Kindergarten 2026 Information Session

On Wednesday afternoon Mrs Townsend and Mrs Colotours welcomed new parents into our school community with a very informative 2026 Kindergarten Information exploring the areas of school readiness, what to expect when students begin school and how parents can support their children in the lead up to our school.  Thank you to Mrs Townsend and Mrs Colotouros for your organisation.

Kindergarten enrolments are now open for 2026. Please visit ENROL Now at Rydalmere Public School.

Literacy Parent Workshops

Last Tuesday morning we held literacy workshops for K-2 and 3-6 parents. It was a good chance for parents to understand how to consolidate their child’s learning at home. The workshops covered the topics of how reading and writing is taught, and how it can be supported by parents. Thank you to Mrs Rana, Ms Taylor and Mrs Colotouros for organising these workshops. There will be more opportunities in the remainder of the year for parents to attend these workshops.

School Disco

Congratulations to all the students who came to the school disco on Tuesday. All students had a great time dancing away and enjoyed the planned activities in the school hall.  The behaviour at both the K-2 and 3-6 disco displayed by all students was exemplary. Thank you to all the teachers who stayed back after school to help with different aspects of the disco.

National Walk Safely to School Day

Despite the weather, it was great to see our students participate in National Walk Safely to School Day last Friday. There were two walking groups, one began at Rydalmere Fire Station and the other began at Rydalmere Ferry Wharf. Both groups enjoyed their short walks to school and finished at the Community Hub where they were provided with fresh fruit. Thank you to Woolworths Ermington for again supplying the snacks for our students. In the morning there was a whole school assembly with special visitors from Ryde Police station who spoke to all our students at an assembly to encourage safe practices when walking to and from school.

Thank you to Mrs Srinivasan and Miss Masmanidis for coordinating this event for our community.

K-2 Science Incursion

The recent "Wicked Weather" incursion was an exciting and memorable experience for our students! Over the course of 90 minutes, they eagerly dove into the fascinating world of weather and science through a variety of hands-on activities. Students were captivated as they watched simulations of rain formation and a tornado, sparking their curiosity about the forces of nature. They eagerly conducted tests to find out if the materials in their T-shirts and sunglasses effectively blocked UV radiation.

Netball Clinic for Years 3-6

Students in Years 3 to 6 are currently in the second week of a 4-week netball clinic, focusing on building key skills such as passing, footwork, positioning, and teamwork. These skills are essential for improving hand-eye coordination, balance, and decision-making on the court.

In these first two weeks, students have made great progress in refining their techniques, enhancing their fitness, and learning how to work effectively as a team. They’re also developing important social skills like communication and collaboration, making quick decisions under pressure.

By the end of the 4-week clinic, students will not only improve their netball abilities but also gain valuable skills that extend beyond the court, fostering teamwork, resilience, and perseverance. We look forward to their continued growth over the remaining weeks!

Preparing for the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition

The Multicultural Public Speaking Competition is just around the corner, and we are excited to see our students showcase their talents! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to express their thoughts and ideas on cultural diversity and inclusion. We encourage students to start preparing their speeches, focusing on clarity, structure, and engaging delivery. Parents can support their children by providing a space for practice and offering constructive feedback. Remember, practice makes perfect!

Reminders for 2026 High School Enrolment

As we move through this term, we would like to remind parents of important steps for the 2026 high school enrolment process:

  • School Review and Offers (April - August 2025): High schools will review expressions of interest based on preference and capacity. If a school is able to accommodate your child's preference, an offer will be made along with an enrolment application. Parents can track the status of their child's expression of interest online.
  • Enrolment Application (May - August 2025): Once an offer is made, it is important that parents submit the enrolment application to the high school within the specified timeframe. Online applications allow for easy uploading of supporting documents, ensuring a smooth process.

Please be sure to keep track of these timelines and stay on top of the enrolment process to ensure your child’s transition to high school is as seamless as possible.

General Guidelines

Public preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.  Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age before 31 July that year.

Priority is given to:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children
  • children living in low socio-economic circumstances
  • children who are unable to access other early childhood settings due to financial hardship

The Principal will then offer enrolment in the following order:

  • children living within the school's catchment area
  • children living outside the catchment area but have siblings at the school
  • other applicants

Community Hub News

Hello everyone,

This term has kicked off with a lot of activity.

On May 16th, our school and hub joined the National Walk Safely to School initiative. Even though it poured with rain, some families still walked with our staff and NSW Police representatives, Ms. Erika and Mr. Matthew, who joined us from the Rydalmere Wharf and Fire Station. Afterwards, they ran a fun and helpful road safety workshop for our students and parents. We’d also like to thank Ermington Woolworths (Ms. Marjan and Mr. Adam) for donating fruit for the kids to enjoy.

On May 19th, the hub celebrated Mother’s Day. We started with a Sound and Breath meditation led by Asami, which helped everyone relax and find a sense of calm. Then Vidhya shared some thoughts on healthy relationships, and we had some great conversations together. Thank you to everyone who joined in and brought delicious food to share!

On Wednesday, May 21st, our Playgroup took part in National Simultaneous Storytime at Ermington Library.

The hub is looking for ideas for a ladies’ sports program. Do you have a sport you’d like to try or learn? Please let Seetha know!
