Year 4 Camp

Last week, our Year 4 students went on a camp to Narrabeen. Although the weather was not perfect, the students had a great time. Thank you to Mrs Wood, Mr Newcombe, Miss Lee, Miss Russell and Mrs Riddell for supporting this great opportunity for our students.

Year 6 Camp

Two weeks ago, our Year 6 students visited Canberra for three days. During this excursion, a number of students got to meet with the Governor General, Samantha Mostyn. At many of the venues that they visited, the teachers received compliments for the students outstanding behaviour. A big thank you to Miss Ward, Mrs Lorenz, Miss Charalabidis, Mr Mckinnon and Mr Freney for providing the students with this amazing experience.

SASS (School Administrative and Support Staff) Recognition Week

Next week is SASS recognition week. At Winston Hills Public School, we are very lucky to have an outstanding group of people who make up our SASS team. They are an important part of the school community and help make the school a great place to come to every day.

Zone Athletics

Yesterday, our school’s athletics team competed against 18 other schools at the Castle Hill PSSA Zone Carnival. Our students did an amazing job and ended up winning the carnival for the second year in a row. As a principal, I was proud to see the effort and sportsmanship that was displayed by every one of our students. Thank you to the parents and grandparents that attended to support our team. The details of the results will be sent out to schools over the coming days.

Rotary Writing Competition

Yesterday, our school was awarded third place in the Year 6 Rotary Writing Competition. Congratulations to Ella, Imogen and Gurman for their submissions. Ella was awarded 3rd place individually.

Winter PSSA

Unfortunately, the end of the Winter PSSA competition was impacted by wet weather.  Congratulations to our Jnr B Netball, Jnr AFL, Snr Soccer, Snr League and Jnr League for winning their competitions I would like to give a big thank you to our PSSA coaches who give up their time to train and prepare the teams.

I would also like to thank all of the parents and grandparents who attend the games to support our students.

Hills Performing Arts Festival

This Thursday night, we have a number of students performing at the Hills Performing Arts Festival. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers who are organising our dance groups and the choir for the night. I would like to give a special mention to Miss Russell, who is the coordinator of this great night.

Father’s Day Breakfast

Next Friday, the school will be holding its annual Father’s Day Breakfast. This is a great opportunity for our school community to get together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who will be busy cooking from the early hours of the morning.

From the Deputies

Congratulations Year 6 and Year 4

We are extremely proud of our Year 6 and Year 4 students who have attended camps over the last two weeks. Their representation of Winston Hills Public School was outstanding and we received many compliments from camp organisers and the general public acknowledging this. Thank you to the teachers who organised and gave up their time to make these camps happen.

Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 Check-in Assessments (Re-post)

The Check-in Assessment is an annual assessment for students in Years 3 to 9 in NSW Public Schools. Year 6 also undertake an additional writing assessment. There are 2 tests (literacy & numeracy), each approximately 50 questions. These assessments support the identification of students’ performance in literacy and numeracy and inform next steps in teaching and learning. Years 3,4, 5 & 6 will be completing these assessments in Weeks 6-10 of this term.

Morning Supervision

There are a number of students who are arriving to school well before the 8:30am bell. We understand that occasionally there may be no other option but to drop your child/children before the bell. Unfortunately, there is no teacher supervision before 8:30am and for the safety of your children, we kindly ask if they can come to school after the 8:30am bell. Students are reminded to sit on the silver seats on Area A and wait until the supervising teacher sends them to play.

Groups Photo day

Our school’s Group Photo day will be on Thursday 11 September, 2025.

The school photographers will be taking group photos such as dance, choir, band, school leaders, PSSA groups and the Year 6 grade photo. All students are asked to wear their sports uniform. Information regarding this will be sent home later this week.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Book parade at Winston Hills was a huge success this year!

From the Chaplain

Dear School Community,

As we pass the halfway point of Term 3, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible efforts and positive spirit we’ve seen throughout our school. Whether it’s in the classroom, the playground, or during school events, it’s clear that our students are growing not only in knowledge but also in empathy, resilience, and confidence. This term, we’ve had some wonderful conversations during wellbeing check-ins about managing stress, staying positive, and setting personal goals. It’s been inspiring to see students becoming more aware of their feelings and learning how to support both themselves and each other. A thought for the Week: "You don’t have to do big things to make a big difference. "Every small step counts". Let’s continue reminding our young people that their actions, words, and attitudes matter every day. As always, my door is open. If you or your child would like someone to talk to, are seeking emotional, mental, or spiritual support, or simply need a quiet space to reflect, I am here. I can be reached at Dawn.Tan2@det.nsw.edu.au and am available for chats on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Let’s continue walking together with kindness, compassion, and hope as we support one another through the rest of the term.

Warm regards,

Dawn Tan

Our next event for Performance Band is coming up soon at the Hills Performing Arts Festival on Thursday 28th August. The band have been working hard to perfect their pieces, including The Man from Snowy River and Wombat Shuffle.

Reminders to Performance Band parents ahead of this event: · Please contact us at bandwhps@gmail.com to advise if your child is sick and will not be attending.

· Children should wear a black T-shirt, long black pants, black socks and black shoes. Children will be given the band polo shirt to wear over the top of their T-shirt. It is a good idea to bring a jacket to wear backstage.

· Don’t forget your instrument and music. Your child may also wish to bring a snack, water bottle, and something quiet to do backstage (e.g. book, small non-electronic game).

· Make sure your child has eaten dinner before arrival at the theatre.

· Please arrive on time at 6pm at the Evan Theatre Penrith located in Penrith Panthers Rugby League Club. Meet your child’s teacher in the foyer. The children will then be taken to a waiting area, where no parents are permitted.

· The performance time is 7pm.

· The event finishes at 9pm. You will not be able to collect your children until the end of the event. Students will assemble for collection at a designated area for our school. Please make sure you have marked off your child’s name before leaving.
