Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 11 Term 1 Caves Beach Public School for 2025

Celebration Assembly Special Guest

Our Term 1 Celebration Assembly will take place this Thursday at 9.40am. On this day we will celebrate and congratulate students on their achievements throughout this term. This term we have a very special guest speaker, Lauren Parker an Australian para-triathlete and para-cyclist, who we are proud to say is also an ex-Caves Beach student!  We invite all family and friends of students to come and join in this special event.

Parent Teacher Interviews

I would like to extend our thanks to all the parents and carers who attended our recent parent-teacher interviews. Your involvement is invaluable to the educational journey of your child and plays a crucial role in their success at school.

Parent-teacher interviews provide a wonderful opportunity for you to engage with our dedicated teaching staff and discuss your child's progress, strengths, and areas for growth. These conversations are essential as they foster a collaborative approach to your child’s education, ensuring that we are all working together to support their learning and development.

Your insights and feedback during these meetings help us tailor our teaching strategies to better meet the needs of each student. It is through this partnership that we can create a more effective learning environment, where every child can thrive.

Make My Day

Last week I was invited into 3/4B to see some awesome writing. Eleven amazing students were showcasing their work. I read each student’s report on the Birth of a Star. How interesting and informative they were, with each child covering a variety of topics. Great job 3/4B, you are a truly talented class!

Art Club

Mila 5/6R and Emily 4T have been working on some projects in Art Club. Last week they brought their completed artworks to show me. What a great job girls!  They have used different media and amazing colours to create something unique and special. You are stars!

Real Schools

Building Emotional Awareness Through Affective Language

At school, we are focusing on affective language—a way of communicating that helps children understand emotions, take responsibility for their actions, and strengthen relationships. Instead of just telling students what to do, we express how their actions impact others.

For example:

🔹 "Watching you help your friends makes me proud because it shows kindness."

🔹 "I feel frustrated when I see rubbish on the ground because we all share this space."

🔹 "I am grateful to see you working together to complete that maths problem because it shows teamwork."

This approach encourages students to think beyond rules and consequences, helping them develop empathy and self-awareness.

At home, small changes in language can have a big impact:

🔹 "I am really impressed at how you tried your best at that task because it shows determination."

🔹 "Not knowing where you are makes me worried because I want to know you're safe."

Using affective language at home and school helps children connect emotions to their actions, creating a more thoughtful and caring environment.

Anzac Day

As Anzac Day falls in the school holidays this year, we will be holding our school Anzac Ceremony this Wednesday 9th April. On Anzac Day we invite all students to participate in the Swansea RSL commemorative march and service. We ask that students participating in the march meet Caves Beach staff and the student leadership team at the front of McDonald’s ready for an 11am start. Students are to come in full school uniform including a school hat. Parents will be able to meet their children at Swansea RSL Club at the end of the march or after the short memorial service which takes place at the front of the RSL Club.

Cross Country

Last Thursday we held a very successful, school cross country event. Students should be commended for their participation and effort. All participants should be proud of their efforts.

Holidays

I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work that has been completed this term. I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 2 after we all have a very well-earned holiday. Please have a fun relaxing holiday and stay safe. For students Term 2 commences on Wednesday 30th April 2025.

Class of the Week

1/2H

What a fantastic term it has been for 1/2H! Our class has worked hard in every subject, showing great enthusiasm for learning. We’ve enjoyed exploring new concepts and creating amazing artwork to showcase our creativity. A highlight of the term was celebrating Harmony Day, where we embraced diversity and learned about different cultures. The class also took pride in running the assembly, where they performed the iconic Australian song Waltzing Matilda. Their performance was fantastic, and they did a wonderful job leading the school in such a memorable way. Well done, 1/2H! Enjoy the holidays!

2M

2M Easter Hat Making Fun!!!

Excitement filled our classroom last week as we got creative making Easter hats for the big Easter Hat Parade! Glitter, ribbons, and bunny ears were everywhere as we designed our festive masterpieces. Our amazing buddies from 4B joined in to help us bring our hat ideas to life! Their teamwork and creativity made the experience even more special. On parade day, we will proudly show off our colourful hats to cheers and smiles all around. It will be an egg-citing celebration of Easter spirit, fun, and friendship! Hoppy Easter, everyone! 🐰🎩🌸

Harmony Day

Today, our school came together to celebrate Harmony Day, embracing the diversity that makes our world so special! Each class chose a country to research, learning about its culture, traditions and history. From vibrant art to delicious foods and fascinating facts, our students explored the beauty of different cultures while celebrating inclusivity and respect.

It was a fantastic day of learning, fun and unity!

Grow Your Mind

As life continues to change around us, we need to be adaptable and remain optimistic. To help us maintain a positive outlook, it is important to use our Grow Your Mind animals.

This week is the OCTOPUS who helps us understand about feelings and emotions. To do this we need to learn about our own feelings and how to be sensitive towards our friends and family.

Mrs Bec Searles - Learning Support Teacher

I have been a permanent teacher at Caves Beach since 2010! It’s a beautiful place to work and I especially love the incredible students I have had the privilege of teaching. I have a Master's Degree in Literacy Education and am especially passionate about inspiring students to develop a lifelong love of reading.

I have three beautiful children, Poppy (13), Sammy (10) and Maisy (7). I love spending time with my family, camping, beaching, gardening, travelling and, of course, reading! My family and I have recently come back from a month in Japan where we had the best time.
