Term 2 End

As we reach the end of Term 2, I am delighted to reflect on the many accomplishments and exciting events that have shaped our school community over the past 10 weeks. This term has been marked by remarkable achievements, inspiring learning experiences, and strong community spirit.

This morning you have will received your child’s Semester Academic Report Card.  Our students have shown incredible dedication to their studies. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and hard work reflected in their academic progress.

Once again, our extra curricular and excellence programs have been bustling with activity and learning.  I thank our dedicated staff for the time that is put into these programs.  We have had sports events, excursions, incursions, P&C events, community events.  It feels like a never-ending book of adventure when you reflect on just how much happens here at Peachester. Whoever said that small schools are quiet places needs to have a look at our calendar!

We are very excited to announce that Peachester State School has been successful in receiving funding to assist us in our Jinibara Mural project, to feature on the tennis court wall in the coming months. This program is proudly funded and supported by the Sunshine Coast Airport.

Thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and, most importantly, our amazing students for making Term 2 a success. Your hard work and enthusiasm are the heart of our school. We hope you enjoy a restful and safe holiday and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for Term 3 on Monday 8 July, 2024.

Finally, last week we packed up our entire classroom and have been watching the workers pull down our old classroom and completely renovate the inside.   We all can’t wait to see how it will look after the holidays.

Have a safe and restful holiday everyone and see you all next term in the NEW classroom.

Year 3 News

Year 4/5 News

We have made it to the end of semester 1!

The students in 4-5 have put in a huge effort for the last few weeks completing assessments and working on collaborative projects. Well done!

I would like to draw special attention to the improvement that students in 4-5 have made to their reading level.

As a class, students in 4-5 have made a collective improvement in their Lexile level of 825. This is incredible progress and shows how much hard work the students are putting into their reading practice.

For this instalment of the Peachester Newsletter, students from 4-5 have contributed their thoughts on some key events. We hope you enjoy reading them.

P.S.S art project year 4/5

This week the class of year 4/5 made an art project on countries in Europe that are participating in the Euro soccer tournament. Everyone made a poster about a country they pulled out of their wonderful teacher’s hat. There were countries like Slovenia, Germany and Romania. The children made posters which had the country’s flag and title. They also glued on a piece of map and a list of facts. The students also wrote a description page about the country. It worked out very well. All children completed the page and they are now on the class wall.

!ATHLETICS DAY!

Yesterday, Peachester State School travelled on bus to Skippy Park for athletics day. After Peachester State School had arrived at Skippy Park, we all gathered under the Coochin and Stanley marquees. Before we had started any events or races, we had to go over what the teachers expected from us. After that the P.E. teacher, Mr Hugget told all the students what the events were. When he was finished all the students went off to their groups. The events were sprints, 800 meter race, 200 meter race, high jump, long jump, shotput and discus. It was very fun. When everyone had done the events, the bus arrived and we all went back to the school to wait for our parents.

Traditional Story Presentations

Last week our class finished our traditional stories and then we presented them.  Some were very funny and some were more serious, but all were entertaining. They all contained a moral and were designed to be told to a younger audience. It was very fun to write and present them.  Lots of people did funny voices and it was very entertaining. All the class presented their wonderful stories. Lucian’s was very funny because of the hilarious voices he did.

The NRL Gala Day

This term we had our NRL Gala Day. We competed against Kilcoy, Glasshouse Mountains and Mount Kilcoy. It was fun because some people got to tackle without getting in trouble. We got some tries and we all did really well. It was lots of fun and everyone showed great sportsmanship.

😊The Science Experiment (ochre)😊

Last week we finished our science experiment. It was fun but challenging. We had to choose if we were testing whether ochre smudged or was water resistant. We mixed ochre with some common items. These were oil, pva glue, egg and water. The smudge test was easy but hard at the same time. The hard part of the test preparation was that the mixture was rough and made it hard to smudge. The easy bit was mixing it because it was smooth. We had to smudge the water, egg yolk, PVA glue and oil ochre mix. Our group found that the pva ochre mix was the most smudge resistant.

