From the Principal

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

School Bytes Portal

We are excited to announce our school is transitioning to an upgraded School Bytes Administration and Finance system.

What is the School Bytes portal?

School Bytes provides a parent portal to help your school communicate with you and complete administrative tasks.

Your school may use the parent portal for various things, including online permission notes, attendance, and payments, which can be accessed via a secure link. The School Bytes parent portal enables you to view all your children in one portal and process payments for multiple siblings in one transaction.

What do you need to do to be ready for 2023?

Parent Portal: Set up your parent portal account (if you don’t already have one).

Please note that Kiama High School currently already use this system so you may already have an account if you have students at the high school.

IMPORTANT: To ensure that the registration process works smoothly, and you can link your account to your child, make sure that you use the same email address that you have provided to the school or if using a different email address, an SMS verification code will be sent to the mobile number on record for you at the school.

How do I access School Bytes?

Open the parent portal link https://portal.schoolbytes.education/auth/login

Please also find detailed steps to create an account on the link below.

National Simultaneous Storytime

It was so exciting to see the Jamberoo Public School students and the Jamberoo Preschool students come together yesterday to participate in the National Simultaneous Storytime event. Thank you to Mrs Peade for successfully coordinating the event, a great time was had by all!

We look forward to hosting the Jamberoo Preschool students again next year to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime. The school is also very excited about the Kinder orientation sessions to be held next term and preschool visits in Term Four.

Athletics Coaching

Due to the kindness and generosity of the school’s P&C, yesterday the school kicked off the first session of athletics training for all of our students. Mr Ian Hatfield provided the Jamberoo athletes with sprint training, providing the students with key techniques to develop their running skills.

The athletics training sessions will continue on Wednesdays for the next three weeks, please find a timetable below:

Week 2 31st May - High jump

Week 3 7 th June - Long jump

Week 4 14th June - Shot put

It is a perfect lead in for all of our students to the athletics carnival which will be held on Wednesday 21st June.

Student Attendance

Over the past few weeks there have been quite a few students in the school who are regularly turning up late. School commences at 9am, it is vitally important that students are at school by that time to ensure their learning and the learning of others is not disrupted. It is understandable that on occasion students have appointments booked or occasionally run late due to unforseen circumstances. However, regular tardiness is not acceptable. Please ensure that your child is at school by 9am and that running late is a seldom event rather than a regular one.

Winter

Winter is fast approaching. Although we are getting some nice sunny and clear days the mornings and afternoons are quite cool. This means students are taking jumpers on and off and leaving them while they play. Please make sure names are on all items of clothing so they can be returned. A reminder that different coloured jumpers are not acceptable and are not a part of the school uniform.

Reports

Teachers are in the process of analysing student assessment data in preparation to commence the writing of student reports. Reports will be sent home to families on the last day of school, Friday 30th June. There will be no three-way conferences this term, as they were conducted in Term One. If you wish to speak to your child’s teacher about their progress, please don’t hesitate to contact them to make an appointment.

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)

The school is pleased to announce that Peak Sports and Learning has been selected to run the OSHC service at Jamberoo Public School. We expect that the provider will commence operations towards the second half of Term 2, 2023 depending on service approval.

Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey

Over the next few weeks, students in Years 4, 5 & 6 will participate in the Tell Them From Me Survey. The survey is designed by the Department of Education and is completed by thousands of students across the state. The data that is formulated by the survey is used to provide schools with vital information for future planning, strategic directions and to gain an insight into student learning and engagement.

Mr Chris Speirs

Principal's Award

Well done to Maggie Murray who last Friday was nominated for a Principal’s Award. Maggie always cares for others, putting the needs of younger students before her own. We all really appreciate your kindness and generosity, Maggie.

Athletics Coaching

It was fantastic to see the whole school participate in sprint training activities this week. Bring on high jump next week!

Super Spellers

I very much enjoyed spending time this week with both Kiara and Henry from Wonga Wonga who impressed me with their accurate and precise spelling. Keep up the awesome work Super Spellers!

National Simultaneous Read

Jamberoo students and preschool students coming together to participate in the National Simultaneous Read. A wonderful time was had by all. A big thank you to Mrs Peade for coordinating.

Isla Burke

Isla is thoroughly enjoying herself at the NSW PSSA Touch Football Knockout. The school and the Jamberoo community are extremely proud of Isla for everything she has achieved. We look forward to hearing about Isla's accomplishments at the State Knockout when she returns to school.

Incredible Investigators

It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with India and Amelia yesterday when they proudly showed off their completed maths investigation. I was blown away by the high quality of their end product and the level of originality and initiative demonstrated. Well done girls for your learning achievements.

Music Night

I am excited to announce that we will be holding our annual Music Night this term! Music Night is an evening event in the school hall where students can sign up, individually or in groups, to perform for the audience. Examples include: singing, dancing, jokes, a short play or playing a musical instrument. Students can talk to me if they have a different idea, to get it approved. Performances should be limited to 3 minutes or the length of a song. Short plays may be slightly longer.

Any songs students are singing and dancing to will need to be primary school appropriate. Parents and carers, please check that the lyrics are OK. Also, dancing costumes and dance movements need to be age-appropriate to a primary school audience. Any backing tracks that your child is singing or dancing to will need to be emailed to Ms Alpen (see below) or sent in with your child on a USB and given directly to her.

The timeline for music night is as follows:

Weeks 2-6 – students can sign up for Music Night with me when they see me out on playground duty. I will have my clipboard with me to write your name down. Students may be in up to two performances if they would like. Please email Ms Alpen at maddison.alpen@det.nsw.edu.au with your music. You could download music from iTunes or Spotify if you have an account. Ms Alpen has also generously offered that if you email her a Youtube link she can convert it into a mp3 file for your child’s backing track. Alternatively, you can send in your child’s music using a USB. Please make sure your child hands it directly to her and that it has your child’s name on it.

Obviously, some students will not need music backing tracks, depending on their act.

Week 6 -Thursday 1st June. Your music is due to Ms Alpen by this date. Parents will then not need to bring music for their child on the night as it will already be organised.

Week 7 -- Thursday 8th June. We will have a closed rehearsal at lunch time in my classroom for all performers. Students will just do the first minute or so of their act on this day in front of me and the other performers. If students are not organised with their act on this day, I will advise them that we will save their performance for next year. In other words, students must be prepared for this closed rehearsal in order to participate in Music Night.

Week 8 -- Thursday 15th June. Music Night will be held at 6 pm in the school hall. All are welcome! It usually goes for about 2 hours. Students are asked to bring their best manners and be a respectful audience. They will be expected to remain in their seats and not leave the hall. Parents and carers should be in attendance to supervise them.

Looking forward to it!

Mrs McCormack
