WELCOME BACK:

I trust that families had a restful and relaxing holiday period. This term promises to be an exciting time with events occurring including the Grade 5/6 camp to Melbourne starting from the 8th August, WWSSA Athletics in Warracknabeal on the 17th of August and Teacher Student Parent interviews happening on Tuesday 5th September (please note that students do not attend school on this day apart from when they have their interview).

WELCOME TO JULIA

We welcome Julia to the Grade 5/6 class today. We trust that Julia makes a smooth transition to Dimboola Primary as a new student in Grade 6.

NEW SCHOOL VALUES:

Commencing this term, we will be adopting new school values. These have been established thanks to extensive work by Mrs Lees who took into account student’s perceptions of what values they deemed most important. Following this consultation, Mrs Lees surveyed parents/carers to determine the level of alignment with students’ perceptions. The new school values are:

Our new school values - Staff also wanted to recognize academic achievement in student learning and present these at assembly

HAND FOOT AND MOUTH CASES:

Parents and carer are advised that we have recently been made aware of some cases of hand foot and mouth disease in the community. Whilst these cases are not at school, we ask families to be vigilant and monitor for symptoms:

· Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common viral illness that mainly affects children under 10 years old.

· Symptoms include fever, blisters in and around the mouth and on the hands and feet, and a sore throat and mouth.

· The virus is usually spread through contact with the fluid within the blisters, as well as in fluids from the nose, mouth and lungs.

· Symptoms can be treated with paracetamol, rest and staying hydrated.

Hand foot and mouth disease is highly contagious and children should be kept home until all blisters have dried up.

COVID POSITIVE CASES:

It appears as though COVID is starting to raise its head in our community again with a number of cases reported at the secondary college. As such I encourage people to test for COVID if there are symptoms such as a loss of taste, runny nose, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath or fever. Dimboola Primary School has RATs available for families that have run out. Please enquire at the front office. Please continue to utilize good hygiene practices such as

· sanitizing your hands or washing them in warm soapy water before and after eating, after blowing their nose, coughing or sneezing or using the toilet.

· Coughing into your elbow

· Trying to maintain good levels of social distance

· The exclusion period for a positive case remains at 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.

Arriving at school in the mornings

Can Students please be reminded that you are to be at school before the morning bell goes at 8:55am. Classes start at 9:00am

This allows all students to complete their morning routines before the bell goes.

Thank you

CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING AT DIMBOOLA PRIMARY SCHOOL:

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Dimboola Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on the Dimboola Primary School website or available at the front office

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact Greg Sampson, principal.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION PARENT NOTIFICATION:

Student safety at Dimboola Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised at 8:30 am

After school: School grounds are supervised 3:25 pm.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy through the Dimboola Primary School Website or contact the school office. This policy includes Dimboola Primary School’s student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.

SCHOOL TRAFFIC

With school returning it would be a timely reminder to all that:

o Drivers need to give way at school crossings until the pedestrians are well clear of the crossing

o Park in designated spots so as not to create ‘black spots’ for other drivers

o The ‘Kiss and Drop Zone’ at the front of the school is for a quick drop off or pick up.

o Obey the 40kmh speed limits around the school.

o There is a large ‘drop off’ zone in Wimmera Street that has a gate to allow children to walk across the big oval if it is too congested at the front or back of school.

o Bike riders will dismount from their bikes at the front gate (Hindmarsh Street) or the back gate (Church St) and wheel their bikes to the racks.

o Please assist with the education of your child by using the school crossing. Near misses have occurred due to people taking short cuts.

o Bike/scooter riders are to dismount prior to using the school crossings.

BUS PERMISSION NOTES

Bus travelling students will attend a reminder meeting regarding bus travel. Following this, they will be issued with a permission notice which will need to be completed. This outlines rules of bus travel. It is my hope that all children will follow the rules outlined to keep everyone safe travelling to and from school.

Student Enrolment Information Packs

Thank you to those who have already handed back enrolment information. Could you please hand them in to the school office as soon as possible so we can update the records.

Thanks

German

This term in German, the Grade 4/5 and 5/6 classes will be focusing more on a cultural element, where they will learn more about Germany and the lives of people living in Germany. To start the term, students have written down what they know about Germany (which isnt much!) and completed a multiple choice Germany quiz. They have been introduced to the names of the larger cities in Germany as well as being able to look at, and hold, Euro coins- the currency of Germany. Here are some photos of some students studying the coins and looking at images on the coins. In a lot of cases, students spontaneously sorted the coins by colour and size as they compared the Euro coins to Australian coins.