This would make it the suitable for painting.

Student Leadership Day

On the 18th of June all of the school and sports captains went to a VIRB program at Kilcoy State School. It was very educational day and we learnt all about being a curious leader who doesn’t judge a book by its cover. It taught us how to be courageous leaders and support other students through rough times. We learnt how to help students when they cross a challenge such as friendship problems and fights. We also learnt we can change things to how we see fit and there are always improvements to make. All together it was an amazing day and we learnt a lot from it.

Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday, the 19th of June, Peachester State School classes went to Skippy Park, Landsborough for their 2024 athletics carnival. Coochin team and Stanley team competed against each other in different athletic events to achieve points for their team. It was a fantastic day and the events were engaging yet challenging. Several students got personal bests on the day.

Ashlee

Stanley Captains- It was really fun and exciting being a captain on the athletics carnival, Stanley did a great job and won lots of ribbons. Stanley cheered really loud and well for their friends and won the loudest war cry a couple times. We had a ton of fun and we wish we could be captains for ever.

Ryder and Zayden

Coochin Captains - Coochin did really well and won the loudest war cry twice and won the tidiest house once. Everyone did very well in competing and trying there hardest at events. It was a fun experience, and everyone did well. We would do it again and would stay a captain for ever if we could.

Fanfare

On the 21st May the Peachester State School band went to Chancellor State College, and we played our 3 songs, Midnight Madness, Zombie Dance and Midnight Sky. We got a bronze award. There were 3 different concert bands including us, several string bands, with the Recorder band taking 1st place. Well done to Peachester State School for getting a bronze award.

Art Clay Figurine’s

The whole year 5/6 class made clay figurines. We made amazing things such as dogs, horses, bears, fishes and a lioness. To make our clay figurines we had to make pinch pots and we added texture to our spirit animals. After that, we had to paint them. It was hard to make the paint not smudge but also fun. We had to layer the paint on them because the colour was too light, in the end some tails and legs came off, but they all looked fantastic.   Thank you to Miss Katrina and Miss Jo for teaching us some new skills.

Molly

Makenzie – My sculpture was great, but I wish I had put more effort into the painting.

Ryder – My sculpture was a green chameleon, I really liked its goofy eyes and the jersey it was wearing.

Jack – I think making the clay sculptures was fun.

Peytonn - I made a cow and the thing I liked about it was that it had a little footy on it.

Zoe – I made a highland cow as my sculpture, I really liked how I got to make my own clay sculpture. I had a great time.

Ashlee – I got to make an interesting animal that was mixed with quite a lot of different things (Dog, cat, bear. etc). My animal was inspired by a bagel and the variety of colours represent different character traits of my own.

Zailey – I made a giraffe and the thing I liked about it was that it came out good.

Beau – I made a monkey and the things I liked about it were that it was fun and my monkey was the best.

Issy – I think it was really fun to plan, sculpt and paint the sculpture.

Liam - I thought making the clay sculptures was really fun and I liked the way my eagle turned out.

Carys – I made a horse clay sculpture, I think it turned out really well and had lots of fun sculpting and painting my horse.

K-diss – I really like the boxing gloves, the cut on the eyebrow and the black eye. My colours were red brown and black.

Celine – I made a dog sculpture, it was cute and it was sitting down and was wearing headphones. I loved painting my sculpture, the hard part was the pinch pot it was hard to shape.

Connor – I loved making the art it was fun but difficult at the same time. I like how the head turned out on my echidna and the colour looked good on it.

Indigo – I made a horse with a jump and netball, it was hard getting the shape of a horse.

Olive – I made a dog sculpture because I love dogs, I also made it blue because it's my favourite colour.

Eliana - I made a dog sculpture that was wearing a tutu and had a pencil in its mouth. Its body was blue because I like swimming.

Zayden – It was cool and hard. The colour was brown and black and suits my rottweiler.

Merindi – I liked how it didn’t end up as I wanted but I still tried. I like how all the colours turned out and how it feels.
