It is hard to believe we are nearing the end week 4 already. Time is moving quickly, and we are seeing students settling into class routines and many starting some of their bigger projects and units of work.
Swimming week is fast approaching, and we thank you all for returning your paperwork in preparation for this exciting week at school. Fingers crossed the weather stays warm for that week. Just a reminder to start naming all clothing – including school shirts and shorts, as uniform is easily mixed up in the hustle and bustle of swimming week. Naming items makes it much easier to reunite lost items of clothing with their owners.
The work on the cricket pitch is almost complete, with the bunting down, and students able to play on the surface. In the coming weeks, artificial turf will be laid around the outside of the pitch finalising this work. We would like to thank the South Australian Cricket Association for their grant that enabled this upgrade.
The Governing Council Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday February 27, at 7pm in the staff room. All are welcome to attend. If you are interested in joining our Governing Council, please see the information sent out on Audiri at the end of last week. The post has a link where you can register your attendance and nominate to join the council.
We are again participating in the RAA street smart program across the school over the next few weeks. Students from all classes will have the opportunity to participate in a session on road safety with staff from RAA. Sessions begin on Friday and will continue into next week. I hope the students will have the opportunity to share with you some of the things they learn in the sessions.
You will notice in the dates to remember that we have posted our Pupil Free Days and School Closure Day for the 2024 school year. These dates have been discussed and approved by our school governing council and also approved by our education director. OSHC will be available on the Pupil Free Days, and on these days, staff will be undertaking professional development. We thank you for your support.
Finally, thanks to all of the parents, grandparents and family members who have said hello to Kym and myself at the crossing and in the yard over the last few weeks. Dernancourt School really is a great place to be.
