The Millsy Flyer

Monday 18th November 2024 Term 4 Week 6

From the Principal

Student Success:

Congratulations to Liam Blair who will receive a Hunter PSSA Blues award for his success in swimming this year. Well done, Liam – we look forward to seeing you in the Olympics in the future! The students had a wonderful time at our P &C disco last week. A big thank you to the teachers and parents for supporting the event.

Bandfest:

Our band program is only three years old, but the band came away with a fantastic second place at the recent Bandfest competition, tying with The Junction PS. This is an amazing achievement for our band! Congratulations to Ms Moon and the students!

2W Writing:

This week, I have included some writing from our 2W students in the newsletter. Their descriptions of waves used such great metaphors and personification that they had to be shared! Well done, 2W!

“The waves are like a monster that I can’t defeat, my heart races as I hear the rumble and roar of the ocean.” - Ivy

“The powerful waves make me feel like the crowd going wild for the Knights at a football game and the players bashing, crashing and smashing.” - Nate

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: School Development Days 2025

The Department of Education has made changes to School Development Days for 2025.

In Term 1, there will be four School Development Days:

Friday 31 January – Wednesday 5 February. This means that students will return to school on Thursday 6 February.

In Term 2, there will be two School Development Days:

Monday 28 April – Tuesday 29 April. This means that students will return to school on Wednesday 30 April.

Brospeak/ SistaSpeak:

Our Stage 2 and 3 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders students are participating in Sistaspeak and Brospeak this term with other students from our local community of schools. The students are really enjoying the sessions, and it is a great opportunity for them to connect with each other.

School Service Assembly:

Our final assembly for the year will be held on Wednesday 4th December at 1:55pm. At this assembly, we will present certificates to our Gold Award winners, Platinum awards for the Principal’s Reading Challenge and attendance awards. We will also recognise our outgoing House Captains, Junior AECG, and librarians for their service to the school. Parents are welcome to attend.

Stage 3 Bathurst:

Best wishes to our Stage 3 students who will be traveling to Bathurst this week for their excursion. We look forward to hearing about the fun you have had when you return.

Wellbeing Wednesday:

For the next few weeks we will be trialling a new idea each Wednesday called wellbeing Wednesday. On this day, students will be able to play in any part of the primary or K – 2 playground for the second half of lunch. We are looking forward to our students mixing right across the school and being able to have the older students model behaviour and mentor the younger students. On this day, Stage 3 students will also check in online in our new Pulse portal so teachers can reach out to them if they need help or support in any way. Attached is a video explaining the new system and how it works.

We will be holding an afternoon tea for all of our volunteers in the school this year to say thank you for your contribution to our school. It will be held at 1:30pm on Friday 29 November. An invitation will be sent home this week. I look forward to seeing you there.

Book Club Issue 8

Book Club Issue 8 closes this Wednesday (27th November).

All orders will be processed after the closing date and will be sent home with students as soon as they arrive at school, normally late the following week. Scholastic encourages parents/carers to place orders via their Loop Ordering System (Loop) but payments can also be made through the school’s office.

At this stage, we are still waiting for Issue 7 orders to arrive. They will be sent home with students the day they arrive at school.
