Binalong Bulletin

Term 1, Week 4 2024

From the Principal

The weeks continue to fly by this term. We have been enjoying the warm weather and encourage students to bring their hat each day. As the mornings become a little cooler, we often find misplaced clothing by the end of the day. So we can return your child's belongings, please ensure that their name is clearly labelled.

NAPLAN for students in Years 3 and 5 begins this week. Please help your child prepare for the tests by having a good night's sleep, a good breakfast and some encouraging words. We ask that you have your child at school on these days and avoid making any appointments etc during the testing times. Please see the timetable below.

Welcome Back BBQ and Class Information Sessions

On Tuesday 5th March we held our annual Welcome BBQ. We appreciate families being flexible with the date change. It was great to see many of our families attending their class information discussions. Thank you to Kathy Dawes for running an information session about the Before and After School Care program, and to Mathew Arabin for cooking a delicious BBQ dinner. Once again, if you have any questions, concerns or would like to be involved in daily classroom happenings, please speak with your child's teacher.

PLC Day at Wee Jasper

On Thursday 7th March all students enjoyed a visit to Wee Jasper Primary School for our first PLC day of 2024.

Wee Jasper planned a fun filled day for all students, with three fantastic workshops for them to participate in. Students rotated through a boating safety workshop, STEM challenge & NRL training clinic. It was great to see children building connections with new faces from our network of small schools and enjoying the range of activities organised. Thank you Ms Andrews & the staffing team at Wee Jasper for a great day!

Parent Online Payment (POP) Shutdown

The Department of Education is decommissioning EBS (software used to receipt payments among other functions) for all NSW Schools.  As part of this process the Department will shut down POP on our school website on Tuesday 12 March.  This means parents and carers will not be able to make any online payments whilst we transition to Sentral Finance.  Further information will be sent home soon.

Moving into Year 7 in 2025

The Department has digitised the Year 6 to Year 7 transition process.  Parents and carers should go online to complete the Expression of Interest (EOI).  If a paper copy is preferred, please see Kerry in the Office (these should be returned by no later than Thursday 28 March 2024).

The link for the online EOI can be found on our school website under the Enrolment tab, "Moving to high school" -

Boyz Crew

Well done to William Deale and Thomas Goltz who were accepted into the Boyz Crew Hip Hop Troupe. They travelled to Bradfordville PS last Monday and learnt some hip hop and breakdance skills and moves. I believe that they were both exhausted after learning to spin on their heads! We look forward to seeing what they learn next.

A visit from Murrumburrah High

The school captains and accompanying  teachers paid a visit to the senior class at Binalong primary to hand out welcome invitations to prospective Year 7 students.

The staff and students provided a wonderful overview of the Harden high school and some of the differences between primary and high school.
Binalong students had a wonderful opportunity to ask questions of the high school staff and students.

The highlight for many students was learning about the school canteen, that is open 5 days a week!
This was a wonderful opportunity to normalise the high school transition for students and excite them for what is to come.
