have not yet submitted them. Timely completion helps ensure a smooth transition for our students.

This week, we held our school Cross Country for students aged 8 to 13 as training for the upcoming Zone Athletics Carnival. We have some contenders who have shown great dedication and sportsmanship.

We also enjoyed a wonderful Iftar dinner shared by the whole school community, strengthening our connections and celebrating diversity together. Looking ahead to next week, all students are invited to participate in our Easter Hat Parade—bring your fanciest and most creative hats to join in the fun!

A huge thank you goes to our volunteers who generously support classroom reading and those who deliver our Special Religious Education sessions each week.

Teachers, students, and families have worked collaboratively to develop personalised learning pathway plans as part of our ongoing commitment to Aboriginal Education. This partnership continues to enrich learning and support student’s success.

As we approach the school holidays, I wish everyone a safe, restful, and happy break. To those who celebrate Easter, may you have a very joyful and peaceful Easter.

National Young Leaders Day

The National Young Leaders Day is Australia's largest gathering of young leaders and is an annual event on the calendar of thousands of primary and secondary schools. It provides a unique opportunity for students to gather at world-class event venues to hear some of Australia’s most high profile people share insights from their own leadership journey.

Our school leaders go to this event every year. This year Mrs Taylor and Ms Santopietro accompanied the student leaders to the ICC at Darling Harbour. They had a group photo with Catherine Laga'aia, who will be starring as Moana in a live-action version of the Disney movie.

Mrs Taylor took the opportunity to have a photo with Jay Laga'aia, Catherine's father who you might recognise from Playschool.

Our leaders had a fantastic day listening to interesting speakers, watched short videos, participated in learning exercises, music and student interaction activities.

Professional Learning

Effective professional learning is aligned to system, school and individual performance and development goals. It supports staff to deepen their practice by focusing on sustained evidence- informed approaches resulting in greater impact on student outcomes.
